WEEKLY MESSAGE: November 18, 2020

HEAD OVERSEER’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

November 18, 2020

Let’s resume the commentary from last week.

The Seventeenth Saying (Part 2)

And The Man continued to say to the Companions of the Way:

“‘As adepts we look at the physical sun, believing we can bring about its cure. We do it not by focusing on the physical sun but on the spiritual Sun of Righteousness. We do this not by means of our mind, will, or emotions but by a developed spiritual Consciousness. This is to say that an adept who has learned to apply the formulas and rites in the proper way can influence the spiritual Sun and have a positive effect on the material sun, whereas secular persons would only contribute to the death of the material sun by infecting it with their negative and materialistic thoughts, thus resulting in the death of the planet.

“‘Spiritual solar adepts are cognizant of the spiritual Sun behind the physical sun, and of the True Earth as it exists in its original form, not just of what is perceived by the perceptory senses, or of that which is registered by the mind and emotions.

“‘Secular scientists account material phenomena and discount spiritual phenomena. They look at the result as opposed to the source, to the effect as opposed to the cause. They judge the solar system by what they perceive with their senses or by means of their instruments or machines. Secular science is just what its name implies – material science. The sun nourishes the solar system with energy in its diverse forms. Scientists look at this energy as a source of energy to be applied in a practical manner. They do not acknowledge the existence of an intelligence within that energy. When they use energy they discount this intelligence factor and the laws governing it. We, of this religion, being spiritual scientists, consider that the sun is a source of intelligence or information – this was recognized in ancient days by the Greeks, Romans, Persians, Chinese, Indians, Mexicans, Peruvians, and peoples of many other cultures who recognized and conceived the sun to be a living being with an intelligence as opposed to an inanimate object, such as a ball of fire, and that the human race with all of creation evolved by this solar intelligence and by the Intelligence of God.

“‘All living things on the planet are influenced by the intelligence of the living sun and the planet, and these intelligences are stronger than their own. This concept clashes with the modern world’s idea that every person possesses free will. So the cosmos, being filled with energy radiated by the sun and star systems, holds sway over the sensible world and the intelligible world, to use the old Roman terminology, by the intelligence factors within the energy or radiation. The cosmos is a material dimension which is governed by energy and radiation. The material world is governed by the radiation and intelligence of the sun in the same way the physical sun receives its energy and intelligence from other suns or star systems. Thus, when we consider the material universe, we must consider that it is more extensive than the small globe we call Earth. Our planet Earth represents only a small part, an insignificant part, of what constitutes the material universe. The material universe is endless if perceived by the senses. If measured by the perceptory senses or studied by the mind it cannot be finite because it has had no beginning and therefore can have no end. Thus, the material universe is beyond the logical or rational mind. The cosmos has no beginning or end for us because we cannot perceive this beginning or end; it is beyond our capacity to do so. If scientists were to examine the end of the universe, that point where it appears to end, that ending would be a beginning because light expands out in all directions at a speed faster than our senses can perceive it. For this reason, the material universe cannot be measured or even understood by a materialistic science that excludes the origin and very nature of the universe.’”

WEEKLY MESSAGE: November 13, 2020

HEAD OVERSEER’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

November 13, 2020

Unlike the Sixteenth Saying of Jamil, the Seventeenth Saying is quite lengthy. However, it continues the theme of the Sixteenth Saying, which is that the material sun is diseased and needs to be healed and that this cure can only be undertaken by members of our spiritual Order. As I was reviewing my father’s personal copy of the text, I noted that it was heavily marked and numbered in his own hand which indicates to me the importance of this Saying and its commentary.

Incidentally, I was asked this week from a member of The Community about the dark state of the world and of the United States in particular and what role our Church, the True Church of Christ, plays at this time. I think when we are done reviewing the Seventeenth Saying in its entirety, the answer to that question will be clearer.

The Seventeenth Saying (Part 1)

After a short pause, The Man took the second scroll in hand and, loosening the ribbon that tied it, began to read.

“And these are the words of the Seventeenth Saying:

The health of the material sun is dependent upon the thoughts and actions of the family of mankind. If the sun is diseased. it is because the races and the nations of the world have contributed to its ill health. For the sun, too, is a living thing. Its cure remains within the power of the righteous members of the Order.

Let this truth be kept unto the Order, for it is the healing of the sun that should concern members and not the speaking of it which is of little avail.

Only the dedication of the ordained can restore the sun to health by use of the secret formulas I have entrusted into your care.

“With this reading, The Man put away the second scroll as he had the first. And the men fell into an open discussion of the Sayings. But when the sea freshened under a stiff breeze, The Man had them hoist the anchor, instructing them to return the ship to its berth before the setting of the sun. He promised to speak more of the Sayings on the morrow.

“And a second rainbow, more splendorous than the first, formed in the heavens against a background of billowing clouds that rolled down upon the sea from the mountain heights.

“When the anchor was weighed, they made sail, making for the marina. And when they ran the vessel into Honolulu Channel and entered the harbor on the south side of Sand Island, away from the boiling sea, shafts of light cast by the setting sun illuminated the mountains. Then the sun sank into the blue sea, radiating a burst of emerald green. “Once in port, The Man and The Mariners returned to the company of the Companions of Light.

