“Keeping Evil Thoughts Under Control”

2013-REP-Harold_Boulette_Solar_Wind

“This is why the Lawgiver, symbolically commanding us to deny entry to sensual pleasure, told us to watch the head of the serpent, because it is watching our heel. Its aim is to bite our heel and so to poison us; … This means that we should first learn to detect the attack of deceitful thoughts from premonitory signs and to watch their first beginnings, which they contrive to make attractive in appearance so as to attain their end; than we can expose the wickedness of these thoughts by comparing their first beginnings with the final results. …
“To clarify what has been said, let us take two examples. Often the vice of unchastity has it’s first beginning in self-esteem; … Under the influence of self-esteem, a man may perhaps enter the priesthood or the life of monastic perfection; … his self-esteem makes him think highly of himself. … So, by beguiling him with such thoughts, self-esteem draws him far away from the inner watchfulness that he should possess.” ~The Philokalia

“Perhaps the most important part of this quote is near the beginning where we are told that when the teacher or master tells us to give up sensual pleasures, it is an allegorical way of saying that we need to watch our own thoughts and stop ourselves from thinking evil things, evil thoughts being anything that turns us away from doing God’s work. It doesn’t have to be thoughts of murder, or rape, or robbery to be evil. Any thought that encourages us to engage in more materialistic activities and cut back on our spiritual ones is an evil thought, but is often not recognized as such.”

“Magnetic fingerprint of our galaxy revealed”

The magnetic field of our Milky Way Galaxy as seen by ESA’s Planck satellite. This image was compiled from the first all-sky observations of ... polarized light emitted by interstellar dust in the Milky Way. Darker regions correspond to stronger polarized emission, and the striations indicate the direction of the magnetic field projected on the plane of the sky. The dark band running horizontally across the center corresponds to the Galactic Plane. Here, the polarization reveals a regular pattern on large angular scales, which is due to the magnetic field lines being predominantly parallel to the plane of the Milky Way. The data also reveal variations of the polarization direction within nearby clouds of gas and dust. This can be seen in the tangled features above and below the plane, where the local magnetic field is particularly disorganized. PHOTO: ESA and the Planck Collaboration

“An international team of astrophysicists has released an unprecedented map of the entire sky that charts the magnetic field shaping the Milky Way galaxy and helps in our understanding of the birth of the universe.

“The team — which includes researchers from the University of British Columbia and the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA) at the University of Toronto — created the map using data from the Planck Space Telescope.

“Since 2009, the Planck telescope has charted the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), the light from the Universe a mere 380,000 years after the Big Bang.

“But Planck also observes light from much closer than the farthest reaches of time and space. With its High Frequency Instrument, Planck detects the light from microscopic dust particles within our galaxy and helps identify the non-random direction in which the light waves vibrate — known as polarization. It is this polarized light that indicates the orientation of the field lines.”

June 14, 2014: Chapel Readings

2014-PUL-Gene_Jr_pulpit_DSC_4608-FuellingS Each week of the liturgical year, a reading from Second Advent Scripture is delivered as part of the Saturday Communion of Fellowship Service held in the Chapel of the Holy Child. This reading follows the Sacred Calendar of the Church; that is, Prophecies and Revelations that have been received by The Church on sacred dates are recalled in a liturgical context during the appropriate season each year. This reading is delivered by the Officiant of the Communion Service (that is, Bishop Gene Savoy, or occasionally in his stead, Bishop Sean Savoy) just before the final blessings. Each service also includes a reading from the ancient scriptures, prayers, or wisdom sayings of various world religions past and present and is usually thematically related to the Second Advent Reading. This reading is delivered by the Reader right after the announcements that begin the service and is thus the first reading of the service. An audio recording of the reading from Second Advent Scripture delivered on the date above is provided here below together with a transcript of the first reading of the service that day.

ANCIENT SCRIPTURE AND WISDOM SAYINGS

A Reading from the Prophet Ezekiel:

Then the angel brought me back to the entrance of the temple. I noticed that water was flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from under the right side of the temple, from south of the altar. He led me out by way of the north gate and brought me around the outside of the outer gate that faces toward the east; I noticed that the water was trickling out from the south side.

