Frozen Light and the Sun Cross: Science Meets Symbolism

Introduction

The phenomenon of “frozen light” – literally stopping or slowing photons – sounds like science fiction, yet modern experiments have achieved just that. Intriguingly, recent visualizations of this breakthrough (such as a golden, cross- shaped burst of light) bear a striking resemblance to the ancient Sun Cross, a symbol found in sun-worshiping cultures across the world.

This investigation explores the visual parallels between cutting-edge photonics and prehistoric symbolism, examining how a cross of light in the lab mirrors the Sun Cross motif in spiritual traditions. We compare their visual forms, delve into their symbolic meanings, and consider cultural interpretations – bridging modern science and ancient spirituality.

Frozen Light in Modern Science

Featured image: A scientific visualization of “frozen light,” showing a golden, cross-shaped burst of light in a laboratory setting (a recent experiment achieved a supersolid state of light, essentially freezing photons in place hindustantimes.com). The light forms a radiant cross or star-like shape, with bright beams extending along perpendicular axes. In physics, “frozen light refers to the ability to stop or slow down a beam of light dramatically, effectively holding it in place. This was first demonstrated in 1999 when Lene Hau and her team slowed a light beam to 38 mph using an ultra-cold atom cloud, and by 2001 they even brought light to a complete halt and restarted it.

More recently, in 2025, Italian researchers “froze” light in a new way: by creating a supersolid form of light. In this state, photons behave like a solid crystal while still flowing without friction, combining properties of solid and liquid states. As one report describes, scientists “successfully ‘frozen’ light, demonstrating that it can behave as a supersolid,” a milestone in quantum physics. Visually, how does one imagine stopped light? In lab experiments, the trapped light might be confined in special materials or Bose-Einstein condensates, often invisible to the naked eye. To communicate the concept, scientists and artists use striking imagery: for example, the golden starburst symbolically represents light held in suspension. The image shows a brilliant central glow with cross-shaped rays emanating outward, almost like a small sun captured in a lattice. This cross-like pattern is not accidental – it conveys the idea of light’s wave spreading in orthogonal directions, and it evokes the symmetry of the underlying physics (the light’s standing wave or interference pattern can form orthogonal nodes). Thus, the scientific visualization of frozen light ends up looking like a radiant cross of energy – a shape deeply familiar in spiritual iconography.

From a symbolic standpoint, the achievement of frozen light blurs the line between energy and matter. It is as if modern science has managed to “capture a piece of the sun” in a controlled setting. Photons, normally racing at 300,000 km/s, can be parked momentarily – an almost metaphysical feat that challenges our notions of the immutable speed of light. Some commentators note that this ability to hold light still “marks a significant milestone” in understanding nature.

Metaphorically, one could say that by freezing light, we hold time or illumination in our hands – themes that resonate with the timeless quest for knowledge (light has long symbolized enlightenment). It’s fascinating then that the chosen visual representation is a cross of light – almost suggesting a union of scientific and spiritual imagery. To the scientific mind, the cross-shape simply illustrates two perpendicular light waves or the crystallographic axes of a photonic lattice. But to the cultural eye, a shining cross of light immediately brings to mind ancient symbols of the sun and stars, hinting that perhaps our intuition for symbol-making runs deeper than we think.

The Ancient Sun Cross Symbol

Figure 2: A traditional Sun Cross symbol (a simple equilateral cross within a circle).

This solar emblem dates back to the Neolithic and Bronze Age, appearing in prehistoric rock art and artifacts. The four arms point to the cardinal directions or the solstice/equinox points, and
the encompassing circle represents the sun or the cycle of the year. Long before modern science, ancient peoples “captured” the sun in a different way: through symbols. One of the oldest and most widespread is the Sun Cross (also known as the solar cross or wheel cross), which consists of an equilateral cross inside a circle. Visually, it’s a very straightforward design – a plus-shaped cross (+) imposed on a circle – yet it carried profound meaning. This emblem appears in cultures across Europe, Asia, and even the Americas, often in the context of sun cults or sky worship. In European prehistory (Neolithic to Bronze Age), the sun cross was carved into rock surfaces and molded into jewelry or ritual objects, signifying solar deities and cosmic order. For instance, in Bronze Age Scandinavia, the sun cross frequently appears in petroglyphs: a famous example is the rock carving at Madsebakke (Bornholm, Denmark), which shows a large circle with a cross and surrounding dots (cup marks) believed to represent offerings or stars. This carving – essentially a sun wheel – is interpreted as a solar symbol representing the movement of the sun or the cycle of seasons. In other words, the four arms of the cross could indicate the two solstices and two equinoxes, while the circle is the annual orbit of the sun through the sky (the year). Many other sites in Sweden and Norway reveal similar wheel cross-carvings, underscoring how universal this image was in Nordic sun worship.

Beyond Europe, variations of the sun cross appear in numerous traditions. In ancient Egypt, a very similar shape (☉ with a cross) was used not for the sun god directly (the usual sun symbol was a disk with rays or the scarab), but interestingly as the hieroglyph for a “village” or “town”. Some speculate this could represent a fortified settlement (crossroads within a circular wall), yet it’s intriguing that the sign for a human community is the same as the universal symbol for the sun – perhaps reflecting the idea of the sun as the center of the community’s life. In pre-Christian Europe, the sun cross persisted into Iron Age and Roman times as a sacred sign. It’s found on Celtic and Germanic artifacts, sometimes called Odin’s Cross in Norse contexts. In Norse mythology, the sun (Sol) was envisioned as riding a chariot across the sky (the famous Trundholm Sun Chariot artifact features a sun disc that may have a cross-like pattern). Indeed, 19th-century scholars noted that the Sun Cross can be seen as the wheel of the sun’s chariot. In many languages, the sun was poetically described as a wheel. This carries over to the Celtic Cross of early medieval Ireland and Britain: many of those ornate stone crosses have a circle around the intersection, a design likely inspired by the older pagan sun-wheel motif. It’s said that Saint Patrick and other missionaries adopted the sun circle into the Christian cross to help convert sun worshippers – effectively merging the symbols of the Sun and the Son. Whether apocryphal or not, the Celtic cross certainly looks like a Christianized sun cross, symbolizing Christ’s cross united with the circle of eternity or the sun (the sustainer of life).

