Birth of The Child, Jamil (1959)
As we remember the birth of The Wondrous Child of Light, Jamil, 63 years ago, it is fitting that we read his Sayings. And we continue.
The Twenty-second Saying (Part 6)
“Then the second disciple to speak presented another question. ‘Does the “point” where spirit and matter are connected represent the archetype?’ The Man answered saying, ‘There must always be an intermediary. In other words, between the Light Angel and Man as a Dark Angel – between his spiritual Consciousness or Soul and the physical man – is the archetype, that is, archetypal Man, the first Man, the first great Being that was neither spirit nor matter. And we originated from this archetype. We did not originate ourselves from spirit. Our father is not necessarily Adam, nor is Eve our mother. Our mother and father – our parent – is really the Dark Angel that evolved, or descended, or fell into matter.
“‘As one goes into the sun, within the manifestation of light there is a “center” wherein manifests an issuance from another dimension, which is the source of the Sun of Righteousness, not of the physical universe. The material sun is not the Sun of Righteousness. The Spiritual Sun, or the Sun of Righteousness, is a spiritual Power. One goes through the physical sun on the mental and physical level, and on the psychic level one goes through even greater suns because all light from the sun is linked to a parent sun or to a greater sun, or a series of suns. And as the psychic or Kalos nature evolves, it then returns to the spirit. And one sees the True Light of God and The Image and hears The Word. Thus, there is a process by which one returns to the Original State.’”

“And another Companion of The Way addressed his Teacher asking, ‘As I understand the Sayings and your explanation, the vital human essence, the élan vital or pneuma, becomes personalized and objectified in the person as a union with God through the Sun of Righteousness is made, so that Image then becomes the Image of the Son of God, and then it is the reflection – not I, but Thou with me – that does these things. Is that correct?’
“And The Man replied, ‘Let us use the allegorical Garden of Eden as an example. Man and woman were created in the Image of God. They had a spiritual Body that lived off the Love, Light, Truth, Goodness, Mercy, Justice, and Righteousness of God. That was all the food required by their Soul or Light spirit. They were Angels of Light. God’s Presence was sufficient to give them birth and to sustain them. Man and woman then were tempted by the Devil, the representative of the Powers of Darkness, which, again, is an allegorical story. We might ask ourselves, “Where did the Devil come from? Is he equal to God? Where did God come from? Who created Him?” We could go on with such endless philosophical, metaphysical questions, but they are not important because this is an allegory.
“‘When man and woman were tempted and they began to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil instead of from the Tree of Life, they fell out of step with God. In other words, to use a familiar analogy, it was as if their frequency was changed, the band on their radio frequency range was changed and they lost the station. Consequently, they could no longer hear the Word nor receive the Nourishment from God. And they were then forced, if we recall from the apocryphal New Testament writings, to drink water which made them nauseous. Thus, they became dependent upon substance outside of God, and God removed Himself from Adam and Eve in their original state. As a consequence, by eating food, man and woman became like the food and, having eaten that food, died. Life became a state in which food gave life and took life. Of course, we can ask the question, “Where did the food come from?” Again, it is all an allegory. There is a great truth locked up in the story of the Garden of Eden, an ancient story that antedated the Hebrew writings under Moses.
“‘To review, we have a pre-existent condition in which man and woman were spirit living off the Presence of God. Then God withdrew Himself, and man and woman lived off food and degenerated into material creatures, as did their descendants. However, they still had the potential of the spirit, because the spirit is what gives life. The body does not give life of itself. As material beings, man and woman are Images of the great spiritual Soul, and all living things of the world are images of man and woman. It is not the other way around, even though it appears that way.
“‘Once God had withdrawn Himself, God promised to reveal Himself a second time. Now God is revealing Himself a second time. And, in having revealed Himself, manifests the Image of Himself – not His True Self but an Image – which is the Sun of Righteousness filled with His Word; and that Image becomes the intercessor, the mediator, between man and woman and God. The First-Born Son of God into the world was the Sun of Righteousness.