When the angel went out toward the east with a measuring line in his hand, he measured a thousand feet and then he led me through water, which was ankle deep. Again he measured a thousand feet and led me through the water, which was now knee deep. Once more he measured a thousand feet and led me through the water, which was waist deep. Again he measured a thousand feet, and it was a river I could not cross, for the water had risen; it was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be crossed. He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?”

Then he led me to the bank of the river. When I had returned, I noticed a vast number of trees on the banks of the river, on both sides. He said to me, “These waters go out toward the eastern region and flow down into the Arabah; when they enter the Dead Sea, where the water is stagnant, the waters become fresh. Every living creature which swarms where the river flows will live; there will be many fish, for these waters flow there. It will become fresh and everything will live where the river flows. . . . On both sides of the river’s banks, every kind of tree will grow for food. Their leaves will not wither nor will their fruit fail, but they will bear fruit every month, because their water source flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food and their leaves for healing.”

“Feeding the Spirit”

2013-REP-Harold_Boulette_Solar_Wind

“Many people seem to take it for granted that if a man believes in and desires to have a spiritul life, he can live it in utter independence of spiritual food. He believes in God, loves his neighbor, wants to do good, and just goes ahead. The result of this is that the life of the God-fearing citizen or the Social Christian, as now conceived and practiced, is generally the starved life. … Yet the literature of the spirit is full of warnings on this subject. Taste and see that the Lord is sweet. They that wait upon the lord shall renew their strength.” ~Evelyn Underhill

“Most people understand that they must eat a healthy and nutritious diet to have a strong and healthy body, even if they don’t bother to practice it. Yet few seem to understand that the spirit and soul require nutrition as well. They must be fed just like the body, or like the body they will shrivel and become weak.”

PATH TO LIGHT: The Most Right Reverend Gene Savoy Sr.

There are twenty-six Sayings recorded in volumes I–VI of The Image and The Word: The Secret Sayings of Jamil. The later Sayings were delivered either onboard the Feathered Serpent II, or during voyages that terminated in America or at the Sanctuary grounds. The object of the Sayings was to reveal to The Community what it must do in the world.

Volume VI, published in 1981, presents the Twenty-Second through Twenty-Fourth Sayings. It is in this volume that Reverend Ted Staver found a passage on Reverend Gene Sr’s life, described by himself, that seemed to fit the format of the “Path to Light” series. Ted suggested the passage to us, and we are posting it for you.

In the passage that follows, Bishop Savoy is presenting the story of his early life as an illustration in response to a question from one of the Companions of The Way regarding the means by which one comes to know who one really is.

“I was adopted when I was three. I lost my natural father and my mother remarried, so I was adopted. And I was raised with half-brothers and with a stepfather who fed me and took care of me and did the best he could as a father. I loved my father very, very dearly, and my brothers and my mother, of course. But my mother was the only person who really understood me. She had a kind of knowledge of me and gave me something that I needed that no one else in the world ever gave me, at least when I was a child. At the age of five I started going to church and by six years of age I was beginning to listen to sermons and getting involved in theology.

“My stepfather did not go to church. My mother was the granddaughter of a Baptist minister, and her father eventually became religious and became active in the Church, though in my own home there was no formal religion. But from the age of six on I went to various Churches: Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Pentecostal, Catholic. I had an urge to enter the ministry, an urge to be spiritual, without knowing why.

“I was different from my brothers and they never really understood me and my religious inclinations. Yet, I never understood the life that we led. Quite simply, I longed for the spiritual life even at that tender age. My mother’s sister influenced me greatly, for she was a Christian Scientist. But the motivation that drove me to worship was an inner compulsion, a driving force that no one understood, not even myself. I did not like school and formal education, not even in later years at business College and University. Like in my earlier home life, there was no spiritual environment. Even the orthodox Church environment was empty, yet it was better than nothing. Still, I longed for a spiritual life of a kind and order not known in the world. No one could instruct me in it. No one was knowledgeable in it. No one I talked to – clergy, teacher, priest, scholar – had the vaguest idea of what I was seeking. I was an alien in a hostile environment, alone, lost, empty.

