On April 1, 2018 members of the resident Community and friends attended a traditional Easter brunch hosted at the Rectory-Abbey at Bishopstead. The gathering was a happy one and the arrival of Spring added a note of joy to the celebration. Children participated in an Easter egg hunt.

ANCIENT SCRIPTURE AND WISDOM SAYINGS

A Reading from the Gospel of Thomas:

     These are the secret sayings that the living Jesus spoke and Judas Thomas, the twin, his brother, recorded:

(1) And he said, Whoever discovers what these sayings mean will not taste death.

(2) …Seek and do not stop seeking until you find. When you find, you will be troubled. When you are troubled, you will marvel and rule over all; and having ruled, you will rest.

(3) …The kingdom is inside you and it is outside you. When you know yourself, then you will be known, and you will understand that you are children of the living father. But if you do not know yourselves, then you dwell in poverty and you are poverty.

(4) …A person old in days will not hesitate to ask a little child seven days old about the place of life, and the person will live. For many of the first will be last and become a single one.

(5) …Know what is in front of your face and what is hidden from you will be disclosed. There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed.

(6) … Do not lie and do not what you hate. (Again) all things are disclosed before heaven. There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, nothing covered that will not be disclosed.

(10) …I have thrown fire upon the world, and look, I am watching till it blazes.

(11) …This heaven will pass away and the one above it will pass away. The dead are not alive and the living will not die….When you are in the light, what will you do? On the day you were one, you became two. But when you become two, what will you do?

(17) …I shall give you what no eye has seen, what no ear
has heard, what no hand has touched, what has not (ever) arisen in the human heart.

“Beginning in 2010, it became practical to sequence whole genomes from DNA extracted from ancient human bones, and to analyze the data to understand changes in biology over time. Since that time, the amount of ancient DNA data has increased at an extraordinary rate, with the number of samples with at least one-fold genome coverage being five in 2013, eighteen in 2014, and 116 in 2015. Dr. Reich will begin his lecture by describing how present-day Europeans derive from a fusion of highly divergent ancestral populations as different from each other as are Europeans and East Asians. He will then summarize the history of modern humans in Europe over the approximately 45,000 years since they first arrived. He will next describe the spread of farming populations from the Near East over the last 12,000 years. He will finally conclude by describing how the analysis of ancient DNA has led to some of the insights about human biological change over time.”

Transmute Evil

Manichism is one of many mystery schools and spiritual schools that teach that we must “transmute” into good the evil within us and around us. It is not an easy task, but it is doable and worth doing. But transmuting is changing the thing, not destroying it.

We often see pictures of the war between dark and light with angels killing demons of darkness. This might be an acceptable allegory, but is far from the truth. Angels and beings of light will not kill devils and demons. They will transmute them as Steiner says. Or more accurately, they will help them to transmute themselves. We all must do the same within ourselves.

The Renown Spiritual Center and Interfaith Sanctuary celebrated its grand opening on Monday evening, March 19, 2018. The event was attended on behalf of the International Community of Christ by Bishop Gene Savoy Jr. and his wife Radheka Patel.

The renovation project entered its initial planning stage in 2015. (See the article posted in August 2015 for details.)  Now, after nearly three years, the project has come to fruition.

The Church was a $1000 sponsor of the renovation and received a plaque in memory of Gene Savoy Sr., which was placed on the chapel’s “giving tree.”

In addition, Reverend Mother Elizabeth Reece provided to additional panes of stained glass to make the original design a triptych.

A Reading from the Revelation of John:

Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things that are written in it, for the time is at hand. . . . Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him. . . .

I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

I, John, your brother and partner with you in the oppression, Kingdom, and perseverance in Christ Jesus, was on the isle that is called Patmos because of God’s Word. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, like a trumpet saying, “What you see, write in a book and send to the seven communities : to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”

I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. Having turned, I saw seven golden lamp stands. And among the lamp stands was one like a son of man, clothed with a robe reaching down to his feet, and with a golden sash around his chest. His head and his hair were white as white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire. His feet were like burnished brass, as if it had been refined in a furnace. His voice was like the voice of many waters. He had seven stars in his right hand. Out of his mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest. When I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead man.

He laid his right hand on me, saying, “Don’t be afraid. I am the first and the last, and the Living One. I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. Write therefore the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will happen hereafter; the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lamp stands. The seven stars are the angels of the seven communities. The seven lamp stands are the seven communities.

“Physicists have understood at least theoretically, that there may be higher dimensions, besides our normal three. The first clue came in 1905 when Einstein developed his theory of special relativity. Of course, by dimensions we’re talking about length, width, and height. Generally speaking, when we talk about a fourth dimension, it’s considered space-time. But here, physicists mean a spatial dimension beyond the normal three, not a parallel universe, as such dimensions are mistaken for in popular sci-fi shows.

“Even if there are other dimensions somewhere out there in our universe or in others, should we travel to a place which includes them, scientists aren’t so sure we could even experience them. Our brains may be incapable. Mathematically, we can describe the 4th dimension. . . .

“We ourselves as 3D objects cast a 2D shadow. A 4D object should then cast a 3D shadow. We can learn something about a 3D object by studying its shadow. So it stands to reason that we could also gain knowledge about a 4D object from its 3D shadow. Both teams in these experiments did something of that kind. They used lasers to catch a glimpse of the 4th dimension. . . .”
