“Dimensions of Matter and Spirit in a Multi-Dimensional Universe”

“The universe is made up of successive gradations of good, these gradations ascending from matter, (which is the least degree of good) to spirit (which is the greatest) degree of good). In man, his superior nature is the summum bonum. It therefore follows that his highest nature most readily recognizes good because the good external to him in the world is in harmonic ratio with the good present in hos soul. What man terms evil is therefore, in common with matter, merely the least degree of its own opposite. The least degree of good presupposes likewise the least degree of harmony and beauty. Thus deformity (evil) is really the least harmonious combination of elements naturally harmonic as individual units.” ~Manly P. Hall

Multi-Dimensional Universe

What Mr. Hall calls “gradations” of the universe, most of us refer to as dimensions. While I have known for some time that the dimensions increased in the level of spirit as they get higher, I never thought of equating that with levels of goodness. It does make sense to do so, however.

“Training and Understanding for Successful Spiritual Growth”

“It is of course the training and the understanding that are an important factor in the use of the arcane arts such as astrology, sacred geometry, and, indeed, theurgy. And it is perhaps worth remembering that there was a time when mathematics was seen to be fairly miraculous. Interestingly, with the development of computers, we can again return to some of the ancient ideas about the relationship between mathematics and music and find them provable.

“By quoting Irenaeus when he was talking of Marcus who was an avid user of astrology we can perhaps take the arguments in a full circle and can accept that there will always be problems in the acceptance of these arts.” ~Bernard Simon

Training and Understanding

Training is important for real spiritual growth. Understanding is even more important.

Those who chose self-training have several disadvantages. First, it is hard to know which methods really work and which don’t do anything. Second, it is hard to know what order things should be done in or where to start. Third, the books, videos, and web sites never have a complete system. The authors never tell you that.

But even if you get good training, you have to understand to apply it correctly. If a brain surgeon knows how to cut correctly, but can’t tell what tissue needs to be removed, he can’t be an effective surgeon. Similarly, if you practice spiritual techniques without any understanding of what you are doing, you will likely not get good results. In the worst cases, you might end up dealing with a demon pretending to be a light being.

So having a good teacher or a good spiritual school teaching you is worth the effort and cost. A teacher can make sure you are taught only as much as you are ready to handle. She can also make sure that you understand what you have been taught.

“Seven Aspects of God, a Complex Being”

“Seven kinds of action of Deity were perceived by Boehme, none of which were more important than the others. These were:

  1. Ungrund, the ungrounded, the hidden Mystery in all things, the transcendent aspect of Being.
  2. Primordial Divine Will, ‘Father,’ both no-thing and everything.
  3. Will made subjective, the ‘Christ’ function.
  4. Will made objective, Holy Spirit,’ movement and life.
  5. The Trinity, the coming together or expression of the three wills giving a creative unity.
  6. Logos, or ‘the Word.’ the creative vibrational principle, i. e. ‘Let there be…’
  7. Wisdom, Sophia, the feminine principle of God. This acknowledges the androgyny of the Divine from which trinity and creation are born and exist.

Boehme himself says: ‘For I saw and knew the Being of all beings …’” ~Bernard Simon

Seven By Seven

Seven is a number we see a lot in religious and spiritual writings. It is assumed by most to be a reference to the seven energy centers (chakras) of the human body, although there are actually more than seven. Here we see that Jacob Boehme, from whom I quote often, lists a different Holy Seven: the “actions” or aspects of God. If you consider these seven aspects closely, you will see that they relate to steps and methods of spiritual growth and enlightenment.

“Bonds of Matter Broken by Spirit and Truth”

Chained hands with clenched fists on a white background.

“Just as if a man were bound hand and foot with chains, and someone came and loosened his bonds, and let him walk free without interference, so the Lord looses from its bonds the soul that is bound with the chains of death, and lets it go, and sets the mind free to walk at ease and unhindered into God’s air.

“Suppose a man were in the middle of a river in full flood, and overwhelmed by the water lay lifeless, drowned, with dreadful monsters all around him. If another man, who is not used to swimming, should wish to save the one who fell in, he too is lost. … Clearly, there is need of a skilled swimmer, an expert, to go out into the water, … and bring up the drowned man. … The soul is the same way.” ~St. Macarius the Egyptian

Bonds and Chains

We don’t have to search far to find someone bound in ropes and chains. To some degree, all of us are. We are bound by our own beliefs. Chains of government and social correctness also bound us. But most of all, we are chained by the great illusion of matter.

“Souls and the Divine Light of Heaven”

“I said to the savior, Master, will all the souls then be led safely into pure light? He answered and said to me, These are great matters that have arisen in your mind, and it is difficult to explain them to anyone except those of the unshakable race. Those upon whom the spirit of life will descend and whom the spirit will empower will be saved and become perfect and be worthy of greatness and be cleansed there of all evil and the anxieties of wickedness, since they are anxious for nothing except the incorruptible alone, and concerned with that from this moment on, without anger, jealousy, envy, desire, or greed for anything.

“They are affected by nothing but being in the flesh alone, and they wear the flesh as they look forward to a time when they will be met by those who receive them. Such people are worthy of the incorruptible, eternal life and calling. They endure everything and bear everything so as to finish the contest and receive eternal life.” ~Book of Baruch

Into the Light

There seems to be a largely accepted belief that all souls will go directly to heaven when the physical person dies. This makes as much sense as claiming that everyone who has an account at a bank will inherit the banker’s money when he dies. If dropping dead were all it took to get to heaven ,we would have had a lot of saints and holy people committing suicide. People who accept this either have a very low opinion of what heaven is, or a strange belief that death absolves all sins and bad deeds. In order to understand what happens to souls after death, we have to know what heaven is and what souls are. Know, not speculate or simply accept some foolish teaching of a church used to placate and control the parishioners.

