Enlightened Person

“Trying to explain enlightenment to a materialistic person is like trying to explain atomic energy to a caveman who has just discovered fire. Yet the materialists will ask and then think enlightenment doesn’t exist if you can’t give a simple answer in ten words or less.

“Even those of us who have been spiritual students for ears only have a vague concept of it. It is something that can be known only by those who have experienced it. Ruysbroeck may be one who did experience it and is trying his best to explain it. Because of the limitations of language designed to explain the material world, he cannot totally succeed. As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “. . . what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of the birth pains. . . .

“If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.

For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. . . .

“So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”

He says: ‘The nose and the eyes, and the tongue, and the skin and the ear as the fifth (or smell, sight, taste, touch, and hearing) mind and understanding are the seven sacrificial priests separately stationed’; and which ‘dwelling in a minute space(still) do not perceive each other’ on the sensuous planes, none of them except mind. For mind says: ‘The nose smells not without me, the eye does not take in color, etc. I am the eternal chief among all elements (i. e., senses). Without me, the senses never shine. …

Seven Senses

“Since spiritual, occult, and religious writings always speak of things in sevens, it makes sense that we should think of the physical senses as being seven rather than five. The ancient book Blavatsky quotes from calls the sixth and seventh mind and understanding. She doesn’t explain what was meant by understanding. I think it would be more accurate to call those two senses mind and intuition. This will be confusing to some since what we are here calling the seventh sense is commonly considered to be the sixth. Some will also say that the mind is not really a sense but an interpreter of what the senses detect. That is splitting hairs, I think. And interpreting the environment is what senses are all about. The mind plays a big part in that process. Seven senses just makes sense.”

El Cardonal Retreat 6

This year, 2018, the Church has been diligently working on the initial design phase of the ongoing project in Mexico: Cosolargy International’s Retreat at El Cardonal – Healing Center & Spa.

This phase involves the creating of site plot maps, floor plans, elevation drawings and various building schematics – all towards developing the master plan .

This is an ambitious project and will, no doubt, have to be completed in phases. To learn more about the present stage of the project and about future stages, read the Head Overseer’s recent letter.

HEAD OVERSEER’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

December 14, 2018

As we approach the Christmas-Epiphany Season beginning on December 25th and culminating on January 6th , we are reminded that the teaching of Christ Jesus was one of Light. It is believed by the old churches that Man is redeemed by the blood shed by Jesus, and that by the drinking of that blood and by the eating of his flesh salvation is attained. However, we of the New Church, under the command of the Sun of Righteousness, declare that man and woman are redeemed by God’s Light and not by the body of His Son and Messenger.

The death of Jesus on the tree was not a sacrifice worthy of the God of Light but rather a disgrace to those who caused it. Jesus spoke in parables and taught that it was by the eating of God’s Light come from the Sun that Man’s bright, spiritual nature could be repossessed. He taught that he was of Light, as are all Holy Ones of God. And he taught men and women how to partake of Light so that they would never hunger or thirst again.

For Jesus ate of the Bread of Light and was therefore of that Light.

The ancient Israelites who ate manna in the desert did not attain salvation by eating it. For all things of flesh and of matter pass away. But those who partake of the Light that comes from Heaven – the Bread of God, which is His Image – do not die. For the Light of God is the living Bread which He gives for the life of the world. God gives this Bread through the Light of the Sun.

But men and women rejected this Bread, and it was withdrawn. Therefore, all people should rejoice that God has sent anew the Bread of Life from the Tree of Life – the spiritual Sun – which fed the First Man and the First Woman. This New Bread has come under the direction of God the Father. Surely God as Father would that all the human family – His children – know of the Truth and benefits thereof and turn away from untruths.

That is the purpose of the New Church.

Sabrina Josephine Savoy, daughter of Bishop Gene Savoy Jr., was received into the Jamilian University of the Ordained for initial studies on Saturday, November 24, 2019, during the Rite of Emancipation. Officiating the rite was Bishop Gene Savoy Jr. Rev. Mother Elizabeth Reece assisted in the public ceremony as Reader and Sabrina’s sisters, Sonya and Sophia Savoy, as Acolytes. Rev. Canon Robert Petrovich and Rev. Francine Petrovich, as Godparents of Sabrina, stood in during the service for the father, Bishop Gene Savoy Jr., and mother, Simona Campos (nee Sharp).

The Sacrament of Emancipation is administered to youths of the Church at fifteen years of age, who, upon personal request and with the consent of their parents, wish to make a renewed commitment to a life in the Second Advent Church.

The proceedings are divided into two parts — private and public — each involving a series of important aspects. The private ceremony, held in the Bishop’s Chambers at the Apostolic Chancellery, is restricted to the youth’s immediate family members, close friends, and godparents. It is at this time that the youth undergoes the Rite of Confirmation prior to being received into the seminary of the Church. The youth received ablutions from the bishop, who asks God to cleanse her for the True Baptism of Light in the Second Advent. Following the ablutions, the bishop invests the candidate with the shirt, sacred cord, collar, and garment of the seminarian. The initiate then elevates a prayer to God asking for assistance in her new life and pledges obedience and respect to her appointed spiritual teacher. The bishop’s anointing of the youth with sacred chrism and the reading of the benediction conclude the private ceremony.

The vested seminarian then proceeds tot the chapel where, in company with her godparents and the bishop, the public ceremony takes place before the Assembly of the Faithful.

At the public ceremony, after the ritual blessings delivered by the godparents, the youth and her godparents sign the official Act of Emancipation.

Following the inscription, the seminarian is called upon to deliver her address to the congregations, at which time she makes public her wish to pursue seminary studies in the Sacred College.

The bishop ends the ceremony with the Final Blessing. A reception at the Rectory-Abbey followed, at which the youth’s family served a traditional banquet of sweetened rice, bread, nuts, and fruits.

A Reading from Solomon’s Book of Wisdom

I called on God, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. I preferred her to scepters and thrones, and I accounted wealth as nothing in comparison with her. Neither did I liken to her any priceless gem, because all gold is but a little sand in her sight, and silver will be accounted as clay before her. I loved her more than health and beauty, and I chose to have her, because her radiance never ceases. All good things came to me along with her, and in her hands uncounted wealth.

I learned both what is secret and what is manifest, for wisdom, the fashioner of all things, taught me. There is in her a spirit that is intelligent, holy, unique, manifold, subtle, mobile, clear, unpolluted, distinct, invulnerable, loving the good, keen, irresistible, beneficent, humane, steadfast, sure, free from anxiety, all-powerful, overseeing all, and penetrating through all spirits that are intelligent, pure, and altogether subtle. For wisdom is more mobile than any motion; because of her pureness she pervades and penetrates all things. For she is a breath of the power of God, and a pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty; therefore nothing defiled gains entrance into her. For she is a reflection of eternal light, a spotless mirror of the working of God, and an image of his goodness. Although she is but one, she can do all things, and while remaining in herself, she renews all things; in every generation she passes into holy souls and makes them friends of God, and prophets; for God loves nothing so much as the person who lives with wisdom. She is more beautiful than the sun, and excels every constellation of the stars. Compared with the light she is found to be superior, for it is succeeded by the night, but against wisdom evil does not prevail.
