“Immaterial Ideas and the Philosophy of Leibnitz”

“German philosophy had its inception with Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibnitz, whose theories are permeated with the qualities of optimism and idealism. …
“Matter reduced to its ultimate particles ceases to exist as a substantial body, being resolved into a mass of immaterial ideas or metaphysical units of power: to which Liebnitz applied the term monad. Thus the universe is composed of an infinite number of separate monadic entities unfolding spontaneously through the objectification of innate active qualities. All things are conceived as consisting of single monads of varying magnitude or of aggregations of these bodies, which may exist as physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual substances. God is the first and greatest Monad: the spirit of is an awakened monad in contradiction to the lower kingdoms.” ~Manly P. Hall

Gottfried Leibnitz

To be honest, I had never heard of Leibnitz until I read the brief blurb on him in the book on philosophers by Manly P. Hall. Now that I have briefly looked at some of his ideas, I can understand why.

“Infused Contemplation for Divine Knowledge and Oneness”

“Intuitive or infused contemplation is the form of communion with the transcendent proper to those who have grown up to the state of Union; and feel and know the presence of God within the soul, as a love, a life, an ‘in-drawing attraction,’ calling and enticing all things to the still unachieved consummation of the Divine unity. He who has reached this pitch of introversion, and s able, in his spiritual exercises, to withdraw himself thus to the most secret part of his spirit, feels—within the Eternal Light which fill his mirror and is ‘united with it,’—this perpetual demand of the Divine unity, entreating and urging him. … Then he will live at those levels to which he now makes impassioned ascents in his hours of unitive prayer.” ~Evelyn Underhill

Infused Contemplation

While I was raised in the Catholic Church, I don’t recall ever hearing the term “Infused contemplation”. When I looked it up, though, I find that it is a defined as higher contemplation in the Catholic Church. Specifically, it refers to those who concentrate on becoming one with God and on serving God. Serving God, not the church. In today’s world, serving a church and serving God is rarely the same thing.

“Twice Born Goal of the Spiritual Student”

“For long years, he who aspired to become one of the Twice Born had to practice the awakening of his spirit and bring his body under complete control. The first thing to overcome was met long before any threshold was approached. It was something which lurked in the uncontrolled thoughts of men. The frightening experiences during the years of preparation had to be modified and their effect channeled off; otherwise, the awakened spirit would have been completely overwhelmed. …

“Having arisen from the Womb of Rebirth, the spirit is completely freed from any doubt about the immortality of man. Can a man doubt the source of sunlight when he can see the sun arising in glory before his eyes? Having joined the Twice born, … he can go on to higher development within the Realms of Light.” ~The Kolbrin Bible (SOF:2:21-22)

Twice Born Aspirations

The “Twice Born” are those who have has a second, birth, a spiritual birth, an awakening of their soul. Many aspire to be twice born, but don’t know what to do. Others, when told it is a difficult process that will probably take years, decide they can’t be bothered. Then of course, there are those who will remain comfortable in the fantasy that they will someday achieve rebirth and spiritual enlightenment with no effort on their part.

But as the quote indicates, the serious spiritual student will practice his awakening techniques regularly until that awakening happens. Then he/she will join the ranks of the twice born.

“Subjective Reality and the Truth Behind It”

“I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness.” ~Max Planck

“Most of what exists in the universe cannot be seen [by the physical eyes]. … And what we do see and touch is not as it seems, having no solidity whatsoever when examined at the smallest levels. ..
“Now the very interesting realization that comes about when you integrate these two facts is that the idea of an objective reality that we can observe separate from us completely falls apart. In fact, the inescapable conclusion from all these scientific discoveries is that ‘separation’ is the biggest illusion of all. In reality, quantum physicists have discovered (much to their shock) that everything is connected as one thing that is merely appearing to be many things.” Ziad Masri

A Changing World of Science

It seems we have just about come full circle with regard to science and spirituality. Many centuries ago, when religion, spirituality, and mysticism was all the same thing, science was also part of it. The priests, teachers, and prophets were as much scientists as they were mystics and spiritual teachers.

“Evil Eye and the Healing Soul”

“The passions of the soul which adhere to the imaginations many, if they are sufficiently strong, not only produce changes in the organism to which they belong, but also be transferred upon another organism. … The state of the soul is the principle cause of the condition of the external body. A strong, exalted soul, stimulated by a strong and active imagination, may not merely cause health or disease in her own organism, but also in that of others with which she comes in contact. Evil disposed persons may exert a very evil influence upon others by their look. The invisible forces emanating from the soul through the eye are much more powerful … than the emanations of the physical body.” ~Franz Hartmann

Passions of the Soul

“Many people confuse the subconscious mind with the soul. To some degree, I think Mr. Hartmann has done that. Still, there is great value in what he says.