“‘There are other Creation stories that go further back than the story of the Garden of Eden which tell of Man being created as Light – all Light – which was the Sun of Righteousness. But out of the Sun of Righteousness came a multitude of images. And then, out of these images came forth other images, like our physical sun, for example, without which life could not exist on this planet, even for a fraction of a second. Therefore, all life on the planet is an image of the sun. And just as that sun is an image of greater suns, and these greater suns are images of other greater suns and galaxies and so forth, eventually there is a median point – a “point” at the borderline where spirit and matter are connected, where an Image begins to take place in the physical dimension.’”

The Twenty-second Saying (Part 5)
“And the male Companion of The Way further asked, ‘Is a person in a state of perfect prayer open to revelation?’ The Man answered, ‘Yes, I would say so,’ and then continued. ‘Jesus preached in parables to the initiates, the neophytes, and the public. He spoke to the disciples in words they could understand because they were living The Way. Jesus taught that God the Father is the Savior, the Redeemer, and the Restorer of Mankind. He always referred to God as being the Father. He always acknowledged a higher power than himself. And when he passed away on the cross he said, “Unto thee, Father, I commend my spirit.” The spirit, having been created and reborn by God, was returned to God.
“‘Jesus taught that the body of flesh does not inherit the Kingdom of God; only the Body of Spirit does. Thus this world, with all its prayers and churches and power, is nothing because everything passes away in time. The only immortality is in the spirit, and a person should devote all one’s life to restoring that.
“‘To reiterate, according to the ancient Teachings, the Sun of Righteousness was the True Image of God. And God caused that Image to manifest, and that image was filled with His Word, and that was the First-Born of God, His First Son sent into the world.
“‘As man and woman looked upon the Sun of Righteousness after having learned to live The Way – they had to be taught how to live that Way by a Teacher, an inspired Teacher, Prophet or Holy Person of God – and were created anew in spirit, they became Images of the Image of the Sun of Righteousness. That was the true means by which a person would ascend to the Godhead, because God does not manifest in the world of the senses.
“‘There are two kinds of religion. One, the religion of the earth – the religion of the popular churches – teaches the parables of Jesus though they are misunderstood because the inner truths are not known. It is thus a religion of the senses, of the mind, of the psyche; and this religion has nothing at all to do with the spirit that is in each person. Those practicing this religion mistakenly believe that Jesus, or some other Holy Teacher, can save them, or that their rites and rituals, ceremony, liturgy, sacraments will be heard by God. Yet Jesus insisted: “You must be born again. Your spirit must be filled with the Image and the Word of God. Only then does God recognize you, and will you be able to hear the Word of God. Once you hear it and are filled with the Image, you then must live The Way. And in living The Way, you will then walk with God.”
“‘Revelation is revealed to those few Holy Ones inspired to found a new religion, or to restore an older one in progressive religious evolution until the world is redeemed. It is the object of True Religion, through its disciples, to make clear the One Teaching and the One Truth, for there is only One Teaching and One Truth, just as there is but One Way to this One Teaching and One Truth. Teachers ordained in the One Doctrine who explain the Teaching and the Truth and instruct the world in The Way must be cautious of those who have private revelations, or of those who innovate upon sacred scripture and interpret sacred things and found vain doctrines. The ordained Teachers must dissuade such individuals with courtesy and decorum, so they will not lead the goodly astray.
“‘False teachings, misrepresentations of the One Truth, often lead to complex combinations of teachings that give the illusion that there are many Truths in the world, when in fact there is but One. The disciple must be able to condemn such false ideas, not authorize or condone them when conversing with students who come to the School.
“‘Error, like Evil, leads Man astray and away from God. Truths of the mind and the material world, like truths of the psyche and the psychic world, are not Truth of Spirit. The student should be careful of which path he or she is pursuing: the earthly, the psychic, or the spiritual. The former two are not related with the latter and should be quickly dismissed, by both teacher and student, from their conversation.’”

