WEEKLY MESSAGE: January 2, 2018

HEAD OVERSEER’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

January 2, 2018

Happy new year to you on this 9th day of Christmas! I hope you are enjoying the holiday season and partaking of the many blessings bestowed at this special time of the year. We have been experiencing many beautiful sunrises at the Sanctuary and feeling and experiencing the serene power manifest within the Sun.

I write to you today regarding a very interesting opportunity that has just been offered to us in the past several days. You are aware of the importance of our work in Peru since 1957 continuing into the 21st century. I need not remind you of my father’s ministry which began there in 1959; the years with The Child, Jamil; and the many, many expeditions and discoveries made over the past 60 years to uncover ancient solar civilizations and teachings .

You are also aware of The Community’s dispute with renegades who desire to strip us of our historical legacy and work and the legal battle that we have been engaged in to uphold our intellectual, property and other rights. We hope to have closure on these matters by Spring.

For several years, it has been my desire to re-establish The Community in Peru and to also potentially gain some sort of a presence in Chachapoyas – the city and region of Peru named after that great and mighty civilization sometimes referred to as the “Cloud People.” As we know, the Chachapoyas were one of the great advanced peoples of Peru, one which my father shed much light on during his explorations of the region and the discoveries of Gran Vilaya and Gran Saposoa, most notably.

A Peruvian friend and associate of mine whom I have known for 25 years here in Reno recently decided to relocate back to his native country. He has offered his services to help us in re-establishing relationships with Peruvians (including the government) and others who might be interested in promoting our work. Indeed, there is a prominent businessman/investor who may, and I stress may, be interested in helping us with a potential opportunity in Chachapoyas. It is too early to discuss anything in detail right now, but they have offered me an opportunity to go to Lima and Chachapoyas with them at the middle of this month.

However, I must ask for your assistance in getting there. I plan on leaving Reno on January 15th for one week. I will have the opportunity to meet with an attorney on the ins- and-outs of establishing ourselves legally in Peru. I will also travel to Chachapoyas and test the waters, so to speak, to evaluate what our opportunities are there, if any. In essence, this is a scouting expedition.

I am asking for your pledge to facilitate my trip. I need to raise $3500, $2000 of which is for airlines and hotels. Due to the short notice, I fully understand if you are unable to make your contribution now. Nevertheless, your pledge will be most helpful. Please expect a call from one of us soon. Or, if it’s easier, please feel free to call the Chancellery yourself and make your pledge/donation. Of course, as always, make your tax-deductible donation directly to the Church.

I don’t know where this trip will lead us, but I think it might be worth the effort to find out. I thank you in advance for your support and interest in our upcoming expedition to Peru! Please enjoy the remainder of the Christmas/Epiphany Season.

Once again, please feel free to ask me any questions by calling 775-786-7432 or emailing me at messages@cosolargy.org. I am always at your service.

WEEKLY MESSAGE: December 26, 2017

HEAD OVERSEER’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

December 26, 2017

On this second day of the Christmas/Epiphany Season, I would like to share with you my homily given during yesterday’s Christmas Day Service of Communion, Candle Lighting and Remembrance:

“Good morning and merry Christmas. We are going to deviate a little from our traditional and customary Christmas message, which is important and meaningful and which we have added to throughout the years, and do something a little different this year.

“We see a lot of Darkness in the world, and it seems that there is little Light. But, that is not true. The Gospel of John (1:5) tells us, ‘And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.’ It is important for us to remember, those of us gathered together here this morning who are dedicated to God’s service, that these are the birth pangs of a new world coming into being — God’s world, a coming world of Light when all will be transformed into Light. And, although we were drawn together from many faiths and various traditions, we are all one in the family of God, especially in His New Advent, which is the fulfillment of the coming of the Sun of Righteousness.

“Today, we come together to celebrate the birthday and the life of Jesus Christ. And for twelve days, we of the Second Advent Church Community, celebrate and observe the Christmas season, which culminates on the thirteenth day, the Day of Epiphany, on January 6. We know that Jesus was not born on the 25th of December, but that is not important. What is more important is what we celebrate during this Season.