“And on the day following, The Man, seeing the weather to be unfavorable, went in company with The Mariners to Aiea Heights overlooking Pearl Harbor to an ancient temple once used by the Kahuna priests of old for healing. And when they had seated themselves among the broken stones under the spreading canopy of a creeping and twisted Hau tree of heart-shaped leaves, one of The Mariners, the first to present a question on the Sixteenth Saying, besought him saying, ‘If the death of the planet is inevitable unless the sun be cured, when will the signs manifest in our space-time?’

“And The Man answered him and said, ‘This Keaiwa Heiau, or healing temple, was built ages ago in the time of Kakuhihewa. It was administered by the Kahuna, Lappaa Keaiwa, a learned medical priest who possessed mysterious healing powers when used in conjunction with the various healing plants of the kind you see growing on these sacred grounds. Even as this temple is now a ruin due to the loss of the arts and knowledge of the priests, so is the world in a state of decay, for Man has lost sight of the religious arts and sciences held sacred by priests ordained by God to possess them. From this we learn that everything in life has a season.

“All the great world religions have prophesied that at the end times, or at the end of the age, the earth would be destroyed by fire. The destruction of the earth by fire would have its origin in the sun; for if the sun were to die it would experience increased temperature which would destroy the earth in the process.

“According to scientific observation, the sun has become unstable. The expected life of the sun is undetermined. The sun could live for billions, or millions, or thousands of years, or it could die tomorrow. Those of us who have been viewing the face of the sun for decades would say that the sun has become unstable in civilized areas of the world. The sun is very sharp and harsh and difficult to look at in metropolitan centers, while at isolated areas of the earth, such as islands of the seas, jungles, mountains and deserts, the reverse is true. Thus, where there are materialistic people or populated areas, there exists a negative field that affects the sun and, consequently, the earth with harmful results.

“We know that the human mind can affect the sun. Therefore, as Man becomes more materialistic, as religion becomes more helpless to combat the materialism of the earth, the process leading to the sun’s end might be speeded up. Considering these facts, it could happen very quickly, throwing the ecosystem of the sun and earth into chaos.’

“Another Mariner, the second to speak, asked, ‘Could we compare that process prophesied by Jamil, the sun’s extinction or material destruction, to that of a nova or a supernova explosion – that is, the sun increasing in brightness to several times its normal magnitude?’ And The Man affirmed that the secular, scientific explanation of the death of a star could be applied to our own sun.

“And a third Mariner spoke asking, ‘According to the previous prophecies of Jamil, it is the ultimate destiny of the planet to become a fiery orb, as the sun. Naturally, this would spell the end of sentient life as we know it in the material world. Now, how does the fact that the sun is diseased relate to the ultimate destiny of the planet?’

“The Man pondered this question for a moment and then said, ‘If the sun were to increase in brilliance and, consequently, heat, destroying the earth in the process, the earth would end materially. On the other hand, if the earth were to be transformed into a sun by a different process, we would have something else to consider. For example, if the earth were destroyed by the heat of a dying sun, we have a negative event. But, if the earth were to be transformed into a sun by a supernatural process or event, then we have a positive event. The first is to be likened unto death, the second unto life.”

We will continue this theme next week.

Again, if I may be of any personal service to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Very truly yours in Light+,

Gene

WEEKLY MESSAGE: November 2, 2020

HEAD OVERSEER’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

November 2, 2020

As you have probably heard by now, our Sister in Light, the Reverend Mother Carol Ann Crabb, passed out of this world on Saturday, October 24, 2020 while were all gathered in the Chapel of the Holy Child remembering and honoring the late Reverend Canon Dr. Gary Buchanan. Many of us found the timing very interesting and surely not coincidental. Someone mentioned (symbolically, of course) that Gary was offering his hand and helping Carol Ann up to Heaven.

I had a special relationship with Carol Ann. She joined The Community in 1973 and moved to Reno a year later in 1974 when I was three years old. When The Community purchased the Rectory on Carmel in 1976, Carol Ann became part of the household and was important in helping my father with his research not only as his personal librarian and research assistant but also as the librarian for the Jamilian University of the Ordained. She was one of the very special people who was instrumental in my upbringing and was one of my teachers at the Jamilian Parochial School.

When Carol Ann married the late Reverend Lawson Van Buren Crabb in the 1990’s, she left the Rectory to reside with Lawson at Steamboat Hot Springs. Lawson was a great friend to those of us who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a gentleman of the American South and a major benefactor of this Community. Some years after Lawson’s passing, Carol Ann relocated to the Chapter House at the Red Rock Consecrated Sanctuary where she lived until very recently.

I am including the obituary that appeared in yesterday’s newspaper for your review. Please note that we are asking for your help in defraying some of the costs associated with Carol Ann’s passing. Please make your contribution to this special cause. Any remaining funds will be combined with gifts received for Gary and will go towards purchasing trees that will be planted at the Sanctuary in their memory. The memorial service for Carol Ann will be held in the Chapel of the Holy Child this Saturday, November 7th.