In early Christian and Byzantine art, the halo or nimbus behind holy figures is a circular light that sometimes bears a cross within – essentially a sun cross halo. A prime example is the Coptic Cross used by Egyptian Christians, which often has four equal arms and is sometimes enclosed by a circle or expanded with loops, reminiscent of the sun cross (the Coptic tradition being an Egyptian continuation of early Christian symbolism). Thus, even in explicitly Christian contexts, the visual of a cross radiating within a circle persisted, linking the divine light of the heavens with the Cross of Christ.

The Sun Cross’s meaning in ancient cultures almost always ties to solar concepts: life, light, and the passage of time. The sun was the giver of life and warmth; its yearly cycle determined seasons and harvests. By inscribing a cross (possibly representing the four seasons or cardinal directions) into a circle (the solar disk or yearly cycle), ancient people created a cosmic diagram of the world. Many scholars interpret the sun cross as a cosmogram – a depiction of the universe with the sun at the center. It also became associated with wheel imagery (hence “sun wheel”), signifying the turning of time. Notably, the same circled cross symbol was later used by astronomers as the sign for planet Earth (🜨), perhaps because Earth from a cosmic view is the “world” defined by the four directions and the encompassing circle of the horizon. In alchemical and occult symbolism, the sun cross (as the Earth symbol) can represent the fusion of spirit (circle) and matter (cross). Unfortunately, in recent history, variants of the sun cross were misappropriated by Nazi and extremist groups– but these distortions are a far cry from the symbol’s original sacred context as a benign emblem of the sun and life.

Visual Parallels Between Frozen Light and the Sun Cross

At first glance, it might seem coincidental that a lab photo of “frozen” light forms a cross, and that an ancient sun symbol is also a cross. But the visual parallel is compelling: a brilliant cross of radiance in both instances. The scientific image shows what looks like a luminous cross or star, with a bright core and four elongated rays. This immediately calls to mind a shining sunburst or the Star of Bethlehem iconography – essentially a cross-shaped star. Likewise, the Sun Cross is often drawn with rays or flames around it in artistic depictions, emphasizing that it represents a star (the Sun) shining in all directions. Many Bronze Age rock carvings of sun crosses actually include additional radial spokes or surround the cross with dots of light (as in Madsebakke), suggesting a glowing appearance. So, in a sense, both the modern image and the ancient symbol portray light radiating in a balanced, cross-like pattern. Why a cross shape specifically? In the case of the frozen light experiment, the cross form can be related to the physics: the light may have been arranged in standing wave patterns along two perpendicular axes, creating an interference pattern with four lobes. When photons in a cavity form a supersolid, they might organize into a grid – the simplest grid is two-dimensional, with vertical and horizontal symmetry. The result, when made visible, could look like a cross or lattice of light. Another down-to-earth reason is that cameras capturing a very bright point source often produce lens flares in a cross shape (due to the aperture blades), so an intense burst will naturally appear as a star/cross. In other words, when you “freeze” a bright light, you get a cross – literally as an optical artifact. In the case of the Sun Cross symbol, the cross within the circle also has a practical geometric origin: it’s an easy way to divide a circle into four equal parts (a very common act in ancient astronomy for marking solstices, directions, etc.). But humans could have chosen any number of divisions – the fact that fourfold symmetry became dominant (instead of, say, a three- or five-rayed sun) suggests that the cross shape had special significance, likely tied to the observable cycles of nature (four seasons, four cardinal directions). Four is the structural skeleton of the solar year and the terrestrial space, so the cross naturally imposed itself on the circle of the sun. Visually, both images convey a sense of balance and symmetry. The frozen light’s cross is symmetric across vertical and horizontal axes; the Sun Cross is, by definition, perfectly symmetric as well. This symmetry denotes stability – an interesting common theme. The lab-created frozen light is a stable, stationary configuration of light (very unlike normal light which is always moving). The Sun Cross in spiritual art often symbolizes the stable order of the cosmos (the regulated path of the sun through the four seasons, the orderly structure of creation under the sun). Both the modern cross of light and the ancient sun cross give an impression of stillness in the midst of motion: frozen light is dynamic photons held static; the sun cross is the spinning sun “wheel” halted into a fixed emblem. This paradox – motion turned into still form – is exactly what the sun cross did for ancient people (turning the moving sun into a fixed sign) and what scientists have done with light (trapping a moving light wave into a fixed pattern). In a way, the human desire to freeze the motion of the heavens connects the Bronze Age shaman and the quantum physicist. The shaman carved a sun wheel to symbolically capture the sun’s power; the physicist freezes a beam of light to physically capture the sun’s essence (photons). Both ended up with a cross geometry as the solution.