“We know the word epiphany comes from the Greek, meaning manifestation or appearance, and in the early Church, January 6 was the day that commemorated Jesus’s baptism at the Jordan by St. John. The day celebrated the shining forth or the revelation of God in human form in the person of Jesus Christ, his manifestation as the Son of God to the world. That means that the Word of God incarnated in him. The date of Epiphany was very early fixed in the ancient church, and the old liturgies speak of “illumination,” “manifestation,” and “declaration.”

“The Gospel of Matthew says, ‘Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John would have prevented him and said, I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me? But Jesus answered, saying, Let it be so, for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill righteousness. And then John consented. And when Jesus had been baptized, as he came up from the water, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove upon him. And a voice from heaven said, This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.’ The Gospel of Luke also says, ‘Now, when all the people were baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized, the heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form, and a voice came from heaven, You are my Son, and with you I am well pleased.’

“Other biblical scriptures also help to shed light on this statement. For instance, in the book of Acts, it says, ‘You are my Son; today I have begotten you.’ And in the Letter to the Hebrews, similarly, ‘For to which of the angels did God ever say, you are my Son; today I have begotten you.’ So if we insert these lines from Acts and Hebrews, which have their roots in the ancient hymnal of Israel’s Psalms, we discern that you are my Son, with whom I am well pleased; today I have begotten you and this was on the day of January 6.

“Now, in the ancient Christian Church, just as in Buddhism, this divine event – this appearance or epiphany – was a manifestation of Jesus’s immortal spiritual nature. The day commemorated the manifestation of Jesus as the Christ, the moment when God appeared in His divine Light and ordained Jesus His Son. Thus Jesus was given a new birth. So we know that Jesus was not born the Son of God but indeed became and was declared the Son of God when the divine Logos, the Word, incarnated within him, giving him a new life of spirit. And this was a fundamental concept in the Messianic Church that Jesus had become the Christ. And this is why Epiphany, and the Christmas/Epiphany season is so important to us in the Second Advent Community, because it represents and symbolizes the birth of spirit; the birth of our spirits, which is the epiphany and the illumination of the reborn, conscious Soul.

“This is very similar in Buddhism, as I mentioned a moment ago, where, in Buddhism, they celebrate the birthday of Siddhartha on April 8, but the day of his enlightenment is on December 8, when he became the Enlightened One, the Awakened One, at sunrise.

“So we honor the birth of the man Jesus on December 25, which was at a period of the year when several Roman festivals were observed: the Winter solstice; Saturnalia, a time of merrymaking and the exchange of gifts; as well as the birth of Mithra. But it was also the festival of the Birth of the Unconquered Sun, the Natalis Sol Invictus. Linking Jesus to the Sun was supported in early times by various Biblical passages, including Malachi’s reference to the “sun of Righteousness.” And, of course, John describes Jesus as “the light of the world.”

“Such solar symbolism indeed supports more than one date of birth. In the year 243, a work known as De Pascha Computus linked the notion that God’s Creation began at the Spring equinox, on March 25 with the conception or birth of the cosmic Sun according to the Genesis account. In early times, it was debated if Jesus was born at this time – March 28. One writer says, ‘O the splendid and divine providence of the Lord that on that day, the very day on which the sun was made, March 28, a Wednesday, that Christ should be born.’ It continues to say, ‘For this reason, Malachi, the prophet, speaking [about him] to the people, fittingly said “‘Unto you that revere my name shall the sun of Righteousness arise with healing in its wings.’” In 200 CE, Clement of Alexandria even hypothesized the birth dates as being March 21 or between April 15 – 21.

“So, importantly, we celebrate the spiritual birth. The day when the Word of God entered into Jesus, and he assumed the Office of Christ. And this we do on January 6 as a promise of the spiritual birth – the rebirth, that we are all heir to in the Second Advent of God’s Appearance.

