You Are Invited to the 2019 Convocation

April 19, 2019

It is with great pleasure that we once again extend to you, and all our members, our special invitation to join in Community for the annual Convocation of the Sacred College, the Academy, and the ministry of the Second Advent Church.

We will meet for this year’s Convocation from Tuesday, September 3rd, through Sunday, September 8th.

This year commemorates the sixtieth year of the Church’s existence since its founding in 1959 — the Church’s Diamond Anniversary — and also the sixtieth anniversary of the birth of The Child Jamil.

We will be celebrating God’s Image and Word by reviving our work on the final volume of The Secret Sayings of Jamil. How might we fulfill our sacred obligation and destiny, which is to teach the True Religion of Light to all the world and to exemplify righteousness, beauty, and love? As Companions of The Way and disciples of The Child, and as members of the Holy Order of The Child, together we will break the seals on the final three unpublished Sayings received years ago by the late Most Right Reverend Gene Savoy Sr. and let our spirits guide us as we provide the words we need to complete the commentary on them, so that the seventh and final volume of The Secret Sayings of Jamil may be completed and published next year.

Combining our efforts on this project will create a force to inspire the world in the knowledge of living The Way and unify us with Divine Intelligence to build the Nation of God. We will have readings and discussion throughout the Convocation week. This special retreat will help bring to all of us a true connection with the fundamental principles of the Church and make a serious impact for generations to come.

Of course, there are many other activities and presentations planned during the week, including excursions, Chapel Services, and Sunrise Divine Services at the Sanctuary.

Community Celebrates Diamond Jubilee

2019 marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of The Community in 1959. It also marks the 60th observance of The Child Jamil’s physical birth on March 16, 1959 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Bishop Gene Savoy, Jr. had this to say about the anniversary, “We know from our studies that after receiving three omens in 1948, 1955 and finally in 1956, The Man – Gene Savoy, Sr. – also known in our Community as the First Apostle and Prophet, journeyed to Peru to begin his ministry in 1957. Later that year, in October after a grave illness, he experienced a visitation from an Angelic Being who announced the coming of the Wondrous Child into the world. My father later would realize that the Angelic Being was none other than Jamil himself in angelic form. Nevertheless, while The Man’s ministry began in 1957, the Community was founded with the birth of The Child in 1959. The full story is recounted in Jamil: Child of Light.”

On Saturday, March 16, Bishop Savoy read from The Prophecies of Jamil: Prophecy on the Golden Age of Light and the Nation of Nations. The Candle of Remembrance was also lit during the Communion of Fellowship Service on that day.

Additional celebrations and observances will be held throughout the year, specifically during this year’s Annual Convocation (September 3rd-8th, 2019), which will include readings of the 25th, 26th and 27th Sayings of Jamil — never before published . Discussion of these Sayings will be recorded and compiled in order to help complete the seventh and final volume of The Secret Sayings of Jamil , which is planned to be published later this year.

On the evening of January 5th, Epiphany Eve in the Second Advent Calendar, resident members of the Community, their families, and guests, were invited to the Rectory-Abbey by Bishop Gene Savoy to celebrate the holiday with dinner and a visit from Santa Claus. Nearly seventy guests gathered in the great room at the Rectory for the event. Some of the action was captured in photos by attendees, and the Communique staff put together a gallery of these photos for your enjoyment.

Consociate Shawn Smith visits Community Center

The staff of the International Community of Christ was graced with the visit of a Consociate from Cameroon, Africa, the Reverend Doctor Shawn Smith, November 7th-8th.

Although Shawn spent only a day and a half in Reno, during his short visit he was able to tour both the Red Rock Consecrated Sanctuary, and there meet Sanctuary caretakers and residents, and the Steamboat Healing Center, as well as meet several staff members over dinner at the Rectory-Abbey.

Shawn made his visit while Bishop Gene Savoy Jr. was traveling in Peru, and so he was unable to meet him. However, Shawn did bring a gift from Africa honoring Bishop Gene as the spiritual leader of the Community. (See photo.)

Rev. Dr. Smith explained the significance of his gift in a recent email to the Center:

It was my utmost joy to present to the Ordained of the International Community of Christ in Reno, Nevada, a gift representative of Cameroon at large and of the Bamileke in particular, to hand to the Bishop Right Rev. Gene Savoy Jr. on my behalf.

The Bamileke are native to Cameroon, settled predominantly in the West region, divided into eight major clans. Their traditions, which have been reverently preserved, can be historically traced for hundreds of years, but claim their origin from a time when there was a common exchange between the Dogon, Yoruba, and other prominent groups on the continent.

With the arrival of colonialism, most of the Bamileke outwardly converted to Christianity or Islam, but secretly held to their spiritual practices. Their Chief is the spiritual, politicaland military leader known as the “Fon.” His delegates and advisors are men of noble descent, initiated into the “mysteries” known as the “Kamveu.”

The traditional garb which I had the privilege to present is what the Kamveu wear when going behind a sacred curtain known as the “Ndop” to perform their practice veiled from “outsiders.”
My mother, being Bamileke, was able to obtain this on my behalf on the occasion of my visit, since it is to be presented to a great teacher of spiritual power. Each garb is hand made with particular symbols known particularly to those initiated within the “mysteries.”

It is with gratitude that offer this gift, to represent my hope that the people groups of Africa will also come appreciate what I am learning in the System of Cosolargy.

Gary Buchanan Speaks at 7th International Globe Sound Healing Conference

Gary Buchanan presents at Globe Sound Healing Conference in 2018

Follow this link to pages on the intention, presenters, exhibits, and workshops held at the 7th International Globe Sound Healing Conference: https://soundhealingcenter.com/conference/

Reverend Canon Gary Buchanan presented on Sunday, October 7th at the 7th International Globe Sound Healing Conference held October 6 – 8, 2018 at Temple Congregation Sherith in San Francisco. Reverend Buchanan presented primarily on Sonatherapy, but spoke a bit on Cosolargy and the Steamboat Healing Center and Spa as well.

Gary demonstrates the applicators with various sound frequencies on a member of the audience. About 50 people were in attendance.

There are two primary intentions of the sound healing conferences sponsored by the Globe Sound and Consciousness Institute:
(1) to raise consciousness and bring people into higher states of awareness more consistently by disseminating techniques and information and with experiential exercises to actually go into these states.
(2) to bring sound healing into mainstream homes and hospitals and gain more acceptance by helping the public to understand the science and effectiveness behind sound healing and by providing a venue for sound practitioners, the public and the medical community to meet and form connections and alliances.

The 7th International Globe Sound Healing Conference was held October 6 – 8, 2018 at Temple Congregation Sherith in San Francisco, one of the oldest Jewish synagogues in California. The Jewish congregation that built the synagogue was formed in 1850. The building was erected in 1904/05 and survived the great San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906.

This year’s conference was held in Spectacular Temple Congregation Sherith – 2266 California Street, San Francisco