Symbolic and Cultural Connections

Beyond the visuals, the symbolism surrounding frozen light and the Sun Cross also resonate with each other. Light, especially sunlight, has always been a powerful symbol of divine energy, knowledge, and life. In spiritual traditions, “God is light” and in science, light is the primal energy (the speed limit of the universe, the stuff of which matter can be made via E=mc²). The act of freezing light – holding a ray of sun still – almost sounds like a mythic story of stealing fire from the gods or capturing sunlight in a bottle. Culturally, one could compare it to rituals in sun cults where priests “held” the sun (for example, at solstice ceremonies, attempting to symbolically pause the sun’s course). Today’s scientists don’t claim any mystical intent, of course, but the achievement has inspired almost poetic descriptions in the media. Articles described how this could “revolutionize future applications in quantum computing and optical technologies”, but also implicitly marvel at how we have tamed one of nature’s constants. The cross shape of the frozen light image can symbolically imply the intersection of two realms: light as a wave and light as a solid, or crossing the boundary between the intangible and tangible. In many cultures, the crossroads is where worlds meet– interestingly, here, the cross of light is where energy and matter meet, where wave and particle meet.

In ancient symbolism, the Sun Cross likewise stands at the intersection of the spiritual and the material. The circle often represents the heavens, the sun, or the wholeness of spirit, while the cross (the fourfold division) represents the material world (four elements, four directions, four seasons). Their combination in one glyph can mean the unity of heaven and earth – the sun embodied in the world. In esoteric Christian mysticism, this idea appears in the concept of the Solar Logos. The Solar Logos is essentially the cosmic Christ spirit, often associated with the spiritual sun. As one Gnostic text puts it, “Christ is the Solar Logos,” an eternal divine force, the Word or light of God manifested. This is a profound fusion of the symbol of the Sun (source of light) with the Cross of Christ. In Christian art, this is why Christ is sometimes depicted with a cross in or behind the sun, or with a radiant cross of light at the Transfiguration. The images provided (e.g. a graphic with the phrase “Christ is the Solar Logos & the Hidden Sun”) highlight this fusion: Christ seen as a hidden spiritual sun whose symbol is a cross of light. Early Christians, especially in the Celtic and Coptic regions, could thus reinterpret the pagan sun cross as a representation of Christ – the Light of the world – with the circle as his halo and the cross as his sacrifice. The Hidden Sun concept implies a spiritual sun behind the physical sun, much like frozen light might be seen as hidden light – light that’s present but not moving or shining normally. It’s fascinating that in both domains, we encounter the idea of capturing the essence of light: the scientist does so in a chamber, and the mystic does so in a symbol or in the person of Christ. Another cultural parallel is the notion of control over light. In science, gaining control over light (slowing, storing, and structuring it) is a leap forward for technology – enabling quantum computing, advanced communications, etc. In ancient ritual, gaining control over the sun (even symbolically) was a sign of divine favor or magical power. Kings and priests claimed authority by aligning themselves with the sun’s cycles – for instance, monuments like Stonehenge or Egyptian temples were solar calendars that “controlled” when the sun would rise at specific points. The Sun Cross symbol, worn as an amulet or painted on shields, could be seen as a talisman of solar power – to have it is to carry the sun’s strength and protection. In Norse sagas, the sun-wheel might be invoked for victory or protection (similar to how the cross is used as a protective sign). Fast-forward to today: while scientists aren’t invoking Ra or Odin, they are effectively harnessing light in unprecedented ways. The secular pursuit of knowledge has ironically led to outcomes that echo ancient mystical ambitions – bottling sunlight, attaining a form of immortality for light (since stopping light could be seen as suspending time for it). Finally, the cross shape as a unifying motif reminds us of the deep human affinity for certain fundamental patterns. The cross within a circle is ancient and worldwide – it appears in Native American petroglyphs, Asian steppe art, European megaliths, African ornaments. It’s possible that its recurrence is due to how our eyes and minds perceive the sun: when we squint at the bright sun, we often see streaks of light in a cross shape (an effect of our eye’s diffraction or lens flare). Thus, the sun itself might suggest a cross form to our vision, inspiring the earliest artists to carve what they literally saw. Similarly, when scientists today simulate or photograph extreme light phenomena, the image naturally takes on a star-crossed form. In both cases, the cross of light emerges at the limit of our perception of brightness. This commonality hints that the symbol isn’t arbitrary; it’s rooted in optical reality.

Conclusion

The comparison of frozen light with the Sun Cross reveals a beautiful continuity between our ancient symbolic imagination and modern scientific visualization. What ancient priests represented with a carved cross-in-circle to signify the Sun’s glory and stillness, modern scientists inadvertently mirrored with a cross-shaped “snapshot” of light made still. Both speak to a fundamental human fascination: to capture light – whether for worship or for knowledge. The golden cross burst of the lab and the carved sun cross of the temple differ in context by millennia, yet they converge in form and meaning. Each is a cross manifesting light: one literally light turned into a solid pattern, the other light turned into a sacred sign. This convergence of imagery suggests that science and spirituality, despite their different languages, often rhyme in unexpected ways. The Sun Cross symbol that once aligned mankind with the heavens finds an echo in the cutting-edge experiments that pin down light itself. In both, we see an interplay of illumination and form, energy and order – a reminder that certain symbols are truly timeless, illuminating our path from the primitive sunrise of civilization to the bright dawn of scientific discovery.

Before Creation, Only God Existed

“Before creation commenced there was the One Father/Mother Being and from this Divinity came the heavenly Twins. From these were born three, and the three became many.

“The Originating Divinity is called many names among men, and in Egypt His names are hidden in other names. Among the Chosen Ones, He is called The Craftsman Creator, but men and women name Him differently among the people. Likewise, some say ‘Him’ while others say ‘Her;’ it is all alike, for these are no more than the words and distinctions of mortal man. Heaven is the sphere of God, the true abode of His Spirit in essence. There is the Heaven above, which is the High Heaven, and the Heaven below, which is the reflection of the High Heaven. The true Center of God is in Newit.

