“Astronomers Discover Complex Carbon Molecules in Interstellar Space”

 

 

A team led by researchers at MIT in the United States has discovered large molecules containing carbon in a distant interstellar cloud of gas and dust.

This is exciting for those of us who keep lists of known interstellar molecules in the hope that we might work out how life arose in the Universe.

But it’s more than just another molecule for the collection. The result, reported today in the journal Science, shows that complex organic molecules (with carbon and hydrogen) likely existed in the cold, dark gas cloud that gave rise to our Solar System.

“After 29 years, first-known brown dwarf revealed as twins”

 

  • Brown dwarfs are ‘failed stars’ with masses greater than planets but less than stars. The first confirmed brown dwarf was Gliese 229 B in 1995.
  • But Gliese 229 B’s brightness is puzzling. Based on its mass, it should be much brighter, said astronomers.
  • Now, astronomers say Gliese 229 B is two brown dwarfs, not one, as they originally thought. The researchers said the two brown dwarfs orbit extremely close together.

“12 breathtaking images from the 2024 Astrophotography Prize Photographer of the Year awards”

 

Striking. Vibrant. Dazzling. The adjectives to describe our universe are nearly infinite. And nowhere is that on display more than in the images from this year’s Astrophotography Prize Photographer of the Year awards.

Australian photographer Phil Hart took the top honors for his incredible image of the 2023 solar eclipse over Exmouth, Western Australia. Hart’s photo is one of the highest-resolution (white light) images of the solar corona ever documented, and its details are staggering. He created the image using multiple telescopes, video frames, and RAW exposures.

This past Saturday’s readings were from the 4th century mystic theologian and bishop, Gregory of Nyssa (one of the Cappadocian Fathers), and we also completed our readings from The Prophecy to the Races of Man, Chapter 70: The Great Day of God (pp. 454 – 459). The Subtle Forces of Mind and Spirit

“There are moments in the lives of all of us when we catch glimpses of a life—our life—that is infinitely beyond the life we are now living. We realize that we are living below our possibilities. We long for the realization of the life that we feel should be.

“Instinctively we perceive that there are within us powers and forces that we are making but inadequate use of, and others that we are scarcely using at all. Practical metaphysics, a more simplified and concrete psychology, well-known laws of mental and spiritual science, confirm us in this conclusion.

“Our own William James, he who so splendidly related psychology, philosophy, and even religion, to life in a supreme degree, honored his calling and did a tremendous service for all mankind, when he so clearly the fact that we have within us powers and forces that we are making all too little use of—that we have within us great reservoirs of power that we have as yet scarcely tapped.

“The men and women who are awake to these inner helps—these directing, molding, and sustaining powers and forces that belong to the realm of mind and spirit—are never to be found among those those who ask: Is life worth living?”

Glimpses of a Higher Life

Many of us do have glimpses of a higher life. Some don’t, but still feel there is something missing from their life. Wealthy people are never satisfied, so they keep trying to become more and more wealthy without realizing that it is something other than material wealth that they yearn for. We do recognize that we are living below our potential and most of us want to improve. Unfortunately, many don’t know how, and governments certainly are not going to help. People who awaken their spiritual faculties are less easily controlled by governments and businesses, so governments are not going to promote any form of real spiritual development. Some are promoting simple form of meditation, but only because that has minimal effect on our spiritual growth, but does make us easier to control and manipulate.

Powers and Forces

There are force centers with us that are also called chakras. These force centers do have the potential to contain great power and energy, but in most of us, they are very weak. They need to be charged with energy to function fully and the best way to do that is by taking in sunlight at or near dawn. The physical sun will charge the physical centers of the body and the Spiritual Sun will charge the Spiritual centers of the Spirit.

I Have recently been watching an old BBC television series called “Wizards VS Aliens”. In this series, an alien spaceship is hiding near our moon and trying to get to wizards on Earth. The aliens have discovered that they can extract the energy of magic from the wizards and feed on it. In a couple of episodes, we see wizards that have had the magic sucked out of them, recharge by facing the sun at dawn. At least they got the idea of power and energy coming from the sun correct.

The Men and Women Who Are Awake

As the quote says, it is true that those who are awake to their spiritual Self do not ask: “Is life worth living?” They know for certain that it is, just as they know that there is an afterlife. They also know that they must prepare for this afterlife now, while they are still in a physical body and in the physical world. To believe that you can suddenly awaken your spiritual faculties at the moment your physical body dies is like believing that you can wait until the ship you are sailing on is sinking to start taking swimming lessons.

Personally, I really find it strange and sad that so many people today speak of being “woke” as if it is a bad thing to be avoided at all costs. I guess they like walking around in a spiritual coma.

 



“A steam world exoplanet with an earthlike atmosphere?”

 

 

  • GJ 9827 d is an exoplanet orbiting a red dwarf star, some 98 light-years away. It’s about twice the size of Earth and searing hot.
  • It’s the smallest exoplanet so far where water vapor has been detected. But does it have a hydrogen atmosphere, or a more earthlike atmosphere?
  • New results from the Webb space telescope suggest an atmosphere dense with heavy molecules. This includes even more water vapor than first thought, suggesting the hot planet is a “steam world.”

“Fumes of Fiery Volcanic Moon Detected Outside The Solar System”

 

 

Around a neighboring star just 635 light-years away, astronomers have found even more evidence of a moon absolutely livid with volcanoes.

There is a giant cloud of sodium consistent with volcanic activity, orbiting an exoplanet named WASP-49b, orbiting in turn a yellow dwarf star named WASP-49.

And how do we know that the sodium is from an exomoon? The exoplanet is a gas giant, unlikely to host volcanoes – and the sodium cloud is out of sync with the exoplanet’s orbit, but exactly what we might expect if WASP-49b had a rocky volcanic moon.

“Earth’s core has a huge, hidden donut shape”

 

 

  • Earth’s core is in two parts, an inner solid core and a liquid outer core.
  • Scientists just discovered a large donut-shaped region within the outer core. They used a new method of measuring seismic waves to find it.
  • Earth’s magnetic field is powered by the liquid outer core. The discovery provides new clues about the dynamics of the magnetic field.
