“In the temples dedicated to many different gods, the forms of worship were subtly changed to serve another end. The servants of the Dark Ones were able to display wonders before the multitude, but these wonders were works of deceit. It is well that the ears of the dumb gods were unhearing, or they would have been deafened by the clamor of pleas for petty things. The servants of the Dark Ones left not even the dead to rest in peace, but sought to satisfy the living with words from beyond the tomb. Even the blood of men was offered in dark places, while in others of greater evil, men, yes, and even children, were tormented to give pleasure. Such is the nature of men when the scales weigh down against righteousness.”

Temples of Many Gods

Ancient Egypt had many temples devoted to various gods. While not the True God, most of these god were at least on the right side and worshiping them may have benefited the people who were not ready for a real spiritual awakening.

Worship Changed

In the time when Darkness came to Egypt, the practices in these temples were gradually changed by the Dark Forces and Beings so that they served the Dark ones, especially the Demiurge who created the realm of matter. Some of these Dark Ones claimed to know the ancient Mysteries, but the mysteries they taught were false ones aimed at making people more materialistic.

Carnal Cravings

The Dark Ones encourage carnal cravings. Prejudices and fears of many sorts were also introduced, and people were encouraged to act on their fears and prejudices, often violently. The people were promised that such behavior would be forgiven, much as some churches and religions today forgive those who participate in wars, book banning, and other forms of controlling others.

Clamor of Pleas

This is something that is still practiced by many today. They pray for a new house, a new car, a new job, or other material things without realizing that by doing so, they are praying to and empowering the Demiurge and his demonic minions. The proper way to pray to the True God is to say “Thy will be done, in me and through me.” We are not smarter than God, so we need to let Him made the decisions. We need to learn what God’s Great Plan is for saving the earth from Darkness, and do what we can to help make it happen. God could do it all by Himself, but he wants us to participate as he created us to be co-creators along with Him. If you are hired by a construction company to help build a building, you have to follow the architect’s plan, not your own. It is the same with God’s Plan for bringing a new Golden Age of Spirit to our world.

Blood Was Offered

One of the most evil things that the Dark Ones introduced was blood sacrifice. As the quote says, the blood of men (and women) was offered in evil ceremonies. Even torture of adults and children was used to satisfy the evil cravings of the Dark Ones. We must all learn that the True God has never asked for blood sacrifice, for torture, or for anyone to be killed on His behalf. Only the Demiurge asks for such things.

“Men may ask, in days yet to dawn, how it came about that the flame of glory died in Egypt, how her grandeur passed away into dust. How, when man had climbed so high, he could climb no longer. But there is no simple cause, the seeds of degeneration lie dormant in every nation, in every man. As the man, so the nation. These seeds are as weeds, which spring up when the cultivated soil is neglected, when it is tended with indifference. The road to greatness is, for nations as for each man, a hard and stony one. Greatness is a gift requiring constant effort to retain; when men decline the effort, greatness departs. Greatness and glory will abide only in the habitations of the worthy. They depart when no longer treated as honored guests. What are Justice and Truth today? They are no more than words mumbled by the lips, but once, they were an inextinguishable flame burning within the hearts of men. What is left of honor when men cease to regard it as more than an empty symbol? It is like the lyre in the hands of a man with blistered fingers, or as the flute played by one with scabby lips. The instruments remain, but where are the musicians? Without the musicians, where are the melodies?”

The Flame of Glory

What is called “The Flame of Glory” in the quote from the Kolbrin Bible is just another way of saying Spiritual Light. We must remember that until only a little over a century ago, Light and fire were considered the same thing, as the only way to get light was with fires and torches. The highly developed spiritual people knew that Spiritual Light was something very different from the flames of a torch, but few others did.

The quote says men “had climbed so high, he could climb no longer.” That is only true of those who joined the Mystery Schools of the day and developed their spiritual Self to its full potential. But there were many people, probably the majority, who made no such effort, and it is through those people that the forces of darkness often work to bring down the spiritual.

