Rainbows Ring the Sun, November 20, 2012
A rainbow appeared around the sun on November 20, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., a few days before Thanksgiving.
My wife Karen spotted the ring through the kitchen window about 9:00 a.m. GMT. I took a look, too. Thinking it might be picture-worthy, I got out the Nikon D7000, took a shot, and did a little “photoshopping” to boost the colors in the ring. Then I posted it to Facebook where Roger Weld saw it and sent me this link to NASA:
The text relating to the NASA image indicated: “NASA’s Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) captured this image of a coronal mass ejection on Nov. 20, 2012 at 8:54 a.m. EST, about two hours after it left the sun. Credit: NASA/STEREO.”

NASA's Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) captured this image of a coronal mass ejection on Nov. 20, 2012, at 8:54 a.m. EST, about two hours after it left the sun. PHOTO: NASA/STEREO.
Dismissing the differences between GMT & EST time zones because the sun was shining in both at the same (sun) time, the NASA picture and the picture I took were taken almost at the same time. Each is a different visual reflection of the same event.

Communique to Include Monthly Japan Report
Beginning this month, the Community Communiqué will be receiving regular correspondence from the Community in Japan!
Miyuki Okayama, long-time Consociate and personal assistant to Bishop Yukinori Matsushita in Kurume, Japan, will now be taking on a new role in the Community. As “Japan correspondent,” she will be sending a brief letter each month to inform us of major new events in the Japanese Community, and along with the letter she will be sending a few new photos each month as well.
For the first time, we will be up-to-date on the fast-growing Japanese Cosolargy Community.
Thank you, Miyuki!

27th Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Eve Service Held
The 27th annual Thanksgiving Eve Service, a worship service of prayers, readings, and music from a variety of faith traditions, was held Wednesday November 21, 2012, at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Cathedral in downtown Reno with over four hundred persons in attendance.
Food items were donated to the Northern Nevada Food Bank, and monetary donations were given to Good Shepherd’s Clothes Closet. Nearly $1500 was raised for the Clothes Closet, which included a $500 donation from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
This year’s service was unique in that it focused primarily on music and was meant to appeal specifically to the members of the Latino community who are among the primary supporters and congregants of St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral.
Gene Savoy Jr. chaired the organizing committee as president of the Nevada Clergy Association, which sponsors the event. He also gave the benediction, reading from the Thanksgiving Hymns of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Radheka Patel Savoy, a Hindu by religious tradition, read from the Gayatri Mantra in English and Hindi as part of the program.
Present at the service were members of the Savoy family and several other members of the Second Advent Church Community.