“The Craftsman of Creation placed Heaven and Earth apart. He set the sun and Stars in motion and spread wide the Earth beneath them. His wisdom, He enclosed within the hearts of men, wherein it still lies sleeping. …

“Out of the Land of God, to the East, came Osireh, who was one filled with the Spirit of God, the first Vice-regent of God on Earth. Truly a god who walked among men, a true Son of God. He learned, by

communicating with the heart of God, what lesser beings can hope to learn only by long contemplation of the Sacred Writings. Yet he said, “Not all can hope to see; it is not a thing granted to men. But even he who only hears and has faith in his heart, who stretches himself out to do good, who conforms with the teachings, who is one with us, he also shall attain to the glory of an awakened spirit. He, too, shall share the joyful heritage of a righteous man. I who have journeyed the full distance to the Fount of Fire, lit a torch there and turned back to meet you with the comforting light of its flame. Hence, there is no need for you to journey the full length of the long, weary road to see Truth.”

-The Kolbrin Bible (MAN:33:7-9, 12)

The One Father/Mother

It is conventional to refer to God as Male, but most spiritual people are aware that God is just as much female as male. God cannot create something he knows nothing about, so as the creator of both male and female beings, God must be both. If you have been in Cosolargy for some time, and you attend the Divine Sunrise Services, or listen to the recording of them, you might notice in the wording of one of the prayers at the end of the service, the Minister reading the prayer refers to God as “My Father, my Mother, my Bride, my Groom.” etc. This shows that, like the ancient Egyptian priest who wrote this part of the Kolbrin Bible, we recognize that God is all, not just male.

Heaven is the Sphere of God

Heaven is the place where God is found. I think most of us understand that. It is referred to as a sphere because the nine dimensions of reality are generally thought of as being nested like a nesting doll or like the layers of an onion. Each dimension is within the next higher one. While the actual shape of the dimensions is unknown, it is convenient to picture them as spheres.

The quote says there are two heavens, the Heaven above and the heaven below. Most consider Heaven to be the eighth dimension, with the Godhead being the ninth. The heaven below probably means the fifth dimension, where many Spiritual Beings dwell.

The center of God is “Newit” which can mean spirit or new life. I think both meanings apply to God.

First Vice-regent

The quote says the first vice-regent of God on Earth was someone called Osireh. We don’t know who this was, but it obviously refers to a person who reached the level of spiritual awareness to be considered a Christ. In other words, one who had fully awakened his Christ Consciousness. The importance of this statement is that it tells us there has been more than one person who became a Christ on Earth. Jesus was one, and so was Buddha, but there were others. Jamil was one as well. And now we have the Presence of God shining down on us in the Sun of Righteousness, meaning that God Himself has become Christ in this final age.

Egypt Loses its Spiritual Greatness

“O great city, O heart of Egypt, your habitations are overthrown and your sacred shrines lie buried beneath the sands of time. The dust of ages enwraps you, as a dead one is swathed within the tomb. Your temples still stand and ring with noise, but the solemn shrines are silent. They have become an abode for the wild dog and scorpion, and your roads are highways of wickedness.

“Behold, in the days long gone down into dust, the whirlwind came and earth poured out her wrathful breath, so that you were burnt. The evildoers were swept away by the waters, and the wicked ones were

swallowed up in the fires. The days of the years were shortened and the times of all things altered. The seasons were turned around, so that the seed rotted within the soil, and no green shoots came forth to greet the day. All buds withered upon the vines, the land lay dead under its grey shroud. The moon changed the order of her ways, and the sun set himself a new course, so that men knew not where they were and all were afflicted. The stars swam in a new direction, and the whole order of things was changed. Yet, O Egypt, even from those days of calamity you emerged unbroken, your spirit intact,

your heart unshaken. What has happened to you, O land of mine?

“Weep, O land of Egypt, weep for the things that have gone. Weep for the spirit now-departed. Weep for the betrayed gods, weep for The Great God so high above them that you scarcely knew him. Weep for the destruction that has befallen you. Weep for all the beauty and glory that have gone down into the dust. Weep for eternal ages, and sleep for evermore. Your spirit has departed, your life had ebbed away, your vitality has burnt itself out, only the empty corpse remains. The generations yet to tread the Earth will know nothing of you. They will see no more than the dead, dried, mummified thing. The loving life that once vitalized it so gloriously, they cannot know. O Son of Kebew, forgive the people of this land for their ways. Reveal your greatness by serving those who no longer walk in the light of your instruction, even as you served their fathers in days gone by.”

-The Kolbrin Bible (Man:33:1-3)

Sacred Shrines Buried

This quote from the Kolbrin Bible indicates that Egypt was already losing its status as a world leader of spiritual development, even at the time this was written many centuries ago. If you have studied ancient spiritual schools at all, you know that ancient Egypt was a leader in spiritual sciences. Unfortunately, materialism took over, as it did in so many other places. As a result of this loss, crime became common, which is why it says the roads became “highways of wickedness.”

Days Long Gone

It isn’t difficult to understand this part of the quote. The whirlwind and the wrathful breath of the earth probably refer to volcanoes and tornadoes. While there are no active volcanoes in Egypt today, it is believed that there were some in ancient times.

There may also have been earthquakes causing tsunamis, which explains the part about evil ones being swept away by water. But we may be talking about a greater catastrophe than any of this. It may be that either the poles of the Earth reversed, causing the planet to flip over, or the poles of the sun reversed. Either of those things could have caused great catastrophes on earth. Another theory is that a large asteroid may have passed very close to Earth, causing the catastrophes. Whatever happened, the point being made is that the ancient temples of spiritual development were destroyed or damaged to the point where they stopped being used, resulting in a descent into materialism. A recent news article says there is evidence of a major cataclysm in the Nile Delta of Egypt in ancient times.