“The same feeling continued as I got older – I never felt comfortable in the world or that I belonged in it. Though I continued to go to church, was baptized and planned on entering the ministry, I felt alien even to the Christian environment. Like so many, I became interested in Eastern teachings, but again I felt like an alien. I only began to feel comfortable when I discovered the beauty of the ancient religions such as Zoroastrianism and the ancient Egyptian teachings of Hermes Trismegistus. However, I did not become a great student of these religions as I continued to be more inclined toward Christianity.

“Basically, what I am trying to say is that with all my searching in the Christian Church and in the Eastern and Oriental religions, I never became comfortable with religion until I had experienced the visions, and then was able to endure the strong light of the sun. My eyes were no longer blind to the Light of Christ. The world was no longer Dark. For I saw within the light that illuminated the world a greater Light, the Light of God that illuminates the spirits of men, a Light more brilliant than the light of the stars and the moon and the sun combined. That efficacious Light put my heart and mind to rest. It taught me the meaning of religion in a flash, a rapture of spiritual joy. It instructed me in religion more than any rite or ritual, more than any book, more than any sermon. It was a living communion in which I was able to experience the divine Presence of God. I was reborn! Made spiritual, yet I was without instruction, an innocent child, a neophyte awaiting maturity as eagerly as a babe.

“I found the source of Righteousness. I had found the place where God resides, not by my own motivation, but by the vision of Light, and by the Presence within the Light. What clergyman, what Apostle, what biblical scholar had ever seen God face to face? God dwells in a place accessible only to those who are called to it by Him, it seems. And I knew that it was my destiny to serve God in the formation of this Church. I therefore awaited the birth of The Child from whom I would learn with trust, and hope and belief. I gave up all my human motivations of self; that is, pursuit of my human destiny. It was my destiny to serve God within the framework of the Church to come. God would be my Teacher and I would follow Him. My spiritual eye had been opened, and it saw a realm of spiritual beingness. Now that I had been led to it by revelation, I would devote my whole life to teaching it to others.

“Then I began to have recollections and remembrances. It did not all come at once, it came in stages. And as I had experiences and began teaching and moving about in the world, my remembrances increased by the act of working in the Church. Then, of course, when Jamil was teaching, just by looking at him I knew many things. He had the flashing eyes and the touch. He did not have to say much – all he had to do was make a gesture with His hands or look at me with a flash, and I knew. I learned from him by his presence and by looking at the sun, and by recalling and putting things together. And after a while I realized that although I was doing all the work, or so it appeared – writing, teaching, recording the words of Jamil, exploring and holding the Church together as best I could, and suffering, as it were, especially as people could not understand and were leaving – that there was a power over the Church that was outside of my control.”

ANCIENT SCRIPTURE AND WISDOM SAYINGS

A Reading from John’s Book of Revelation:

I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I, John, saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my child.

And there came unto me one of the seven angels, and he showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, clear as crystal. And it had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels. And the city lay foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. And the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it.

Second Advent Pentecost (June 6, 2014)
On Friday, June 6, 2014 Second Advent Pentecost was observed with a celebration of Communion and Sunrise Divine Service at the Church of New Pentecost at Red Rock Consecrated Sanctuary. A light breakfast was served at the outdoor Sanctuary Refectory.

Pentecost in the Second Advent Church means that God has bestowed the Divine Presence upon the Community in Sanctuary, the Image and the Word that nurture the spirit and soul with Life and Wisdom. The old First Dispensation Christian celebration commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Disciples seven weeks after Easter. In the old Hebrew calendar, Pentecost — Shavout or the Festival of Weeks — commemorated the giving of the Law on Mount Sinai. In the Second Advent, New Laws have been revealed at the Temple Mount for a new age under God at the Second Coming.

* * *

June 6—forty-nine days after April 18, Second Advent Easter—is a fixed date in the Sacred Calendar of The Church for the observance of Second Advent Pentecost. The sacred date of April 18 and the pentecontad cycle leading to June 6 are discussed in The Book of God’s Revelation. Book II of God’s Revelation, titled “The Seal of God’s New Law,” records the events, meditations, and visions experienced by The Man and The Companions of The Way on the day of Second Advent Pentecost, June 6, 1982.

