The Right Reverend Sean Savoy delivered the May 1 Pannuches homily. His message addressed the importance of the expedition to India underway at the time the homily was delivered and included readings from the text The Project “X” Symposium: Solar Teachings of India.
Passages read during the homily are excerpted below:
“The Way is universal. There can only be One Way just as there is only One God. This Way has appeared many times in former ages, and it is now appearing in the Final Age of the world. The Way always creates a religious people and a religion teaching the One Way. In our study of the ancient religions we familiarize ourselves with this Way which validates our own Teaching of the New Way. It can easily be recognized that The Way taught by Holy Ones, the doctrines of which can be found hidden in the cryptic symbology of sacred texts, is one and the same Way taught in our religious School. But there is, and their must be, a difference in one respect, a difference which must be so because of the age in which The Way is now appearing.
“It is unique because there exists a New Condition, and you, the would-be adepts and masters of this Teaching, must recognize this New Condition and work with it, for to repeat or to mimic The Way of the ancients would be of little avail and of no practical value to you. It is unique because this New Condition which, although similar in many ways to the Condition that existed in former ages, exists for the New Age in which it appears.
“The Condition revolves around the appearance of what we call the Sun of Righteousness, the name to describe God’s spiritual Image, or Sun, and the manifestation of God’s Word in full force, which has never been as strong except in the first and the original appearance. That marks the difference. We are speaking, of course, of the Second Advent of God’s Image and Word in creation today.
“Now that we have established the precedence for the Second Advent, a New Advent of God, who appears and reveals His nature in His Image and Word, that is, through a New Condition that exists in the universe which was not there before, we can now begin the lecture on the New Condition which makes the creation of a New Religion essential.
“Let us examine what Indian scripture had to say about this future Condition and how it can be recognized. Moreover, what is said about the goals of the New Religion and the person who would, under the direction of God, cause it to come into being in the world after it had already been created in the Consciousness of God.
“Since we have decided to be brief we will cut through the maze of allegory, straight to the core of the prophecy that is so well known in India. It is carved on many temples and inherent in the sacred literature of India as contained in the Mahabharata, the national epic, and can be found in other literature of the religions of India. This one source is sufficient, however, for our needs, although it exists in the Vedic and Aryan traditions of India and is to be found in the Hindu Paranas and in the Buddhist and Jain scriptures.
“Very briefly, the prophecy, which must be condensed, reveals that at a future time a Miraculous Babe was to appear in the world, establishing a Universal Way of Life opposed to secular ways of life and the secular powers of the world. The world has always longed for world peace and the cessation of conflict between national states. A child was to appear, in reality, a super-human being from another world, a world of God’s Light, disguised as a little child. His coming was to be preceded by the appearance of the Spiritual Sun flaming in the heavens in the form of a Great Chakra, or Great Sun Wheel, the rays of which would assist in the establishment of a universal spiritual realm that will unify the whole world. The Child was to be called the Chakravartin, and he was to set the Great Sun Wheel in motion at his command and hold it against all powers of evil for the human family and all of the created beings to follow. The Child was to be the Universal Monarch, a King, assuming the character of the World Savior, or Messiah, to use the Judeao-Christian term. As Buddha set in motion the wheel of the Sacred Doctrines which had been set in motion by former enlightened Buddhas, the Universal Child was to set in motion the Sacred Sun with the consent of God and with God’s assistance, appearing in the form of an Image of Light, and by the Sacred Word within this great heavenly Sun. The Way was for all humankind and not for any privileged class of people; yet, only the spiritual ones devoted to The Way could benefit the world and make humankind knowledgeable in this Way.
“The Child was to be recognized by thirty-two marks that Sages would recognize from the moment of his birth, and by numerous secondary marks. Seven symbols of his coming into the world would be, first, the appearance of the Sun Wheel as a universal sign and six other symbols which do not concern us in this lecture because of the allegory used, which is often interpreted literally and has caused some confusion. One of his signs was to be a pair of fish, which astrologers interpreted to the sign of Pices, and theologians interpreted as the twin Buddha or the twin World Redeemer or the returning Buddha or the returning Christ.
