Volume II of The Image and The Word (Codex V), which contains the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth of The Secret Sayings of Jamil, is 120 pages in length. The Tenth Saying itself is 80 of those 120 pages, so it will take us several weeks to review the Tenth Saying. I will most likely abridge portions of it. Please remember that these Sayings are cryptic in that the more advanced one is in The System, the more the individual will comprehend of their “secret” messages. Let us begin.
The Tenth Saying (Part 1)
“And within the space of two years from his giving of the first Secret Sayings of Jamil, The Man did depart from the Andes of Peru and returned to the country of his birth. The final months before his departure had been filled with sadness. He had striven to keep the Teachings pure, wishing to entrust them only to those who loved them as he did. Many had abandoned the Teachings, as has been prophesied by The Child. When they did so, The Man shook his head in disbelief. And he would meditate on the ways of man in the sun temples and other sanctuaries of the hidden cities wherein he had sought refuge away from the world. Here he had felt close to The Child. He loved to trod the rocky soil that bore the footsteps of the innocent child. Often he could hear his laughter being carried by the wind, or see his face reflected in the still waters of a pool. Or he would feel the soft touch of The Child’s hand tugging gently at the folds of his long poncho. At other times he could feel the soft breath of Jamil on his neck as he had when he held him in his arms. Everywhere The Man felt the presence of The Child.
“The thought of leaving this sacred world fashioned of fond memories was painful. For The Man was content to live alone in the Andes. But in his heart he knew it was time for him to fulfill the prophecies. The Teachings entrusted into his care by The Child Jamil, prophet and messenger of God, were not his to use alone, but for all of mankind.
“So he had returned to America seeking new disciples of The Way and fellow Companions of Light.
“And The Man did gather about him many followers. And he instructed them in the teachings of the new Religion of Light. And he did build a Community of enlightened men and women who listened to the wisdom of the Word of God come in the Messianic Sun. And he stressed unity of the Order, and the need of illuminated souls to free the world from Darkness. He taught them how to imitate the Holy Child in his goodness and love of living things. And he taught for six years.
“And in the sixteenth year of the Great Work The Man did set sail in a ship, with sails the color of the clouds, with Companions of Light. This was the eighth year following his voyage in the first ship. For The Man was moved to accomplish all those things according to the prophecies given by The Child.
“And after voyaging many months the Ship of Light came to the isle of Curacao. And The Man gathered together the seafarers on the deck of the ship saying, ‘You good and righteous men of the Community have left your homeland to sail with me to faraway places so you may learn how to live in harmony with the Image and the Word of God manifest in the Sun of Righteousness. Your dedication is the first step required of all those who would understand the Teachings.
“‘During the voyage you will be shaken as a tree standing in a strong wind. And if the blossoms of that tree be securely fastened to the branches thereof, they shall not fall to the ground. If the tree is to bear good fruit and lift its upper branches to the sun for light and strength, it must-needs have strong roots. Only in this way can it stand straight and tall.
“‘You are the bearers of good fruit . And this fruit shall nourish the family of man.
“‘As I learned from my many years in the temples of the Andes, isolated from civilization and its worldly ways, you also shall learn on this ship how to break the hold of the world which binds men as with chains of iron.’
“And some days later the ship was at sea. And again The Man spoke to them of the need to listen to the voice of God speaking in nature, and of how they must learn to build inner strength and to depend upon one another. And he said unto them, ‘To gain your freedom will require many years of separation from all those things to which you are accustomed – even separation from loved ones. Only by wandering as did the ancients will you break the hold of the world which enslaves. A true Teacher of Light must, above all else, be a free soul whose spirit is rooted in God.’
“And he asked them if they would continue the voyage with him. And all the seafarers answered that they would.
“And in the days that followed they observed that birds followed the ship out to sea. And the mariners held out their hands to the birds and they came to the men in a most friendly manner. And the skies were blessed with rainbows and yellow butterflies.