WEEKLY MESSAGE: October 29, 2020

HEAD OVERSEER’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

October 29, 2020

Hello. In continuing our review of The Secret Sayings of Jamil from The Image and the Word series, we move on to The Sixteenth Saying, which is relatively short.

The Sixteenth Saying

“And the Companions of the Way, those in the Islands and others from The Community, waited on the shores for The Man and his ship to appear out of the sea.

“And on the third day of June, 1979, the Day of Pentecost, after a voyage of twenty-two days, the Ship of Light reached the Islands. And it was with great joy that The Man and the Seafarers were received in their midst. And they celebrated with the Islanders, exchanging gifts and bringing good cheer to each other.

“And on the tenth day after their arrival, The Man with The Mariners left their companions and island friends to return to the ship, for The Man felt the voice of Jamil speaking to his inner Spirit and he would be alone with those who had accompanied him on the voyage.

“And they raised sail, thrusting the hull of the Ship of Light into Honolulu Harbor and set course southeast toward Diamond Head. And when they had six fathoms of water under the keel, the anchor was dropped. The Man instructed the seamen to let her lay there for the afternoon in the idyllic surrounding of tropical verdure and cloudy skies blessed by a majestic rainbow broken into a spectrum of six radiant colors.

“And while the white schooner lay at anchor, rocking gently in the glittering swells of the sea, The Man, as master of the ship, called all hands aft for he would speak to them. And when The Mariners were gathered about him, The Man bowed his head in contemplation and fell silent. After a time, The Man raised his head, and withdrawing two scrolls of white paper from his alforja, as was his custom when revealing the Secret Sayings of Jamil, he pulled away a ribbon that bound one of the scrolls. Unfolding it he spoke saying:

“‘And these are the words of the Sixteenth Saying:

The planet, being a living thing upon which all living creatures, including Man, subsist, by necessity draws its nourishment from the sun, thus revealing that all living bodies in the material universe are dependent and have a life span predetermined by events and circumstances manifest in the cosmos that supports them.

Knowing the transitory nature of material things, and being observers of natural phenomena, let the members of the Order note the unmistakable signs that the material sun is diseased. If this condition is not cured, the result will be the death of the planet and the cessation of all living things in the solar system.

Let the members of the Order keep this secret to themselves.’

“After reading these words. he rolled up the scroll and, replacing it in his Indian-designed cotton bag, fell silent again. And this Saying was given on the seven hundred and eighteenth day after the Ship of Light had sailed from its home port on the mainland of America.”

And that is the Sixteenth Saying.

I ask you to please remember in your prayers the Spirit of our Sister in Light, the Reverend Mother Carol Ann Crabb, who passed away last Saturday, October 24th. Carol Ann passed from this world at the same time we were gathered in the Chapel of the Holy Child remembering and honoring our Brother in Light, Gary Buchanan. Carol Ann now joins her Brother in the Realms of Light.

Again, if I may be of any personal service to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Reverend Canon Gary Buchanan (May 28, 1948 – October 16, 2020) passed away at the age of 72 at his residence at Steamboat Hot Springs in Reno, Nevada in the early morning of October 16, 2020. On October 13th, before his passing, other members of the Sacred Oversee and Gary’s wife, Rev. Canon Amanda Buchanan, were at his side while Rev. Mother Rebecca Willis administered to him the rite of the Anointing of the Sick. Four days later, on the afternoon of October 17th, Bishop Gene Savoy Jr anointed Gary’s remains in company with the members of the Sacred Oversee, his wife Dea. Radheka Savoy, and his daughter Helena Savoy, who held Gary very dear.

A Memorial Service was held to celebrate Gary’s life on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Child. In attendance were members of the Reno Church Community as well as friends and family.

In lieu of a eulogy, Gary’s wife Amanda chose to play a recording of an early musical piece Gary had composed in Australia in memory of the Child Jamil shortly before he moved to Reno to become a member of the resident Community. It is titled “Adagio for the Child.” The piece was written and performed by the orchestra of the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane, Australia in 1976.

Prelude music for the Memorial was an assortment of small ensemble pieces and the “Concerto for Cello and Flute” composed by Gary, as was the piece of music played during the processional, “The Song of Moses.”

The scriptural readings by Bishop Gene Savoy jr and Rev. Canon Robert Petrovich were accompanied by a recording of the piece “Scripturale” by Gary. The closing prayer delivered by Rev. Mother Elizabeth Reece and the benediction of committal read by Rev. Michael McIntyre were accompanied by music of the same name recorded by Gary. And the final blessing and seal of blessing delivered by Bishop Gene Savoy jr were accompanied by a recording of the piece “Hebrew Psalmody” composed and played by Gary.

The recessional music was also a recorded collection of pieces composed and performed by Gary: one movement of the “Age of Light Symphony,” “Bethshemesh,” and “Peruvian Sunrise.”

A celebration of life followed the service at Gary and Amanda’s home on the grounds of Steamboat Hot Springs. The celebration included an outdoor reception and barbeque on the site where Gary and Amanda had hosted many barbeques in years past.
