“Kings came and departed to their place. They ministered unto the people according to the light revealed unto them. Most knew only the veiled Truth. but in olden times, they were better kings than in later days. There were long generations of men who walked with wisdom, and among them was the generation of the First Great Master, he who established the Brotherhood of the Chosen Ones of Light. In those days men learned the rites for coming forth by day, but the inner wisdom was not declared before them. Yet they were days of wisdom, skill and knowledge, but the knowledge of the spirit still languished, and the Sacred Secrets remained hidden. In fact never have they been revealed to the multitude of men, for never has the multitude of men been worthy.

“Now men say that all the wisdom of those so wise availed them nothing, have they not long gone down into dust? Have they not departed to the land of no return, to the place that may or may not be? Where is their memorial? Where their shrines? Can even their tombs be seen?

“They say among themselves, as it will ever be said when men are deluded by their mortality, “The life of man is short and uncertain; the one certainty in life being the approach of death. What awaits hereafter, no man can tell, for no man is known to have returned from out of his tomb. We are all the children of accident and mischance, and in a short generation shall be as though we had never been. Our bodies shall harden and be ground to dust, and the fire of our hearts shall burn itself out and turn to ashes. Our shade will hover for its day and then be wafted away on the wind, and as the waters come and go, our name will pass from the memories of men forever. The works of man shall pass away like the shadow of a cloud upon the sand, and his life will vanish like the dew of morning that disappears in the heat of the rising sun. What are the days of man, but the shadow of a shadow, and he passes away to an end from which there is no returning. He goes out through a door which is immediately shut, and there is no way back.”

Kings Ministered According to the Light

In some ancient Societies, kings and others in powerful positions were either students of the spiritual Mystery Schools, or they were advised by students of such schools. So rather than being the materialistic rulers we see today, they were able to rule with the understanding that people have an immortal spirit as well as a mortal body.

Coming Forth By Day

The sacred knowledge was never revealed to the masses or written down where they could find it, so rather than saying that the awakened individuals looked at the sun, they hint at it by saying they came forth by day. They may not have been given all the Sacred Wisdom, as the quote indicates, but as it also says, they were given enough to develop Wisdom and Knowledge.

Wisdom for Nothing

Some people did say that spiritual Wisdom was for nothing because it didn’t help in the material world. Some may have developed that attitude because they were not accepted as students in the Mystery Schools. Others simply felt that it was pointless to study something that didn’t help them in their lives in the “real world”. It didn’t help them grow their crops, it didn’t help them build buildings, it didn’t help them run a business. But such beliefs are false. Some of the most successful business people were successful because of their spiritual insights. The development of new food crops can often be attributed to awakened individuals. And some of the great architects were very spiritual people. And then consider the arts. In sculpture, painting, and music, some of the best artists were spiritual people.

Bodies Turn to Ashes

This part of the beliefs of materialists is true, but it denies that there is an afterlife. For those who choose to fully embrace the realm of matter and ignore their spirit, that is true. But it doesn’t have to be true for everyone. Those who awaken and develop their spiritual faculties while still in the physical realm will be able to move on to an afterlife in spiritual form and continue their development until they reach the highest level of Consciousness and arrive in Heaven.