The Twenty-second Saying (Part 4)
“And The Companion then asked, ‘Does being born again take the place of prayer? Is it necessary to pray after spiritual rebirth?’ To this, The Man said, ‘Here we have a dilemma. For example, we of the Church of the Second Advent preach to the Church of the First Dispensation saying, “Jesus Christ is not the Only-Begotten, First-Born Son of God.” That expression, taken from ancient religions, was always used to describe the great spiritual Sun of Righteousness by which God revealed His Nature to the world, expressed His Truth, which was perceived by the spirit of Man as Goodness or as Light, and spoke to the spirit of man and woman in The Word.
“‘The Sun of Righteousness was the intermediary between man and woman and God. The intermediary was not a person. The Christians borrowed that concept from ancient sources. These sources taught the Greek and the Egyptian concepts: that God had revealed Himself and given His Body, which was Light, for man and woman to eat, so that they might be nurtured; that He had revealed His Nature and His Face to all humankind in the Light of the Sun of Righteousness and spoke to them by means of His Word; and that that Light – that Sun – was His Image and His First-Born, which He had sent into the world to redeem humankind as an act of Love. Christians of the first centuries well understood this, but those of later centuries forgot the original teachings.
“‘In the teaching that has come down to the modern Church, people became obsessed with the idea that the life of the body was in the blood, and that the life of spirit was also in the blood. They spoke about the sacrifice of Jesus’ blood as being the atonement for Man’s sin, not realizing that Jesus followed The Way of God, looked upon the Sun of Righteousness, received The Image, was re-created Image, and received The Word. Both Image and Word were incarnate within Jesus. And he told the Jews to follow him, to live The Way, so that they, too, might be re-created in the Image of God and receive His Word. The body of flesh was never intended to be the Image of God because it was heir to death; and God, being deathless, could not possibly create anything that would suffer or die.
“‘Prayer does not rise to God, no matter how emotional, how zealous it might be. It is the same as yelling for God with the voice. God hears neither mental prayers nor vocal speech. He hears only the voice of the spirit. And you must live The Way, or He will not hear you. There is no other way to raise a prayer to God. The perfect prayer, as taught by Jesus, the Essenes and other members of the Eternal Race in every great culture throughout the world (for the Essenes were an Order of men and women living in Palestine who had their fellows in other parts of the world) was the same fundamental teaching: a person was reborn by living The Way, looking upon the Face of God, and allowing God to send His Word within that person so he or she might have a dialogue. And by “dialogue” was meant “God speaks to me and I speak to God by living The Way.” That is the perfect prayer – living The Way – not speaking, praying, asking, sacrificing, or any other thing a person might do.
“‘And that is the message we have for the Christian religion.’”

The Twenty-second Saying (Part 3)
“Then a male Companion of The Way, the first Companion to speak, asked, ‘Is the spirit, the sleeping spirit, related to the archetype?’
“And The Man answered, ‘The spirit of man and woman has the potential of Light and of Darkness. In that, we have an archetype. If we refer to the allegorical Garden of Eden, we see that Man and Woman fell away from God because they believed in the teachings or the words of the Power of Darkness, which we call the Devil. And, having thus believed, they followed the way of the Angel of Darkness and fell away from the Grace of God. And having thus fallen, they were denied nourishment and became dormant. A body denied food will die. Thus Man and Woman took on form – material form – which began with an archetype.
“‘That archetype was the “shadow” of the angelic Body of Light, a Dark Body of Light, or a Dark Angel. That was the archetype. And out of the Dark Body of Light slowly evolved the material body we have today, as did the mind. So the mind is related to the material body – both evolved out of the Dark Body and the mutated Consciousness which we call the Kalos nature of the psyche. And all these evolved out of the Light Body and the Divine Consciousness which can only be restored by God.
“‘Therefore, even though a material person goes to a material church and prays to a material god, that person will in no way gain access to the True God. And though prayers may be emotionally, psychically, and mentally satisfying and good for a person, they will not restore the spirit to a living Soul. That was a fundamental teaching of Jesus and the reason he and the disciples and the first Christians were so fanatic in their zeal to spread the “Good News.” But the people, in desiring to worship a messiah, or a material god, and wishing to have a savior who would redeem them, clung to Jesus as that savior, denying the Power of God as the means of restoring them to their divinity.