The Great God

The quote continues by saying the people of Egypt should weep for the betrayed gods and the Great God they hardly knew. Of course, the students, adepts, and masters in the great spiritual schools knew of the Great God, the one and only True God, but only the most advanced students were able to reach the very high level of consciousness that permitted them to communicate directly with God and his Angels., so only they could claim to truly know God.

A Real Physician

“The physician must know the courses of the Watchers. He must know their times and their comings and goings. He must know the secret of the Lord of Forms and the way of the Guide of Souls. He must know who are the Owners of Forms and who are the Formless Ones.

“He must know their abode. He must know the road and the four ways of entry. He must know the nature of the double power. He must be a master at drawing forth the spirit. He must know the outside of man, the things which flow over it. He must know the inside man, the substances which fill it. He must know the heart, the muscles that move out from it, controlling every action of the body.

“These are words to fill the ears of the physician. These things are written on his heart. The physician sits on a throne of silence. The physician absorbs the pains of the sick through his ears. If any man opens the door of his heart to the physician, the tongue has no knowledge of what the ears have heard. The inmost room is open to the silent man. The heart of the physician is not puffed up because of his knowledge. He talks with the simple man as though he were wise. The words of the physician are as

healing herbs. The physician bears himself so that when the eyes of the sick fall upon him, they are half cured. The eyes of the physician see through the flesh, When he sat before his master, he learned to bear patiently the chastisements for his own failings, now, he can justly reprove another for his. The tongue of the physician is dipped in honey, not in guile. Where Truth adds to suffering without benefit, then he may veil it, but never will he do so without purpose or care.”

-The Kolbrin Bible (Man:32:2-4)

The Watchers

In some ancient lands, spiritual beings such as angels were called Watchers because they watched over us. They also helped people turn to God and develop their spiritual selves as well as helping to protect them from evil forces and beings within certain limits because the realm of matter is the realm of the fallen angels.

Lord of Forms

The Lord of Forms is God, but the law of physical forms is the Demiurge, the false god. The Guide of Souls is the true God, although spiritual teachers and Gurus are also guides to the Soul. So what this part of the quote is saying is that in order for a physician to do his job properly, he must be aware of both good and evil beings, positive and negative influences. That seems obvious to most of us, but many practicing medicine today have no knowledge of the spiritual and treat only physical ailments as if the body has no connection to the spirit. A proper physician knows that sometimes taking care of spiritual needs can also help heal the physical body.

Throne of Silence

This tells us that even in ancient times, it was considered improper for a doctor to talk about his patients and their illnesses. Of course, a doctor could say she has healed someone of this disease or another without naming the patients.

Absorbs the Pain of the Sick

Physicians generally don’t do this, although some have enough empathy to feel some of what the patient feels. It is true, however, that many spiritual healers heal by first taking the illness from the patient into themselves, then using their own healing powers to heal themselves. Gene Savoy, Sr. was known to use that method when he was young and strong.

The Physicians Words

The good physician doesn’t berate the patient for being overweight or for going for a hike in a wilderness area and coming in contact with poisonous plants. A real physician heals without being judgmental. By the same token, the good physician uses the treatment he thinks will work best, even if others may consider it outdated. He also has to consider the beliefs of the patient. If the patient doesn’t believe herbs or other natural treatments work, then the doctor may have to treat that person with drugs. On the other hand, the patient who doesn’t trust modern drugs should be treated with natural treatments when possible.

Origins of Light and Darkness

“There is no boundary for light. It was unknown when it began. Nothing was when light was not. Nothing was when radiance was not. Nothing was when life was not. There was never a boundary for light. Nothing was when water was not.

“Water is prior to darkness. Prior to darkness is water. Nothing is without an end. No number is before the uthras were. Light beings are prior to darkness. Prior to darkness are uthras and older than their inhabitants. Goodness is prior to the malice of the place of darkness. Gentleness is prior to the bitterness of the place of darkness. Living fire is prior to the consuming fires of the place of darkness. Praise is prior to the practice of sorcery and witchcraft. Hymns and books are prior to the sorcery of Hewath, the terrible woman.

“Darkness can’t be measured by light. The house of gloom isn’t lighted. The house of gloom isn’t lighted, and turbid waters have no sparkle. Darkness grew and creatures formed. Darkness formed, and when it formed it tested its force. It harbored malice in its mind. It imprisoned its own kanna, the place of the soul. It imprisoned its own kanna, and everything it did was nothing. The children of darkness are nothing, but the children of life stay. The house of evil is nothing, and its consuming fires die. Its sorcery dies and ends, since it has no place in eternity. It comes to nothing. The generations of life stay forever. The living instruction rises and illuminates a perishable living place.”

-The Ginza

No Boundary for Light

We know that there are boundaries for some types of physical light, so it should be obvious that what the Ginza is talking about is Spiritual Light. The traditional Bible has God creating Light before anything else, but that still gives people the idea that there was a time when the Light didn’t exist. That idea is false simply because everything that is purely spiritual exists outside of the limits of time and space, so it has no beginning and no end, no boundaries of any kind. And as the quote says, nothing existed before Light.

Nothing Before Life

The statement that nothing existed before Life means spiritual life. Spiritual Life, like Spiritual Light, exists outside of the limitations of space and time. But this means more than that. It tells us that Life is everywhere and everything is alive. Perhaps not in the physical sense, yet all things are alive on the spiritual level. Native Americans understood this and said all things have a spirit, even rocks, mountains, and rivers. Since a spirit is always alive, that means those things are alive as well.