Seeds of Degeneration

It is true that the seeds of degeneration are in all of us and can come out when we least expect it. Even people who are well along in their spiritual development can fall victim to the demons that whisper in their ears. That is why it is now—and always has been—important to be part of a spiritual community rather than trying to go it alone. As part of a community, we can help each other and protect each other from the beings of darkness. Also, as the quote says, this degeneration can happen when we neglect “the cultivated soil”. In other words, when we don’t practice our spiritual development techniques with regularity.

Justice and Truth

The quote says that Justice and Truth became empty words, and honor is an empty symbol. Certainly, many can quote a dictionary definition of those words, but they don’t really understand them. And this is as much a problem today as it was in the time that “The Flame of Glory” died in Egypt. Many think that if the majority believes something, it makes it true, but that is rarely the case. Likewise, many think that because we have lawyers and judges that we have justice, but that is also seldom true. We even refer to the justices of the Supreme Court in The United States as liberal or conservative. To do so says that they are making decisions based on political views rather than on what is right, so they are not practicing Justice. Fortunately, we are now at the beginning of an age when all of that can change, and the Flame of Glory will rule mankind again. We can all hope that happens soon, and do what we can to help.

“Be ever above price. One worthy of the greatness you reflect on Earth, one ever above mundane things. Be as the sun, whose brightness seeks out every nook and cranny and pours light into their hidden gloom. Be one who shines among men to lighten their days. Spread uprightness and honesty

across the two lands, as the sunshine spreads brightness and warmth. Cover the land with goodness, as the rising waters cover it with fertility. Fill the land with strength, as the north wind fills it with contentment.

Be vigilant concerning every deed, for the eyes of men are ever upon you, the life you live is not yours alone. You are the image, which men will imitate, and you are before every eye. The blowing wind will open its ear at your windows and spread wide its report. The flowing waters beside your door will uncover their eyes and carry what they behold through the land. Your position makes

you a supporting pillar of the government; if the pillars be rotten, the roof crashes. Your responsibilities will beset your life with care; the road you journey is stony and encompassed with pitfalls and thorns. The cup you drink will be more often bitter than sweet.”

Worthy of Greatness

The greatness this quote is dealing with is not political or business greatness, but spiritual greatness. As we awaken spiritually and develop our spiritual faculties, we are obligated to help others do the same in various ways. One way is simply by reflecting some of that Spiritual Greatness, or Light. We do that in two ways. In a more general way, we send some of our light out into the world filled with thoughts of peace, joy, love, and other positive attributes. The second way is to send such Light to specific individuals who request it, or who we know need such help. As the quote says, be like the sun sending out Light into every nook and cranny.

Above Mundane Things

The spiritual student must be above mundane things in order to develop spiritually to any significant degree. That doesn’t mean that we must dress in rags and live in a cave. We can have a reasonable amount of material goods, such as a proper house and clothes, as long as we don’t get so attached to those things that we start putting them ahead of our spiritual development. Cosolargy teaches that we must put God’s requirements above all other things, and that means putting the spiritual before the material.

Cover the Land With Goodness

Almost everyone agrees that we should do good all the time. The problem is that many can’t tell the good from the neutral, or even evil deeds. The worse example of this is that many have been tricked by the Dark Beings into believing that wars are sometimes a good thing. There are time when a country must go to war to protect its people and territory, but even then, war is not good, only necessary. True goodness means showing kindness, empathy, and generosity to others. It also means that we should try to do work that does not harm people. For example, a spiritual person should not be working in a cigarette factory.

Guard Your Heart

As most of us know by now, when the ancient writings talk about the heart, they really mean the Soul, as the heart is often considered to be the location of the Soul. We can guard the heart by wearing our sacred thread with the gems or stones on it that have been programmed to protect us against dark forces and beings. We can also protect our souls by asking for the aid of God. And we can protect it by being part of a community of like-minded individuals, as we are in Cosolargy. While in this time, we may not be supporting pillars of the government, we are supporting pillars of God’s Truth and Wisdom. And the prophecies of the Community tell us that a time will come when leaders will consult us as did the great leaders of long ago consult the Mystery Schools of the time.