“Of importance to us is the fact that the government to be established by The Child in the Sun was to be theocratic, ruled by God, and signifying all abundance. His disciples were to wield a solar and Holy Power as well in their effort to unify the world and teach the human family how to restore itself to the original Image of God.
“We see here the same idea that exists in Jewish and Christian theology, that is, the coming of a Divine Child into the world who would lead mankind to a Golden Age and the appearance of the Sun of Righteousness as a Universal and Heavenly Messiah or Christ – Almighty God Himself.
“This appearance was to be announced by a prophet, an Elijah figure, who would assist God in establishing this Theocracy, or Kingdom, on Earth in the Second Appearance. The Child was to fulfill that appearance, and man was to be judged and redeemed by God.
“We must recognize also that while the Miraculous Babe sets the Sun Wheel in motion, that wheel is God. The expression of motion means that he announces the appearance of the spiritual Sun to the world and uses its rays, as do his disciples, to combat evil and wickedness.
“Now, let us move on from the ancestral tradition of ancient wisdom, accepting the fact that the appearance of the Sun is real as announced by The Child named Jamil who founded our religion. This fact is essential to the master adept of The System because herein is the key to the master adept’s power and availability of energy and knowledge. Without this consent there can be no master adeptship. In fact, the person looking upon the sun will have opposite results if he or she fails to acknowledge this point. That is as it should be.
“I stress, before leaving this theme, that the existence of the Sun of Righteousness as the Universal Sign of the Second Appearance, or Second Advent, of God is of paramount importance to us. The Child, who has left the world, remains within the Sun assisting our movements, not as a human but as a super-human being, or as a symbol of super-human beingness. He is not to be worshiped. In fact he forbade this. He was a messenger of God and he is the patron of our religion, an image of Light that asks nothing in return, least of all, worship. This is forbidden. He is our authority, and he has begun the ordinations of our ministry. It is because of his command and his authority that this ministry is established. We could say that our ministry has been established by God, but who is God and when did He appear and how did He announce this? I have known many mad people, many, well I don’t know what you would call them, I suppose self-proclaimed prophets who say that they speak with God at tea time and every night before going to sleep. This is utter nonsense and the fact that they have a following indicates the madness of our times.
“The Child has set the Sun in motion inasmuch as he has announced its existence to us. The Sun of Righteousness has appeared. The Sun is the Image and the Word of God, and we see that as a Great Light, which is God’s appearance. God is revealing His Face to us in the Second Advent. We can live off that Image and that Word. The Child did not start the Sun nor create the Sun nor command it to shine. Allegorically, he pointed like an arrow or a hand to the existence of it, and by our observance and recognition of the Sun, he has, in fact, set it in motion for us. This is a theological point. This was his role as instructor from heaven. Be this as it may, God is our highest and true authority, but, as humans, we require assistance of supernatural, or angelic, beings from heaven.
“The Christian Church has made a god of Jesus. They have elevated him to the status of one of the Trinity. He is worshiped. His blood and his body are worshiped and consumed by those who believe in him. This is the last thing that Jesus would have allowed. When asked by his Disciples and called Good, he said, “Why call me Good?. There is only one Good and that is God.” You should always remember this. Jesus was a prophet who brought news of a New Condition to the Hebrews.
“We are a mystery religion and The Child is part of this mystery. It is extremely important for each of you to have an understanding of what The Child was, who he is, and how he is significant to this Teaching. We know that it was by his example and instruction and appearance that this religion was founded. I did not found this religion myself. I had the responsibility of forming it and working with other people and teaching and writing. This is my task. This is my responsibility. Each one of you, as a master-adept-to-be will have your role to play, whatever it is. You may not know what it is now but when the vision appears to you, or the Word speaks, you will know what it is. You will tremble, but you will go forward by faith and trust in the image. . . .