Water Before Darkness

Since Darkness refers to the fallen realm of matter, this also cannot refer to physical water. It means the Word of God, which “flows” from the Godhead like water to enlighten those who attune themselves to it.

Nothing is Without an End

This one can be confusing because of the sudden shift. All of the previous lines of the quote talk about spiritual things. In this case, it means physical things. All physical things come to an end. Some will argue that they don’t come to an end; they just change form, but for the form that was, an end has happened.

No Number Before the Uthras

An odd way to word it, but what this is saying is that there were no beings existing before the high-level Spiritual Beings that are here called Uthras, but we would call them Angels or beings of Light. Since the physical realm was an offshoot of the spiritual realm, physical beings, which is what I think was meant by “no number,” could not have existed before spiritual beings.

Goodness Prior to Darkness

Since Spirit came before matter, goodness existed before Darkness. This doesn’t mean the kind of darkness you get when you turn out the lights in a room. The Darkness means the realm of the fallen angels, also called the Demiurge. Since that realm of matter was “created” by changing Spirit into something else, Spirit had to exist first, and true Goodness is found only in Spirit.

House of Gloom

This is obviously a reference to the lower dimension generally called Hell. There is no Spiritual Light in that lower dimension, so if one wishes to turn away from Hell and head toward Heaven, it must be done while still living physically in the third dimension where it is still possible to access the Spiritual Light from God, especially now that we have the Sun of Righteousness shining down on us.

Eighth and Ninth Dimensions

“’My father, yesterday you promised me you would take my mind to the eighth heavenly sphere and after that you would take me to the ninth. You said this is the sequence of the tradition.’

‘Yes, my child, this is the sequence, but the promise was made about human nature. I said to you when I first made the promise, ‘If you remember each of the stages.’ After I received the spirit through the power, I established the action for you. Clearly understanding dwells within you. In me it is as if the power were pregnant, for when I conceived from the spring that flows to me, I gave birth.’

“’Father, you have spoken every word rightly to me, but I am amazed at what you say. You said, ‘The power in me.’’ He said, ‘I gave birth to it as children are born.’

“’Then, father, I have many siblings if I am to be counted among the generations.’

“’Right, child. This good thing is counted . . . always. So, child, you must know your siblings and honor them rightly, since they have come from the very same father. For each of the generations have I addressed. I have named them, since they are offspring like these children.’ ‘Then, father, do they have a day?’

“’Child, they are spiritual, for they exist as forces that nurture other souls. That is why I say they are immortal.’

“ ‘Your word is true. From now on it cannot be refuted. Father, begin the discourse on the eighth and the ninth, and count me also with my siblings.’

“’Let us pray, child, to the father of the universe, with your siblings, who are my children, that the father may grant the spirit of eloquence.’”

-The Discourse on the Eighth and Ninth

The Eighth Heavenly Sphere

What the quote calls “the eighth heavenly sphere” is better referred to today as the eighth dimension. The dimension we live in as physical beings is the third. The second dimension is the one commonly called Hell or Hades. They are dimensions, not physical places. The speaker in the dialogue asks God to take his mind to the eighth and ninth dimensions. It must be understood that many people in the time this was written considered the soul to be part of the mind. Some still do, but they are wrong. The spirit and soul are independent of the physical brain and the mind associated with it.

Each of the Stages

The Father, God, tells the speaker to remember each of the stages he must go through if he is to reach the lofty heights of the eighth and ninth dimensions. The list of stages is not provided and never is. Certain facts about spiritual development were never put into writing in the past. Today, we know that the True Path is through awakening and developing the Spirit through the reception of the Light of the Spiritual Sun. So, God is telling him that enlightenment is not something simply granted on request. It must be worked for and developed gradually.

I Have Many Siblings

In a spiritual sense, all Souls are siblings as they are all Children of God, so that is why the person in the dialog has many siblings. That is why spiritual Masters such as Jesus and Buddha have always taught that we should treat each other as brothers and sisters, regardless of race, religion, nationality, or sexual identity. Those superficial physical attributes are irrelevant on the spiritual level. Sadly, we are today seeing many practicing the exact opposite of what the great Spiritual Master taught, yet many of them still claiming to be Christians, Buddhists, or Jews.

They are Immortal

Spirits are immortal. They don’t age, get sick and die, suffer from illnesses, etc. Yet many people show little concern for the Spirit and Soul. Fortunately, now that we are in the time of the Sun of Righteousness, that is changing. More and more people are awakening to the fact that they have a spirit as well as a body and mind, and the spirit is at least as important as the body. The numbers may be relatively small at this time, but they are growing. It has been prophesied that it will take only the development of twelve spiritual masters on Earth in order for the world to be changed back to the spiritual form that God always intended it to be.

Rise to the Challenge of a Time of Affliction

love

C

“Men of no estate and landless men become the lords of men, and strangers become masters of slaves and servants. They stir up strife among the people and say, “This is because we are protected by gods of

power; by what are you protected?” The people know not that the power of gods is sustained by the spiritual devotion of the people, and their power flows from the strength and goodness of their worshipers. When a people fail their god, that god fails the people.

“I am a man instructed and know this is a time of strengthening affliction, but my heart troubles me. Will the people understand this? Will they rise to meet the challenge or go down the path of ease, the fair path of flowers and fragrance? Is this the Land of Leaders, wherein will be

erected the Temple of Truth and the Stairway to Heaven? Would that I could peer through the door of the unborn days!

“Strange bowmen have entered the redlands, and they spoil the people. They are men whose delight is in suffering. They are men whose pleasure is destruction; they tear down but do not build. The roads are covered, and the water channels opened. The craftsman no longer interests himself in his craft, for that which he makes is taken away. He who reaps does not store the corn, while he who is without a plow never lacks a full storehouse. The harvests go unrecorded, and he who toils not eats with he who has labored at the ingathering. The man without cattle eats meat, while the man who owns them eats herbs. The waters rise and fall away from the land, but none plows or sows, for men say, “The events of tomorrow are unknown, and who knows what man will reap where we have ploughed and sown?”