“We know that in ancient Greece an epiphany of a divine person was a common concept among the priests. The celebration of Epiphany originated in that ancient Church, and you all know the history: There was a dispute between the Eastern Church and the Western Church, and eventually, December 25, which as I said was the old Roman festival of the Unconquered Sun, which celebrated the winter solstice and the lengthening of days, became Christmas. The festival was placed on the day of December 25 because it was in the Roman calendar the day the sun reversed its southward retreat and proved itself to be unconquered.

“Many celebrations are held at this time of the year. Northern Europeans celebrated Yule late in December and also in early January. There was a festival from November 28 to January 6 that was observed as the festivals of lights, the birth of the Cosmic Christ. We know that the Japanese honor the sun god on December 22. And in ancient Egypt, from December 21 to December 25 was the festival commemorating the birth of the god Horus. Native Americans celebrated December as a time of purification and renewal, as do Hindus, who celebrate their festival of lights in the early part of December. So we see that this is a time that is universally recognized, when we come out of darkness and into light.

“The message of this season is life of spirit; and that was the essence of Christ’s teaching. And that is what this period of time represents: life, birth and rebirth, which is the cycle of spiritual renewal. This time of year also represents goodwill, friendship, generosity, joy and happiness. Let us not forget these valuable attributes.

“I would like to emphasize at this particular time for us not to be consumed by commercialism of the season. This is a time to spend with family and friends, whom we often forget. So I encourage you all to bear that in mind. Our Community is what is most important – our true Family — and along with the Sun of Righteousness. That is the largest gift we have.

“We were reading from the Odes of Solomon earlier, and the message was love. Let me read these words from the Odes of Solomon which talk about the feeding or the nourishment of our spiritual bodies. This is Ode 38:

‘I rested in the Spirit of the Lord and the Spirit raised me on high and made me stand on my feet in the height of the Lord before His perfection and His glory while I was praising him by the composition of his songs. The Spirit brought me forth before the Face of the Lord, and although I was a son of man, I was named the Illuminate, a son of God. For according to the greatness of the Most High, so He made me. And like His own newness, He renewed me, and he anointed me with His perfection. And I became one of His neighbors, and my mouth was opened like a cloud of dew, and my heart poured out, as it were, a gushing stream of righteousness, and my access to Him was in peace, and I was established by the spirit of His Kingdom. And I went up to the Light of Truth, which preserved me, and He became to me a haven of salvation and set me in the arms of immortal life.’

“I believe that this scripture conveys the message of the Christmas season. So let us renew our commitment to each other, which is to love one another, to forgive the transgressions of those we love, and to make whatever amends may be needed. And that, once again, is the Teaching of Christ. If each of us can accomplish this, then we truly exemplify Christ in our daily lives. As it has been recorded in the Gospels, ‘Love one another as I have loved you.’ And that is our mission. That is also the Teaching of the Holy Child Jamil. Thus, with understanding, we exemplify the Light and we are on the path of Christ. And that is the message of this Community: That it matters not who you are or where you came from, but that if you are of the Light, then you will be one with the Light. And this is the promise of the Second Advent.

“So with that in mind, I wish you all very merry Christmas. I look forward to seeing you throughout our Christmas/Epiphany season, and wish you all the best for the new year, which I hope will be filled with God’s many bountiful and beautiful blessings.”

“In conclusion, please remember that these days are days of special blessing. As we here in Reno gather each morning at the Sanctuary through the morning of Epiphany, I encourage you also to reflect and join with is in our communion with the Sun of Righteousness. God bless you.”

2017 Interfaith Thanksgiving Eve Service Held

This year marked the 32nd annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Eve Service. The performance of this interfaith service is a much-revered tradition in the Northern Nevada community and one that is largely unique nationwide in its scope of faith diversity.

This year’s service, titled “The Doctrine of Inclusion,” was held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 7 p.m. It was hosted by Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sparks, Nevada. Elder Ren Johasan of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints delivered the keynote address. Monetary donations gathered were given to the 2018 NIA Youth Conference. Food donations were used to feed the hungry through the St. Francis of Assissi Food Pantry.