The following excerpt from The Book of God’s Revelation describes the vision experienced by The Man atop the Temple Mount of the Sanctuary of Prophecy on the day of Pentecost 1982, and suggests the nature of the Revelations received that day:

And The Word of God spoke to his Soul a second time, revealing unto him the Sanctuary was under the special Blessing of God, and that he was to mark those sites where he communed with The Image and The Word.

And The Word of God proclaimed to The Man’s Soul that the Righteous Ministry was ordained to go forth to the whole world, proclaiming God’s Advent and the freedom of the peoples from the tyranny of heretical governments.

And God did reveal to him a Proclamation of Human Spiritual Rights that all governments were to acknowledge and honor. The Righteous Ministers would be God’s Envoys–as a nation in sanctuary–under the protection and sovereignty of God.

And The Word of God revealed that the Temple of uncut stones, made Righteous as was the sun of the earth, was blessed of God. And in the Temple, restored not by human hands but by the Hand of God, God would commune with the Righteous ordained to His Ministry.

And The Man saw a great cloud come over the Sanctuary and the face of the sun. And he felt God’s Presence and Blessings over the Sanctuary. And he looked at the sun grown brilliant by the clouds, its rays burning as fire, and he heard the Word of God say, “Let none but the Righteous in The Way look upon The Image I have made for a blessing over the land.

This day a gift is bestowed upon the Church of My Second Advent. The Light of the Sun in the Eight Appearances shall make wise the Souls of the Righteous who will have understanding and knowledge of God. United they shall be by spirit, bonded together as One in God, and there shall be no diversity amongst them.

“The Spirit of God is poured down upon His People who hear God’s Word. Let the Righteous seek out the Temple and be anointed by God for an earthly mission to make Righteous the people of the world.”

And from out of the cloud the Man saw a Heavenly City formed by shafts of light descending from the sun. And he saw that City hovering over the Sanctuary and the Temple Mount. And the City of Heaven and the Temple of the Sanctuary, with its mounts, were united by those shafts of light. And the shafts of light shone like blue pillars of sapphire reaching upward into the sun.

After a time the invisible City that had appeared returned to Heaven, but the light remained on the seven mounts in the likeness of thrones. And The Man heard The Word speaking to his Soul saying, “The Heavenly City of Light made visible by God shall be hidden to all but the Companions of The Way, anointed.”

And after the City had risen, he felt the presence of The Light. And he saw the sun’s response to the Divine Presence as great flares of light emitted from its surface.

And again The Word spoke saying, “As the Seven Mounts of the Temple have been sanctified by The Presence and bound to Heaven by cords of light beams, consecrate the Mounts of the Temple with holy oils for anointings of the Righteous. Let the faithful ordained to the Ministry of Righteousness be bound to these rocks and to the sun by the anointings, as the Soul and the Spirit are united with God by The Image and The Word in Light.

“God would that earthly Temples be such as this Temple—formed of stones uncut by human hands and joined with God by cords of Light—for the City of God’s Presence will descend upon gathering places such as these here.

“The True Temple of God is the Light of His Image and Word, and the True Temple of man is the Soul wherein dwells The Image and The Word.

“In the final age of the earth, at the threshold of the consummation by Fire, man, as flesh not made in The Image of God, has need of gathering places where the Light is quickened for the good of the Soul. For The Word has revealed that God shall indeed send a Divine redeeming Fire to enlighten Souls and burn up that wickedness first loosed by Satan and the fallen Angels of Darkness, lest the heretical nations ruin the world and the races.

“It is good that humankind restore order on earth in Justice, Love, Peace, Wisdom, and Understanding, thereby limiting the power of evil and of man. The Temple of uncut stones is given for a blessing and for the guidance of the nations and their peoples.”

On that same day, June 6, 1982, The Man marked the lesser mounts of the Temple Mount, the Garden of Oracles, as well as the site to be called God’s Waters.