“The scribe is stricken and dies on his stool. His writings become a mystery and are disdainfully trodden underfoot. The fruit of many days’ labor become kindling, the wisdom and knowledge of generations become fuel for fires of destruction.”

-The Kolbrin Bible (Man:30:15-18)

Men of No Estate

What the quote says has little meaning today. There are many of us who are not landowners or owners of homes. But what this really means is that people who are not invested in society are still becoming leaders of those societies. A person who has never had to work a day in his life shouldn’t be running a corporation with thousands of employees. A person who has no background in politics shouldn’t be elected to a high office. More importantly, churches and spiritual schools are being led by materialistic people who have little spiritual knowledge.

Protected by the Gods of Power

Despots, dictators, false preachers, and Gurus are protected by the “gods of power”. What they don’t seem to realize is that the god of power, might, war, greed, etc., is not the true God but the false god, the Demiurge. In other words, these greedy despots are Satanists, even if they don’t know it. And we have seen in this age that when people turn away from God, God no longer helps them. God will help anyone who wants to develop their spiritual Self, but God doesn’t help the materialist who prays only for a new home, a new car, etc. Those are the gifts of Satan, not God.

Will People Rise to Meet the Challenge?

We are seeing people rising up against rampant materialism and greed and seeking a spiritual awakening and spiritual life. The numbers may be small, but growing all the time. Even the despots feel the Sun of Righteousness pulling them towards the spiritual, but they are so materialistic. They don’t know why. They know they are not satisfied with what they have, so instead of turning to something else, they keep grabbing up more and more physical wealth. In the end, though, God will win, and the world will change for the better.

Strange Bowmen in the Redlands

This is saying that foreigners are entering countries and taking over, turning people away from their traditions. In many cases, these foreigners are materialistic or atheists and turn the people away from God and spiritual matters. Such people often claim things that are not theirs as they have not worked to earn them. In the United States, we have corporate leaders earning three hundred or four hundred times what the average worker gets. Meanwhile, politicians line their pockets with money often gained illegally, or at least immorally.

The Future

Despite all these horrors, the authors of the Kolbrin Bible (Egyptian priests) saw happening, they were eventually overcome. We are now living in another age of rampant materialism, probably the worse ever, but this one will end with the dawning of a New Golden Age of Light and Wisdom. As the old saying goes, “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” And for this new age to happen, the dark ones must be brought out of their hiding places and exposed to the light of day so they can be converted or eliminated. But the way we defeat evil is not by behaving like them. We do it by sending thoughts of peace, joy, and love into the world and practicing them in our lives.

Land of Lawlessness and Betrayal

“Even the halls of judgment are no longer inviolate; the decrees are cast forth to be stamped underfoot by ignorant men. Even things that sustain the spirit now serve to prepare sustenance for the belly. Records are falsified, so that no man knows the true from the false. The tallies of produce are no longer taken, and corn becomes the property of any man. He who lies readily gets the best; he who acts the deceiver gets most. Ignorant men have raised themselves to high estate by falsehood and deceit. None

raises hand or voice against them, and therefore their ways are acclaimed and emulated. Truth is mocked and justice vilified.

“A man fears his brother as a foe and his son as a betrayer. He plows his field bearing shield and sword. Men walk abroad girded for battle, but now the day has dawned when henceforth even manly defense is denied them. When a man is slain by the side of his own brother, he who lives flees to save his limbs. When a woman is ravished, they who see turn away. The screams of maidens fall on deaf ears.

“Spearmen gather in bands, but the standards they bear are not those of justice and Truth. Bowmen stand alert, and arrows are loosened in their quivers. The men of blood exult, for it is their day. If a man of high estate be unguarded, he is slain, and if rich he is robbed. If a highborn woman be unprotected through lack of kindred or gold, she becomes a harlot. In the marketplace men say, ‘Better a well fed harlot than a goddess dead from hunger.’”

-The Kolbrin Bible (MAN:30:12-14)

Stamped Underfoot

The quote above was written thousands of years ago, but we see many of the same problems today. Since these writings are all about spiritual matters, we can assume that the reference to judgment is not about civil judges but about those who were in charge of judging the students of the spiritual Mystery Schools of the day. In those times, such judges also made rules for the general population to follow if they wanted to remain in the good graces of God, but as the quote says, their decrees were ignored and stamped underfoot by those who were turning away from the spiritual and toward the material.

Records are Falsified

It has long been noted that history books, especially those about the history of wars, are written by the victors. While they may not be false, they are rarely accurate as they almost always vilify the losers. In addition, today we no longer have news media that sticks to simply telling the facts. Instead, they are full of opinion so depending on which newspaper you read, or news program you watch, you can get completely opposite views of an issue or event.

High Estate

We are certainly seeing in today’s world many instances of ignorant men and women being elected to high office, or putting themselves in those offices. Sadly, many ignorant and uneducated people think it is a good idea to have such people as their leaders.

It is also true, as it was at the time of the quote, that most men are afraid to say anything against these despots for fear of punishment for doing so.

Standards are not those of Justice and Truth

We are also seeing this today. People are once again wearing the swastika with impunity, as well as other symbols of white supremacy. In addition, flags that once flew to represent truth, justice, and equality, are now used to represent the opposite. And armies do march to do evil and protect the despots rather than protecting the innocent. Fortunately, a new age of Spirit is coming, and all of these horrors will end.