“‘The archetype is the neuter spirit which has its origins in the angelic Body of Light and becomes alive again with the Word of God in the Image. Therefore, individuals looking upon the Sun of Righteousness and hearing The Word evolve physically – on the mental level – very strongly. The psychic level then begins to develop and the person has memories of who she or he was. Then these individuals begin to have a Consciousness of Spirit and, in an instant, remember who they truly are. As a consequence, they let go of the material world and serve the world of the spirit more than the world of matter. They become a complex, as it were.’”

This past Sunday, we concluded the annual Advent Vigil (January 30th to February 6th) of daily sunrise services honoring the dawn of the Second Advent with the birth of the Sun of Righteousness and the manifestation of The Image and The Word incarnate. I truly hope you received the many special blessings emanating out of The Light during this blessed time of year. We will now resume our review of the Twenty-Second Saying of Jamil.
The Twenty-second Saying (Part 3)
“Upon concluding the words of the Twenty-Second Saying, The Man asked of those assembled whether they had any questions. And The Mariner among them said, ‘The early part of the Saying explains that the spirit is alive but not Conscious. I am not certain I understand. Could you please read that portion again?’ The Man read from the scroll again; ‘Man has a spiritual nature that is not Consciously alive – a spirit which is part of a spiritual domain and is not of the world or the material universe.’ When he had read these lines, he turned to The Mariner saying, ‘You may recall from The Teachings that every human being has a spirit of two natures: one of Light and the other of Darkness. Men and women are free to choose which aspect of their spirit is going to be encouraged to be restored and made alive. Most serve the Darkness because they are ignorant of The Way to Light, and have no access to anything beyond the world or the Powers of Darkness, which are readily available.
“‘Even though Man’s spirit, which envelopes him in a sphere of Light, is his only potential for the development of a soul, it is, nonetheless, a neuter. In other words, there is neither Light nor Darkness within it. It is, in a manner of speaking, sleeping. And most people, living in the world and motivated by it, pursue a life in which the individual is primarily involved in earning enough to provide for oneself and one’s family. People’s tensions are relieved through entertainment, vacations, and other means of relaxation. Living in the world so totally preoccupies people that the spirit has no nourishment, no source of energy by which to awaken. Thus, the beastly or animal nature of people – that body of flesh that inherits death – rules them.
“‘In their concern with living, they often become opposed to one another – neighbor, brother, sister, sometimes their own children – because one’s own person is most important to the individual. Therefore, the fittest survive among men and women and animals intent on survival. This is a well-known fact of nature as taught by the naturalist Charles Darwin. But there is another part, the greater part of man and woman, which is the spirit. And that spirit is the cause of Man’s existence, even though the only apparent, visible form is the body which, as we know from The Teachings, is a product of Man’s descent into matter, taking on a mutated form through this abortion.
“‘The spirit of Man in the world has no means of being awakened. But the manifestation of the Sun of Righteousness, a Power of God and a nourishment to the spirit, touches it and, like a seed implanted into the spirit, gives birth to the soul. Thus born, that soul takes on a Conscious life and becomes a person rather than remaining a neuter spirit with a dual potential.
“‘In the churches today, people pray to God, they worship God, they sing praises to God, they participate in rites, ceremonies, the sacraments, the liturgy, the litany, and believe that the exercise of mind, speech and emotion is sufficient to give them spiritual beingness and life to their spirits. This, of course, is not true, as we know from one of the most fundamental teachings of Jesus. His words to this effect were, “All your words and all your prayers and all your pompous ceremony will not give life to your spirit. You must be born again, and that birth comes of the Father. Follow me, I am The Way. I live The Way. And by living this Way you, too, will become reborn. And once reborn, you become a Child of God, and God becomes your restorer and savior.”
“‘The spirit, being neutral, comes alive by means of a food or a nourishment outside the realm of nature. That food is The Word and The Image of God.’”

It is appropriate that we read from the Twenty-Second Saying on the Sun of Righteousness and the Image and Word incarnate within that Light as we prepare to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the dawning of God’s Second Advent.
