Commencement of The Great Work (1962)
Winter has finally arrived here in the high desert of the Sierra Nevada. We were fortunate to experience two most enjoyable and profound sunrise vigils during the Christmas-Epiphany Season (December 25 – January 6) and during Advent (January 30 – February 6). However, cold and some snows have now settled in for a while.
February is a most profound month in The Community’s Sacred Calendar. We are familiar with the events that transpired from January 29/30 through February 6 in 1962 – the passing of The Child, Jamil; the birth of the Sun of Righteousness; and the manifestation of The Comforter which are vividly recounted in Jamil: Child of Light. On this day, February 20, also in 1962, the Great Work began. Twenty years later, on February 14, 1982, the Testament of God’s New Covenant was proclaimed at the Consecrated Sanctuary. It is on this New Covenant that I wish to briefly focus on today.
The Holy Teachings and Doctrines of the Prophets of God – the former covenants made between God and His True People – have been lost to the religions of the world but have been repossessed by the Second Advent Community. Our New Community, small but not insignificant, is animated by God’s Image and Word manifest in the Heavens. Our liturgy is sacred because it is the same used by Jesus and other Holy Orders – a solar liturgy no longer in use by any church, any order or any religion. It has been re-instituted by God and the Light. Just as Jesus, and the Buddha before him, came to supplement the old with the new, so this Community comes with Divine Authority to supplement the old with the new.
It cannot be denied that God’s Covenant has been lost. How many times has it been twisted and changed into various meaningless faith and belief systems? But, in this Advent of God, God wishes to restore the Covenant and enlighten the peoples of the Earth so that they might not continue in illiteracy of Divine Doctrines. Unfortunately, the Powers of Darkness resist this illumination of the human family. In league with the nations of the world who have assumed full control and authority over the races, they foster and promote, aid and abet, the rejection of God and supernatural law and order. This is resulting in a profound breakdown of civilization, disruption, anarchy and madness by an uncaring and uncontrollable world, as the Prophets declared would one day occur.
Nevertheless, God’s Covenant has been re-established in a new way. God manifests Himself in Light come as the Image and the Word within the Sun of Righteousness. In the past, Prophets and Holy Ones have come into the world to instruct their peoples only to be rejected, reviled or killed in a most ignoble and unholy manner. Following their deaths, words were put into their mouths, and they were used to perpetuate the old ways, the old priesthoods and the religions of falsehood. God has declared this will not happen again.
God in His Abundance now fills the entire Universe with His Divine Light – untouchable by any material or secular power – to renovate all Creation. This Community, unified under the Image and the Word of the Sun of Righteousness, must hold to the New Covenant by living The Way. As we have seen, the Sun is a blessing to those who live the Way of Righteousness. We ultimately seek not the benefits of the material rays but the blessings of the Spiritual Sun.
