New Film “Eat the Sun” Screened by the Community

A special screening of Peter Sorcher’s feature-length documentary film Eat the Sun took place at the Rectory-Abbey for Community members on Sunday January 3, 2010. Mr. Sorcher and his film crew visited the Sanctuary a few years ago and conducted interviews with several Community members over a period of a few days as well as filmed parts of the Divine Service at the Cathedral Church of the Americas. The institution of The Church is included in the film, which also contains interviews with the late Bishop Savoy. Huge bags of homemade popcorn were provided for the event, courtesy of the Rev. Deacon Robert Anderson. For more info on this film, go to www.sorcherfilms.com or www.eatthesunmovie.com.

Rite of Anointing for Richard J. Aune

On Wednesday October 7, 2009, the Reverend Deacon Robert Anderson performed the sacrament of anointing and last rites on his former partner of twenty years, Richard Aune, who lay dying of colon cancer. The Right Reverend Sean Savoy instructed and prepared Anderson in Reno for the performing of the rite. The anointing was done at Aune’s home in Palm Springs, California, with his daughter and son-in-law attending. Aune was not conscious for the ceremony but had earlier given Anderson permission to do the rite. Aune’s daughter and son-in-law received comfort from witnessing the rite. Aune passed into the Light less than two days later in the presence of Anderson and Aune’s daughter and son-in-law.