This worship service of prayers, readings and music from a variety of faith traditions was organized by the coordinating council of the Nevada Interfaith Organization, the renamed Nevada Clergy Association, of which Bishop Gene Savoy Jr. was president until this year. Bishop Savoy presented the “Thanksgiving Hymn” from the Dead Sea Scrolls as part of the program.

Also in attendance from the Second Advent Church were Radheka Patel Savoy, Claudia Grady, and Noriko, Joseph and Robert Roy.

WEEKLY MESSAGE: December 20, 2017

HEAD OVERSEER’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

December 20, 2017

Last week, I touched on the concept of judgement for the unrighteous and ungodly of the world. This week, let’s talk about the opposite: the judgement of the righteous and the good.

We teach that God, in His supreme grandeur and greatness, has sent into the Universe the Sun of Righteousness which sheds redeeming Light which everyone everywhere can participate in. The sign of the Sun of Righteousness is the Cross of Enlightenment, the Messianic or Christ Force. Both, the Sun and the Cross, are heavenly forces which no one can change or alter as has been done in the past with the teachings of Holy Ones and Prophets of God, such as Jesus. No one can escape the coming Judgement by the Great Light.

People have always asked why God allows suffering, illness and death in the world. But we of this Community know that it is not God who causes this grief, but the acts of arrogant and rebellious Angels who ignored the Law of God. God is so vast in His Greatness and Power that no mind can comprehend that greatness and power. He is above the limitations of personality.

People, more often than not, judge God or discard and disregard Him altogether. Again, these are the rebellious and arrogant who choose to break the laws laid down by former generations of the Holy, yet they do not understand the results of their actions. The grand and noble Teachings of Holy Ones of times past have been belittled by the world and made almost childlike in their simplicity. But I dare say that to keep God’s laws demands all of man and woman’s wisdom and energies. It is not necessarily a matter of “thou shalt not” do this or that, but rather by the living of God’s commandments. This is the dedication of a lifetime.

God’s commandments and laws are not known or understood by ignorant minds. They are only understood by those who have evolved by the Grace of God’s redeeming Light and who have communion with the Angelic Beings and the Worlds of Light. It is not by force that we understand God’s ordinances, but rather by understanding and by love that the wise acknowledge and obey God. Those who do so are the righteous and the goodly who, with love and understanding and wisdom, receive a blessing from the Light, rather than a curse.

Therefore, it is by our own free will and actions that results in the judgement determined. We determine the result. A sane person would no more break God’s laws than throw himself off a high building. For to do so will result in certain pain and suffering and even death. It is not God’s judgement that results in this suffering, pain or death, but the breaking of an immutable law. Why blame God when the results of wrongdoing are self evident?

Jamil came as the Messenger of God to announce to all men and women everywhere the new conditions prevailing in the world and what course to take. Jesus predicted the New Advent and the Comforter to come. The righteous and goodly have but to understand the new condition and generate the necessary wisdom to work within it in order to reap the benefits.

For thousands of years people have awaited the coming of this New Age and the accompanying Sun of Righteousness. This promise has been fulfilled in our messianic time. It has come as a result of much labor and service by holy men and women or former generations in all parts of the world from every great religion. It has come at the completion of a grand cycle when the sun of our solar system has passed into a favorable position in the universe of space and time. By this, God has been able to and will continue to reach the minds, hearts and spirits of righteous and goodly men and women who have for so long lived in a most unfavorable environment.

Therefore, the judgement of the goodly who acknowledge the coming of Christ into the world through the Sun of Righteousness is everlasting life with God. And this salvation comes directly from God through the grace of His redeeming Light and not by any other means – neither by blind obedience to former laws, nor by sacrifice, nor by the shedding of the blood of His Son.

I believe this is an appropriate message as we enter the Christmas-Epiphany Season. I send you my best personal wishes for a happy, joyous and blessed Christmas.

Once again, please feel free to ask me any questions by calling 775-786-7432 or emailing me at messages@cosolargy.org. I am always at your service.