“At night the heavens were filled with lights and falling stars. And they saw moonbows arched across the firmament.
“And the ship passed through strong winds and heavy seas. And the sun beat down upon them. But the men were of good cheer for they were of a single heart. And God’s hand was upon the Ship of Light.
“And on the hundred and fifty-fourth day after having set sail from America, The Man spoke for the third time to the mariners saying, ‘This night I rededicated my entire mind, body and soul to God for the establishment of The Community.’ And he asked each if they would pledge themselves to this end. And each pledged to do so. And again he reminded them that only by complete dedication and unity under God could the Community hope to build the Temple of Light by which to teach men of all lands how to prepare the world for a new creation.
“After saying this The Man talked to them of Jamil. And they asked him to reveal some secret sayings of the Child that they might benefit. And The Man answered that he would.
“And so it was that The Man agreed to give the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Sayings to them in the days ahead.
“And when the Ship of Light left the Atlantic ocean and passed through the canal at the isthmus of Panama and entered the Pacific side, The Man called the men together at noontide on the twenty-seventh day of November.
“And they celebrated a communion aboard ship taking bread and water as was their custom. And after each broke bread and took a cup of water The Man bowed his head saying, ‘We break bread and take water together in fellowship, in memory of the ancients who inaugurated the ceremony as a rite of peace and brotherhood to honor the holy teachers of times past. We ask that God endow this bread, which symbolizes the Messianic Sun, and the water, which symbolizes the redeeming Light from the Sun thereof, with a very special blessing to nourish and sustain our minds, and our bodies, with the strength to do His will, as the Sun of Righteousness and the Light thereof have been filled with His Word which nourishes our spirits and illuminates our consciousness. In God’s name, we Companions of the Way, on this Ship of Light, dedicate ourselves to the Teachings. Amen.’
“Having finished the prayer The Man laid the white mantle beside him and placed the sacred girdle of sacred stones on the table. And after making himself comfortable he spoke to them saying, ‘I shall reveal to you the Tenth, the Eleventh, and the Twelfth Sayings of Jamil, entrusted into my care, which I now entrust into your care, my beloved Companions of Light and Fellows in the Teachings. As is our custom, we will discuss the Sayings at the end of each reading.’
“And he removed some loose-leaf pages from his alforja and began to read.”
So here we must know a little bit about the history of The Community in order to place certain events. The Great Work begins in 1962 following the events of February 2 – 6. “Thereafter, The Man began the Great Work east of the Andes.” (Jamil, Child of Light) These days mark the beginning of the Second Advent calendar.
Volume I of the Image and the Word, which contain the first nine Sayings, say that The Man wandered “for eight years in the Andes of Peru as The Child instructed him to do.” This is the period between 1962 and 1970 when significant archaeological discoveries were made by The Man and the Feathered Serpent I –the first Ship of Light – was sailed in 1969 to prove ancient connections between Peru and Mexico. I will not elaborate here how significant this period of time was except to say that the explorations are intrinsically tied to Prophecy, the Teaching, and the Great Work.
We can deduce, therefore, that the first nine Sayings were given around the first of July 1970. You may recall that Volume I mentions that the Companions were in Cajamarca for the Inti Raymi festival and then traveled seven days to cross the Marañón River to the east. (The Inti Raymi was the Incan festival of the Sun at the Winter Solstice and marked the beginning of their new year. The third and last day of the festival typically falls on June 24.)
As for this Saying – the Tenth Saying – it says, “And within the space of two years from his giving of the first Secret Sayings of Jamil, The Man did depart from the Andes of Peru and returned to the country of his birth.” This is 1972 when The Community relocated to Reno. The book further states that in the 16th year of the Great Work, The Man set sail in a ship with the Companions of Light. This references the Feathered Serpent II – the second Ship of Light – which sailed in 1977, eight years following the sailing of the first Ship of Light.
Next week, we will share the Tenth Saying with commentary.