A Priest of the Lord

“I am a priest of the lord and serve him as priest. I offer him the offering of his thought. His thought is not like the world, not of the flesh or of those who serve in the flesh. The lord offers his goodness, his stainless heart and lips, his inner world that is faultless. Let hearts not oppress hearts, nor souls harm souls. Don’t bribe a stranger, because that stranger is you. Don’t trick your neighbor. Don’t take the clothing from him that hides his nakedness, but dress in the grace of the lord generously and walk in paradise and from his tree make a garland for your head. Loop it around your hair. Be happy and rest in his rest. His glory will go before you. You will inhabit his kindness and grace and be fat in truth with the praise of his holiness. Praise and honor his name. I raised my arms high to the grace of the lord, for he cast off my bonds. My helper had raised me to his grace and salvation. I discarded darkness and dressed in the clothing of light. My soul acquired a body free from sorrow, free from torture and mutilation. The lord’s thought restored me. I fed on his incorruptible fellowship. In the light he raised me. I went to him, near him, praising and shouting his name. He made my heart flood into my mouth. I was rescued from my chains and fled to you, my god. You are the right hand of my salvation and my helper. You held back those who rose against me and the disappeared. Your face was with me. I was saved by your grace. But in the eyes of many I was abhorred and excluded. In their eyes I was lead. I assumed strength from you and drank your help.”

-Songs of Solomon

I Serve God as a Priest

The function of a priest or minister is to serve God. We serve God by obeying His will and by doing His work on earth. We also serve God by sending thoughts of Peace, Love, Joy, and Truth to others. When we help the downtrodden, the rejects of the social system, and those who are ill or handicapped, we are serving God. Most of all, we help God when we help others turn away from materialism and toward the spiritual life that God wants all of us to have.

His World is Faultless

God’s World, also called the Kingdom of God or heaven, is faultless. It is a place where there is no death, no disease and no suffering. It is a place of Truth where no lies exist. It is also a place of Knowledge. Knowledge of all that is real. It is not a place of rest. The souls who have reached that level still continue to work helping others.

That Stranger is You

When you bribe a stranger, trick your neighbor, or cheat another person, you are only doing it to yourself. That is because, ultimately, we are all part of the One Whole creation of God. The modern science of Quantum Physics has shown that things can be connected together, even at a great distance. But in actual fact, all things are connected together in the great matrix of life. So, even when you harm an animal, you are hurting yourself.

Discard Darkness and Dress in Light

Some people who think they are spiritual believe we need to accept Darkness as a part of what we are just as much as Light. That philosophy is wrong. We do need to acknowledge that we have a dark side, but we don’t embrace it; we discard it as much as possible, as the quote says. There will always be some darkness in us, but we should not let it get its way. When we slip up and do something dark, we should forgive ourselves and embrace the Light. Don’t give up on yourself just because you slip a little. Keep moving forward to the Light. That is how you live as a priest of God.

The Physical Body cannot Ascend into Heaven

“Some are afraid that they will ascend from death naked, and they want to climb back to life in their flesh. They are unaware that those who wear their flesh are naked, and those who strip are not naked. ‘Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of god.’ What will we not inherit? The flesh we wear on us. Then both are wrong. You say the flesh won’t ascend. Tell me, what will rise so I can honor you? You say spirit in the flesh and light in the flesh. What is the flesh? You say there is nothing outside the flesh. Then rise in the flesh, since everything exists in it. In this world those wearing garments are better than garments. In heaven the garments are better than the wearers.

“Through water and fire this wide realm is purified, and the visible cleaned by the visible, and the hidden by the hidden, but there are elements concealed in the visible. …

“The heavenly man has more children than a man on earth. If the offspring of Adam are many and die, how many more are the offspring of perfect beings who do not die and are born each second? The father makes a child. The child cannot make a son. He has not the power to make children. One recently born is not a parent. The son has brothers and sisters, not children. In this world there is a natural order to birth, and one is nourished by ordinary means. We are nourished by the promise of heaven, from the mouth of the word. If the word emanated from the mouth, it is perfect. By a kiss the perfect conceive and give birth. That is why we kiss. From the grace in others we conceive. …

“It is impossible to see anything in the real realm unless you become it. Not so in the world. You see the sun without being the sun, see sky and earth but are not them. This is the truth of the world. In the other truth you are what you see. If you see spirit, you are spirit. If you look at the anointed, you are the anointed. If you see the father, you will be father. In this world you see everything but yourself, but there, you look at yourself and are what you see.”

-The Gospel of Philip

Ascending Naked

You have to read and understand the entire sentence here to realize that what it means by “naked” is without the physical body. Those who believe they can ascend while still in the physical body need to read scripture more closely.

Nothing Outside the Flesh

Some people believe their physical body is all they have, so it must be able to ascend into Heaven, but they are wrong. Only the Soul ascends into Heaven, and then only if it has been properly prepared and nurtured.

Purified by Water and Fire

Yes, we are purified by water and fire, but not the physical elements bearing those names. This is an allegorical reference. We are purified by God’s Word and God’s Light. That is the water and fire that purifies the Soul.

More Children

How can a person in heaven have more children than a person on Earth? How can they have any children with no physical body? It is because when you have succeeded in ascending to Heaven, you become one with God, one with the All, therefore, all souls are your brothers and sisters, all are your children, all are your spouses because all are in the One.

Impossible to See

Philip says it is impossible to see anything in the real realm of spirit unless you become it. I think that may be an exaggeration. We can see spirits at times when we practice spiritual development techniques. Perhaps what Philip means is that we cannot really understand the spiritual until we are part of it. It’s like a primitive person seeing a car for the first time. They do see it in a limited way, but they don’t understand it.