“I lived with The Child. I saw The Child. I worked with The Child. I received from The Child, and continue to receive, but still my rational mind struggles against it because it is not my nature to worship anything. According to the rational, humanistic, egotistical mind or personality, I have a respect for God as long as he stays out of my affairs. If God asks me to do something that I don’t like, my human nature probably wouldn’t do it. That is the way it is. Who is God to tell me what to do? After all, I am God. That kind of attitude is the problem with humanity. Now, my spirit, being quickened by the Sun and by that spiritual person that is within me, co-inhabiting this physical body, tells me that the appearance is all true, to trust in it, and to believe in it. Of course, my spiritual being has no doubts. Thus, I have a duel nature, like you all do – a human nature and a spiritual nature that oppose one another.
“You must understand that you, the person, the man or the woman, will oppose the concept of The Child. You will oppose the concept of the Sun, the concept of God manifesting, the concepts of our sacred doctrines, but as you begin to find gray hairs in your head, and as the wrinkles appear you will likely think to yourself, “I may not always be here. Is there something I don’t know? How can God create me and yet allow me to die?” Then the rational mind, by experience will say, “There’s got to be more to life than meets the eye.” Then your spirit will say, “Well, that’s what I’ve been telling you.”
“The master adept has great faith and trust in the Image and the Word. He or she has great respect for the prophets and Holy Ones of former times and he or she is no stranger to any one of them. They are all his brothers and sisters in Light. So he begins to have faith and trust. . . .
“The power of Light, the incarnation of God’s Word within your spirit, can actually reconstruct this world with the aid of the Sun of Righteousness that is shining in the heavens. We have been entrusted with a great power, but we have to learn how to use it. The essential teaching of becoming a master adept is acknowledgment of and access to this source of power.
“The Sun is not just for you. It is not to make you pretty and young, to live long, to be happy and content, to have wealth, to have glory, position or social standing. If you get blind in one eye or you cut off a finger or you fall down and break your arm or your leg or your child dies or your house burns, that’s no excuse to give up your belief in God.
“The Sun is not just for you. You are not to seek reward from the Sun. You are not given anything by the Sun on the human level. Your entire reality of this Sun and the Image and Word, your entire benefit, must be, and can only be, spiritual. However, there is one thing we must take note of. According to all of the literature of India in regard to this great Miraculous Child, he was to establish an earthly empire, a world religion that would take care of all the poor and the infirm, the widows, the orphans and all living creatures. It speaks about the minister of finance and it speaks about this and that, heads of state, people who are knowledgeable in administration and so forth. So it means, really, that we must establish a material Order by which to teach the world. And this Order, like the world, can be changed into spirit at the given time. This we must have faith in. . . .
“. . . The Child is paramount in your role as an adept. Without The Child, without acceptance of that Child as a messenger of God, you cannot benefit, or at least realize the full benefit from the Sun. Of Course, God is supreme, and it is to God that you must dedicate your entire being. We are forbidden, as we said earlier, to worship The Child in any way. I have even been forbidden to return to his tomb. That fact tells us something. He set in motion our religion as a living religion of Light, pointing the way to the New Sun of God, and it is in that Image of God, who has revealed His Face, His Countenance, and His Nature, that we must believe and trust in completely. The Child is only a minister of a spiritual state. He has come to announce the appearance of the King. He is not the King.
“By our recognition of this Sun we have, in fact, set into motion for ourselves and the world the fulfilment of the prophecy of Indian sacred scripture.
“The Child taught that within the Sun is a power that can be used; yet, we must always remember that the All is God. We must also respect our Teacher, The Child, on the human level, whose appearance on Earth formed this religion and this Order of which we are a part. We must respect the Order as established; for, as humans, we must function on Earth.
“Our participation in heaven will come at the time of our passing out of the world. Our involvement directly with God as spiritual beings will take place when we ascend, but let us ask ourselves, now on Earth, that if The Child had not appeared in the world, would we exist as a religion or as a Community or as an Order today? We would not. That is a fact.
“Has the physical sun altered its condition? To me it has. The sun is different. There is something in the sun. There is something real about the force centers. There is something real about color. There is something real about sound and music. The ancients were right. We must acknowledge that. If it were not for the sun we would not be here, as I have said, as a church. This fact must be acknowledged by every disciple and would-be adept of The Way. The Child is our inspiring symbol. By consent, the mysteries of the ancient religions have been opened up to us and, under the authority of The Child as a universal symbol, our movements are blessed by the spirits of the Immortals and by God.
