Sing a Silent Song
“’I am silent, father. I want to sing a song to you while I am silent.’
“’Sing it. I am mind.’
“’I understand mind, Hermes. You cannot be known, since you stay in yourself. I am happy, father. I see you laughing. The universe is happy. No creature will lack your life, for you are the lord of the inhabitants everywhere. Your forethought keeps watch. I call you father, eternal realm of eternal realms, great divine spirit, who through spirit sends moisture on everyone. What do you tell me, father Hermes?’
“’Child, I say nothing about this. It is right before God for us to be silent about what is hidden.’

How can anyone sing a silent song? As Hermes indicates, you sing it in your mind. We all do sing silent songs. We hear an old favorite on the radio and we mentally sing it for hours after. Or sometimes a song just pops into our head and we can’t help mentally singing it for a while. And there are times when this is the best way to sing a song.
First, we have to notice that Hermes’ definition of a song seems to be somewhat more general than that of most people today. It seems that chanting, humming, or even talking mentally would qualify as a silent song to him. And that is probably as it should be.
Sometimes, we find it difficult to find the time to practice spiritual techniques, affirmations, meditations, prayers, and so on. But if we can do it silently, that makes it much easier. When we are on a train, bus, or car heading for work, we can sing the song in our mind as we go. If we are practicing sun gazing, but other people get too close, we can chant a silent song rather than verbalizing it.

Ultraviolet light has a long history as a disinfectant and the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, is readily rendered harmless by UV light. The question is how best to harness UV light to fight the spread of the virus and protect human health as people work, study, and shop indoors.

Three Levels of Humans
“All human beings from birth onward live to the realm of sense more than to the intellectual. Forced of necessity to attend first to the material, some of them elect to abide by that order and, their life through it, make its concerns their first and their last; the sweet and the bitter of sense are their good and evil; they feel they have done all if they live along pursuing the one and barring the doors to the other. …
“Others do indeed lift themselves a little above the earth; the better in their soul urges them from the pleasant to the nobler, but they are not of power to see the highest, and so .. they fall back upon the actions and options of the lower.
“But there is a third order—those godlike men who, in their mightier power. In the keenness of their sight, have clear vision of the splendor above and rise to it from among the cloud and for of earth and hold firmly to that other world, looking beyond all here, delighted in the place of reality, their native land, like a man returning after long wanderings to the pleasant ways of his own country.” ~Plotinus
It isn’t clear from what Plotinus says, but I believe he is saying that humanity exists at three levels: material, mental or intellectual, and spiritual. None of these levels are completely separate from the others, and we all have some of each within us. It is just a matter of what we choose to develop and emphasize and what we choose to ignore.

The Fourteenth Saying (Part 5)
“‘Moses, Mohammed, Buddha, Confucius, Lao Tsu, Zoroaster, Jesus, and other holy teachers founded religions that were incomplete. Each of these religious founders spoke of a coming religion, or a coming Golden Age, in which the cosmos would be consumed by the fire of a redeeming Sun which would burn away all the impurities of earth and restore God’s rule to humankind directly from the Worlds of Light. Therefore, God will rule this world, not as a material world, but as a World of Light. We, in representing the first Community of Ministers, must live and exemplify this Teaching of Light to inspire other men and women of the world to live and exemplify that Light with us. Therefore, we are representative of a New Religion that is destined to inspire people everywhere.
“‘The Teaching, which has come through Jamil and is being animated by the Light of the Sun of Righteousness, has come to amend the older teachings and fulfill them. Though we do acknowledge Christianity and Jesus and the Apostles, we do not stress the sacrifice of blood and atonement for the payment of Man’s sins. We teach the Light of Jesus Christ; this teaches men and women to come out of Christianity, pick up the cross that was laid down by Jesus and his immediate Apostles, and go forward in the fulfilled teachings. God has come to bless the community of Man and to nurture a special Order of men and women who can exemplify that Teaching of Christ and take it to the world as a Holy Order.
“‘Our Community is pledged to instruct Man in the means by which he may evolve into a new species of supernatural Man. Man has use of his free will to decide whether he wants to do this or not; he must elect which of the two spirits he will live under.
“‘The transformation of Man and his world will not be accomplished by dreams, or theories, or beliefs. A man dying of hunger cannot be nurtured on dreams; he needs food and drink. It is the same for the Man of Light; he requires Light as nourishment. The Living Waters of God’s Messianic Sun and the Bread of His Word are food for supernatural Man. The Sons and Daughters of God can achieve all manner of things in the universe, with the consent of God, when all the family of Man is of one mind.
“‘Our religion is highly advanced. It teaches Man how to evolve and grow closer to God, to commune with Him and to break the silence of God. God is not to be worshiped as He is worshiped in older religions. God is neither vengeful nor wrathful. He does not punish Man for disobedience. Man punishes himself because he breaks the supernatural laws of the cosmos. Man suffers because of his ignorance of God and His laws. Ignorance is the only sin for which Man must atone.’”

“There is a visible substance and an invisible one; a tangible water and one that is beyond the reach of perception by the physical senses; a visible fire and an invisible magic fire; neither can either of these accomplish anything without the other, for in the practice of Alchemy, as in the regeneration of man, that which is above must be made to penetrate that which is below, so that the lower may enter into a higher state of existence.
“If we wish to know nature we must learn to know God, and God cannot be known without a knowledge of one’s own divine self. The spiritual substance of which external visible nature is an imperfect expression and manifestation, has been called ‘Prima Materia‘; it is the material for the formation of a new heaven and a new earth. It is like ‘water,’ or a ‘crystaline ocean,’ if compared with our grossly material earth, it is at once fire, water, air, and earth, corporeal in its essence, and nevertheless, incorporeal relatively to our physical forms.” ~Franz Hartmann
What Hartmann is describing here is what we simply call matter. liquids, gas, and solids, they are all forms of matter. When the ancients said that everything was made of air, water, fire, and earth, they were saying the same thing. Air equates to gasses, fire to energy, earth to solids, and water to liquids. Fire or energy is different as it is not considered to be matter, yet it is closely related as we know that some forms of matter can be converted into energy, and some energy can be made into matter.
Hartmann says that there is an invisible substance as well as the visible, and the same for water, fire, and so on. What he is saying here is that for everything physical, there is a spiritual counterpart. For every rock, there is a spiritual rock, for every tree, there is a spiritual tree, for every star, there is a spiritual one. The simple fact that a thing exists in physical form means it has a spiritual counterpart, it cannot exist without it. You can think of the spirit as being the mold for the physical, the force that holds it all together. And the spirit is immortal, while the physical form is not. Matter may not be destructible, but the individual forms are.