Our eight-day sunrise vigil begins on the evening of January 29th with a service commemorating the events that transpired that night in 1962 when The Child of Light, Jamil, passed from this world at midnight. We then have eight days of sunrise services through the morning of February 6th. Of course, you can find all the details in the last chapter of the book, Jamil: Child of Light, which I always encourage you to read at this special time of year.
The Twenty-second Saying (Part 2)
“After thinking these thoughts, The Man took a scroll in hand; and removing the silken ribbon that bound it, he began to read to The Mariners and Companions of The Way.
“And these are the words of the Twenty-Second Saying:
“Man has a spiritual nature that is not consciously alive – a spirit which is part of a spiritual domain and is not of the world or the material universe. It sustains the life of mortal man, yet he knows it not, being ignorant of his true nature: the spirit sleeps. And no teaching of saintly priests or words spoken by holy prophets, neither any scripture, sacred book, sacred law, nor sacrament, ordinance or commandment of any world religion, regardless of its great age or supposed authority, can awaken it – these only stir the mind or the emotion or the psychic nature of Man. The spirit remains the sole possession of God; and nothing of the earth, no matter the title, position or claim to any such title or position, can reach it.
“God speaks to the spirit through His Word. And the Word manifests in the Image. There is no other way to God. God has blessed the world with a precious gift – the manifestation of the Image and the Word discerned as the great, holy Light of the spiritual Sun of Righteousness which is the instrument of His Divine Will.
“God would that man and woman perceive His Image and Word and by these means come to Life again; and by living, they would know Him.
“From ancient times God has revealed Knowledge of His Existence through Holy Ones inspired of the Image and the Word. And Holy Ones proclaimed to all the world the means by which the spirit might live again and know God. But humans, in their foolishness and inability to judge or know things of the spirit, because of their perpetual clinging to the senses and the mind as the sole means of perception, lost hold of the Truth of the revealed Doctrines.
“Thus, Knowledge of The Way to God was forgotten. Even the Christian religion is guilty of this most grievous error. The scriptures say, ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His Only-Begotten Son, so those who believe in Him might not die, but have life everlasting.’
“Man, desiring to worship things mortal and being ever anxious to follow the way of the flesh, believes the good and inspired teaching that Jesus is the Son of God. Though incarnate with the Image and the Word of God and truly a Son of God, Jesus is not the First-Born of God sent into the world to redeem humanity.
“The First-Born is the Light of God’s Image and the Truth of His Word, gloriously manifest in the Sun of Righteousness.
“It is not by the suffering of Jesus, my beloved Brother in Light, nor by his death on the cross, nor by the shedding of his blood as atonement, that Man is saved, but only by the Image and the Word which God has caused to come into the world. God alone is Man’s Savior. And only God’s Light and Truth can redeem him from the error of Darkness; for if Man’s spirit not be reborn, it can never know God.
“It is because he was made in the Image of that Image and Word of God that Jesus arose from the dead. And this is the greatest of Secret Sayings, for the Image and the Word given of God so that Man might live are not discerned by the worldly but only by those who live The Way under the Codes of the Order of The Community.
“The spirits of those who live The Way are reborn and made into living souls; and they know God by means of the Image and the Word, which are Life and Breath, Bread and Water, to the soul. No mortal eye can see, nor mortal ear hear the Things of God.
“The Sun of Righteousness comes to restore order in the universe. It is the Image of God and not an image of any living thing either in Heaven or on earth. The Word is manifest within the Image, and within the Word is God’s Revelation and Knowledge of Himself, the source of all life in its original and pre-existent form. The Substance of this spiritual Sun is God – Redeemer, Restorer, Savior – who instructs the world in understanding of His Nature in Love, Mercy ,and Goodness.
“Let all those who would be redeemed from the earth, in life and in death, accept the Gift of God with rejoicing and thanksgiving, wrapping themselves in a robe of splendorous Light as a protection against the Powers of Darkness which even now gather in strength to seek out the spirits of the ignorant and the unsuspecting who put their faith and trust in the powers of the world.”