“Without The Child we are helpless, just as without the Sun of God we are helpless. This is a fundamental Teaching for master adepts. This must be set straight in your mind, very straight. Recognition of The Child makes us submit to the Will of God; for The Child was sent by God as our instructor, just as the Sun of Righteousness is our instructor. The Child instructs us on Earth and God instructs us in heaven.
“The master adept begins the right path by acknowledgment of his or her own limitations as a mortal and accepts all help from God in whatever form. The Child was the first to appear in the world in the New Age of God, the Second Advent, to herald the appearance of God’s Image and Word in the heavens. He was the first. That is important in itself. After him appeared God’s Sun; thus, The Child did, in fact, set into motion that Sun by his coming into the world. Of course, the Sun was already there, but we did not know that.
“As adepts we can understand this mystery, and as masters of The System, ordained in the Teachings, who carry God’s banner out into the world – we walk with Jamil, the Miraculous Child, and we love him, for he symbolizes all humanity. He symbolizes every man, every woman and every child that has ever lived or will live, and he is our hope. We go forth as little children, strong in spirit, reflecting the Image and the Word of God. This makes our religion unique because the condition is unique with the appearance of the spiritual Sun set in motion for our use.
“If you the individual are to become a master adept of The System, that is, a true disciple of The Way, you must become empowered because you cannot become a master adept by human power alone. By that same logic we would all be weight lifters, wrestlers, boxers and athletes. It is a spiritual empowering, and the availability of spiritual power enables you to become a master adept. This empowering begins with faith and trust in the Teachings and by living The Way according to the Sacred Codes of the Order. These Codes are not mastered in one mighty leap but in gradual stages of progression back to the Godhead. This mastery is not for yourself alone but for humankind, which is a very important point to remember. You are only as good a master adept as you are teacher and a living member of The Community. You must sacrifice your life for the good of the world and become a co-worker for the redemption of the world. Your human faculties, your rational mind, will tell you, “I cannot do this.” And by human standards you will not be able to do it, but, if you are empowered by God’s Word and if you hold to the Law, you can and you will accomplish that which has already been pre-ordained in the Mind of God. This is central to the Order. It justifies its existence. Or perhaps a better way of expressing it is to say that it is the cause of, and the reason for, its existence.”

The Sacred Solar Teachings Symposium was held at the Gateway Sheraton Hotel in Los Angeles, California, on June 26, 2010. The event was planned and cosponsored by the Jamilian University of the Ordained and Dr. Mitchell Gibson of Tybro Corporation, a psychiatrist, author, spiritual teacher, and former Consociate of the International Community of Christ. Bishops Gene Savoy Jr. and Sean Savoy lectured alongside Dr. Gibson, speaking on a wide range of topics related to spiritual enlightenment and solar teaching. 
Bishop Gene Savoy spoke on ancient solar cultures and the modern solar spiritual Community. Bishop Sean Savoy discussed the nature of the Spiritual Sun and the benefits and practice of solar techniques and presented some basic solar techniques as well. Dr. Gibson spoke on the nature of the sun and changes to come in 2012. The event was photographed by the Reverend Robert Roy. Also in attendance from the International Community of Christ were Academy members Charlotte Davis of Los Angeles and Margaret Myota of Wisconsin, who joined nearly 60 other attendees and assisted with details of the day’s event.
The conference was conceived by Bishop Gene Savoy Jr. in March 2010 while speaking to Dr. Gibson on other issues. Dr. Gibson quickly agreed to the collaborative effort, and arrangements for the June 26 seminar began shortly thereafter. In Los Angeles, the speakers agreed to continue working together and made tentative plans to hold other such seminars in Phoenix, Dallas, Chicago, Milwaukee, New York, and Montreal. Dr. Gibson has also accepted the invitation to speak as part of the Conference on the Spiritual State of the World at The Community’s 2010 annual Convocation in September in Reno.