“First Ray of the Spiritual Sun”

“When we say that people should lead pure, sacred and wise lives, we have in mind that they should tap the appropriate energies of the Sun. The more inspired the person, the greater the capacity to make contact with the Spiritual energies of the Sun.

“The most luminous thought, the most sublime feeling and the most beautiful action have the first ray of the Sun within themselves, the first ray which penetrates the human soul.

“If, in the rising of the Sun, in the blossoming of the flowers, in the flowing of the river, in the relations between people, we see the presence of God, then that is the correct look.

“The future houses would be made of glass. The ultra-violet rays of the Sun would pass through them and these houses would be hygienic for that reason.” ~Biensa Douno

Sacred Lives

Douno says that a sacred life is all about taping into “the appropriate energies of the Sun”. I emphasized “appropriate,” because simply looking at the sun isn’t enough. Many are practicing some form of sun gazing these days, but it is mostly just gazing at the material sun for physical benefits. Douno rightly emphasizes that what we need to tap into is the light of the Spiritual Sun. At least if spiritual growth is our goal.

“Sleeping Soul Must Awaken Now”

“Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.
Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.
Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.
In the world’s broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!
Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,— act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o’erhead!”

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Life

The Quote is from a poem titled “A Psalm of Life”. We should expect, therefore that it is about life, and it is. But it is not just about the fleeting life in physical form. It is also about eternal life in spirit. That is the life that really matters.

Life is not, we are assured, a mere dream. Nor is it empty, meaningless. But it is those things if we look only at physical life, which is brief and full of misery and illusions.

Sleeping Soul

Longfellow tells us this negative view of life happens only to those whose soul is sleeping. This makes one wonder who that might be.

“Greater Light of Spirit, Lesser Light of Matter”

“Reason will object and say, is it not right for a man to attain the Light of God, and also the light of the outward Nature and Reason, that he may be able to order his life wisely, as the scripture directs?

“Yes, it is very right; nothing can be more profitable to a man, neither is he capable of nay thing better; nay it is a treasure above all earthly treasures for a man to have the Light of God and of Time, for it is the Eye of Time and of Eternity.

“But mark how thou ought to use it;when the Light of God first manifests itself in the Soul, it shines forth like light from a candle and kindles the outward Light of Reason immediately; yet it yields not itself up wholly to Reason, so as to be under dominion of the outward man.” ~Jacob Boehme

The Greater Light

There are a number of ways to categorize types of light, but we will limit it to a simple one for our purposes. There is mundane light that comes from the universe of matter. This is the light we see when we look at the stars or the sun.

There is another Light that is invisible to most of us. Yet it is the brightest Light of all. It can be called Spiritual Light, Divine Light, or the Light of God. Whatever you call it, it remains the greater Light of the two kinds. It is the greater light because it comes directly from God. It may reach us through an intermediary, primarily the spiritual sun, but it is still coming from God and serves as a path of communication between us and God. In fact, it links us to all being of higher consciousness.

“God’s Will and the Pure Soul”

“You ask how one who desires to follow the movements of God’s Spirit may distinguish these movements, from the natural operations of the mind. There is not, at all times, a positive certainty regarding divine movements. It it were so, we should become infallible as the angels, that is, if we were pure in intentions. We must walk with God, in entire abandonment and uncertainty, at the risk of sometimes making mistakes, which in the infancy of experience is unavoidable. …

“A pure soul acts in simplicity, and without certainty, being persuaded that what is good comes from God, and what is not good from self. … The soul in this state is only a simple instrument that the Word, which is in her, moves, so that it is the Word which speaks and not herself. … I have an experience of many years, that God often makes known His Will, only in the time of action.” ~Madam Guyon

God’s Will

It is always a good idea to follow the Will of God. Especially if you are trying to develop your spiritual side. The most obvious reason for this is that no being knows better than God Himself which is the best, most direct, and least dangerous path to follow. There is a reason why people who are successful in a field often write self-help books about it. They know the path that works. Sadly, when it come to spiritual development, there are many who will insist on following the philosophy that there is no correct path. Each of us, they say, must follow his own path. Twenty years later, those people will still be going around in circles and making no real progress. Sure, there are many paths you can take. God knows which is best.

“Sun of Life Brings Knowledge and Understanding”

Woman stands in praise before a beautiful night sky.

“What is the most sublime of concerts? The sunrise. God is the Sun of Life When this Sun awakens, you will see and understand the world in the right way.“If you wish to remain free, be like light. Light is free. If you wish to be strong think of light. Light is strong and alive. Love light and be free.

“For those who are able to see, everything in living nature is light. Everything on earth, all minerals, plants, animals, as well as the bodies of men, are nothing more than light. …

“When we say that people should lead pure, sacred and wise lives, we have in mind that they should tap the appropriate energies of the Sun.” ~Biensa Douno

Concert of the Sun

It may seem strange to refer to the sunrise as a concert, but it isn’t. Many who practice spiritual sun-gazing (not the same as gazing at the physical sun) hear divine sounds while doing so. We could also say that a concert is about hearing pleasant frequencies, frequencies that help us vibrate higher. Such frequencies come to us from the spiritual sun, even when we don’t hear them.
