Comments on the World Peace Conference in Korea

2014-SPM-WARP Summit

The World Alliance of Religions Peace Summit in South Korea that Bishop Gene Savoy and I attended in October was quite impressive. That so many people were gathering in one place with the intention of finding a solution for peace among nations created an atmosphere of tolerance and acceptance between all the various religious faiths that were represented there.

The second day of the conference was the round table discussion. There were five different groups. And it wasn’t really a discussion. It wasn’t a question and answer interaction among those attending. Several of the guest speakers expressed their thoughts as to what might be a solution. But nothing really solid came out of it. In the session that I attended, all the speakers said the same thing and that is: It is going to take a long time.

One of the religious leaders we were introduced to was Dr. Hamid Slimi, a Muslim cleric from Canada. I mention him because he posted a video of the conference on his web site. The footage he took gives a good idea of what it was like there during those days at the summit. I also liked his commentary.

Some very positive things happened as a result of attending this conference. The Bishop has reserved his commentary on that topic for the Counsels lectures during the 2014 Convocation.

I am really grateful for having been given the opportunity to attend the conference and to visit Korea. I was there 40 years ago. The Korean people are just as beautiful now as they were then. I think Dr Hamid expressed it very well in his video.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Light,

For those of you who feel you are destined to reach out and share this Teaching, here is beginning that might help you realize that destiny. We would like you to submit some of your “Experiences in the Sun”—visions, realizations, epiphany events—so we can post them anonymously on the Cosolargy International website. Every single one of you is proof that this System is more dynamic, more real, more phenomenal, than anything else the world has to offer. Everybody in this Community has something to offer in this respect.

I would like all of you to have clear and direct avenues in which you can express your love for this Teaching and bring it to the world. This is a door for you. A place to start. A first step. 2014 Community Calendar Available

2014 2014-SPM-ICC Community Calendar 2014

As a special gift for this time of year, the Church is presently sending out to all active Community members the Community Calendar for 2014.

For practical purposes, the calendar follows the traditional monthly format beginning with January, but it contains all the significant dates of The Community’s Sacred Calendar, which begins on February 2nd (refer to Jamil: Child of Light, chapter 27).

In addition to dates for liturgical observance or remembrance, the moon phases for the year are also included. In relation to these moon phases are indicated days to view sunrise or sunset according to the important Lunar/Solar Cycles Generative Technique familiar to Cosolargists who have advanced through The Cosolargy Papers.

Thanks go to Deacon Dr. Stephan Fuelling for compiling and designing the calendar in consultation with the Publishing, Editing and Liturgical departments and with Bishop Gene. Thanks also go to the Reverend Ben Hubbard, who prints the calendar using our printing system at our production facilities located at the Steamboat Hot Springs.

A suggested donation of $20.00 by active Community members would be greatly appreciated to help defray costs for producing the calendar. Corresponding members may contact the Church offices to request a calendar for the same suggested donation.

Cosolargy Online Pilot Program Ready to Launch December 23, 2013

2013-REP-Cosolargy_online_logo Dear Community Member,

At the General Assembly of Cosolargy meeting on October 2 our technology and business consultants, Empower Consulting Group, introduced those in attendance to the idea of online learning as part of our new global community outreach plan, and at the 4th Annual Conference on the Spiritual State of the World held October 4-6 in Reno, University Chancellor Sean Savoy announced the upcoming launch of the pilot for the first online educational program: Project “X” Course on Ancient Solar Cultures–Level 1.

“This program is being planned to involve not only new methods of teaching Cosolargy and presenting our learning materials online but also new ways of reaching out to the world via the Community’s web sites. Global outreach and online learning will be a new focus as we take our Community further into the digital communication and information age,” said Sean Savoy.

“For The Community, reaching new levels of global outreach is paramount to our future success as an organization with a universal, global Teaching to impart. It is within our mandate to reach people, to take the news of the New Light with its inherent intelligence and information to greater numbers. Using the internet for Community services and programs as well as for our educational programs is quite a complex proposition—but an exciting one.

“We have much work to do as we convert our vast library of educational services and programs, including The Academy, Project ‘X’, and advanced sacred programs in Theology, Divinity and Liturgics.”

Since July, members of the Jamilian University staff have been on the path of creating a test program—our “Pilot Project”—to see how best to present some of the basic solar techniques and theory to new students of Cosolargy. Over the next few weeks, a test group will be introduced to”Week 1″ of the online program, based on Project “X” research into ancient Solar Cultures, specifically, the Solar Teachings of the Americas, and will give us their feedback on its design and function.

In the meantime, we would like to share with you a short presentation that is intended to provide background to the undertaking of the Pilot Project— to give you an understanding of the how and why online education will help us deliver and evolve the Teachings and the body of work of The Community and our founder, Gene Savoy Sr., for the global community. The presentation is delivered by one of our consultants from Empower Consulting Group, Carol Vickers.

< To watch the presentation, please follow this link. >

NOTE: You will be asked to download the presentation, which may take several minutes (depending upon your internet speed). Or you may save it to your Drop Box if you use that program and then watch it from there.

To view the presentation, you will need to have Power Point viewer on your computer. If you do not currently have Power Point, you may download the program by following this link.

(If you have any problems following these instructions, don’t ask me. Speak to a young family member or friend.)

Reno Faith Forum Presents Bishop Savoy’s Words

Gene Savoy Jr. PHOTO: Rebecca Willis

The “Faith Forum” in the Reno Gazette-Journal has been inviting local Reno clergy to present their views on controversial topics for the past two years. Views of major religious denominations as well as secular academics have been posted weekly in this Saturday column since 2011. For the first time in these two years, Bishop Gene Savoy Jr. was invited to present his view alongside those of local Eastern Orthodox, Bahai, Evangelical Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Roman Catholic, Buddhist, LDS, and religious scholars.

This is the question posed in the Faith Forum for April 21, 2013:

American philosopher Dr. Daniel Clement Dennett III stated, according to the BBC website, that “religion is a bad viru s … a lot of people are really afflicted by their religion and I would love to see them cured … it is a drug that you take and ingest by the eyes and ears.” What do you think?

Here is the posting of Bishop Gene Savoy Jr’s response:

RELIGION MUST BE PROGRESSIVE
Gene Savoy Jr., International Community of Christ Bishop, guest panelist

The nature of religion is the key to this question. Religions are founded as dynamic and charismatic movements by inspired and holy figures ordained of God who have been chosen to receive new prophetic or revelatory information that offers fresh perspectives and insights into man’s spiritual quest to know the divine. Such was the case with Abraham when he established a new Covenant in Canaan, with Gautama Buddha when he adopted the Middle Way, and with Jesus the Christ.

If the original teachings of religious movements are lost, watered down or become dogmatic, then religion suffers stagnation. In these cases, religion might hamper rational thought as it no longer serves the spiritual needs of an ever-evolving human species. Then, religion becomes stuck in the past. If, on the other hand, religion remains vibrant, evolutionary and progressive, then, to the contrary, religion serves to elevate the thought of man and woman.