“The soul really has only one passion: the desire to go home. Home being the high-level spiritual realm called Heaven. Trapped on the material plane, the soul is like a fish out of water. That is why we enter this realm with our spirit and soul in a dormant state. Once awakened, they can benefit us greatly, but they also want to leave. It is only the soul’s love of Man that keeps it here.”

“Divine Intellect and the Soul of Man”

“All that is Divine Intellect will rest eternally above, and could never fall from its sphere but, poised entire in its own high place, will communicate to things here through the channel of Soul. Soul in virtue of neighborhood is more closely modeled upon the idea uttered by the Divine Intellect, and thus is able to produce order in the movement of the lower realm. …The Cosmic Law is, thus, rooted in a natural principle under which each entity is overruled to go, duty and in order, towards that place and kind to which it characteristic tends, that is towards the image of the primal choice.” ~Plotinus

Divine Intellect

“Plotinus says that Divine Intellect, the mind of God, must ‘rest eternally above.’ Not above in a physical sense, but in the highest dimensions of spirit. God can never fall from His ‘sphere,’ Plotinus says, and he is correct.”

“Traveler’s Journey to Spiritual Knowledge and Truth”

“The Traveler’s journey to God is complete when he attains knowledge of Him—’Illumination,’ in the language of European mystics. The point at which this is reached is called the Tavern or resting-place upon the road, where he is fed with the divine mysteries. There are also “Wine Shops” upon the way, where the weary pilgrim is cheered and refreshed by a draft of the wine of Divine Love. Only when the journey to God is completed begins the ‘Journey in God’—that which the Christian mystics call the Unitive Way—and this, since it is the essence of Eternal Life, can have no end.” ~Evelyn Underhill

The Traveler’s Journey

“This road to enlightenment that Ms. Underhill calls “The Traveler’s Journey” is divided into two parts.. The first part is finding God, the second is becoming united with Him. We could also say that the two parts, or two directions of the journey, is outward and inward.”

“Traveling Soul, Infinite Spirit, Being Everywhere”

“The Incorporeal governs the Corporeal, and is, therefore, present everywhere, although not as space, but in power. The corporeal existence of things cannot hinder the incorporeal from being present to such things as it desires to enter into relation with. The Soul has therefore the power to extend her activity to any locality she may desire. She is a power which has no limits, and each part of her, being independent of special conditions, can be present everywhere, provided she is pure and unadulterated with matter. Things do not act upon each other merely by the contact of the corporeal forms, but also at a distance, provided they have a soul, because the higher elements of the soul are everywhere.” ~Porphyry

Traveling Soul

Porphyry says the soul can extent her activities to any location. This is true, in a sense. Actually, since the soul is pure spirit, and spirit is not limited by time and space, the soul is always everywhere. At least, the awakened soul is. But just as we can focus our attention on one thing, or in one direction, so can the spirit and soul.

“Solar Pulsations and Universal Cycles, Physical and Spiritual”

“The unmodified rays of the sun produce aerial convulsions that are marked by thermal contrasts, and other meteorological variations, during which the heat of summer and the cold of winter follow each other and periodically and unceasingly. These successive solar pulsations generate winds, calms, and storms, and in order to protect himself against such exposure and changes in material surrounding, man toils, suffers, and comes to believe that the doom, if not the object, of life on earth is the preservation of the earthly body. … From the cradle to the grave, of these facts man is ignorant, although each individual is aware he is not satisfied with his condition.” ~John Uri Lloyd

Solar Pulsations

“Other than being a master of the run-on sentence (86 words in that first one), Mr Lloyd has said quite a lot in this quote. I don’t think I would use the word “convulsions” to describe these changes, though it isn’t false. Rather, I would say that these solar pulsations create cycles. Cycles of hot and cold, wet and dry, calm and stormy, and so on. The effects of these solar pulsations goes way beyond weather.

“They can affect business. Like everything else, there are growing cycles for businesses and there are down cycles when no growth is possible. The smart and intuitive business operator doesn’t ignore those solar cycles. She doesn’t waste time any money pushing for growth during a down cycle. Instead, she just does enough marketing to coast through the period, then waits to push for growth when the cycle is on the up side.

“In medicine, these solar pulsations matter also. There are periods when a sick or injured person will heal quickly and other times when they won’t. There are periods when they are more likely to catch an illness than others. Doctors and medical researchers will say this is due to the persons state-of-health. While that is true to a large degree, the solar cycles are also involved.

Spiritual Pulsations

“These solar cycles or solar pulsations do not just effect the physical world. They can have an effect on the spiritual side as well. We know that when sungazing, especially spiritual sun-gazing, it is usually best to do it at dawn. But there are cycles other than daily one. Cycles measured in days, months, sometimes even years. In part, this is what Astrology is all about. The various constellations people can be born under don’t really have much effect on us. What does is the state of the sun at time we are born.”
