“Training and Understanding for Successful Spiritual Growth”

“It is of course the training and the understanding that are an important factor in the use of the arcane arts such as astrology, sacred geometry, and, indeed, theurgy. And it is perhaps worth remembering that there was a time when mathematics was seen to be fairly miraculous. Interestingly, with the development of computers, we can again return to some of the ancient ideas about the relationship between mathematics and music and find them provable.

“By quoting Irenaeus when he was talking of Marcus who was an avid user of astrology we can perhaps take the arguments in a full circle and can accept that there will always be problems in the acceptance of these arts.” ~Bernard Simon

Training and Understanding

Training is important for real spiritual growth. Understanding is even more important.

Those who chose self-training have several disadvantages. First, it is hard to know which methods really work and which don’t do anything. Second, it is hard to know what order things should be done in or where to start. Third, the books, videos, and web sites never have a complete system. The authors never tell you that.

But even if you get good training, you have to understand to apply it correctly. If a brain surgeon knows how to cut correctly, but can’t tell what tissue needs to be removed, he can’t be an effective surgeon. Similarly, if you practice spiritual techniques without any understanding of what you are doing, you will likely not get good results. In the worst cases, you might end up dealing with a demon pretending to be a light being.

So having a good teacher or a good spiritual school teaching you is worth the effort and cost. A teacher can make sure you are taught only as much as you are ready to handle. She can also make sure that you understand what you have been taught.

May 18, 2019: Chapel Readings

Each week of the liturgical year, a reading from Second Advent Scripture is delivered as part of the Saturday Communion of Fellowship Service held in the Chapel of the Holy Child. This reading follows the Sacred Calendar of the Church; that is, Prophecies and Revelations that have been received by The Church on sacred dates are recalled in a liturgical context during the appropriate season each year. This reading is delivered just before the final blessings. Each service also includes a reading from the ancient scriptures, prayers, or wisdom sayings of various world religions past and present and is usually thematically related to the Second Advent Reading. This reading is delivered by the Reader right after the announcements that begin the service and is thus the first reading of the service. An audio recording of the reading from Second Advent Scripture delivered on the date above is provided here below together with a transcript of the first reading of the service that day.

SECOND ADVENT PROPHECY AND REVELATION

A Reading from The Book of God’s Revelation, BOOK I: “The Opening of the Seven Seals” (pp. 78-89).

ANCIENT SCRIPTURE AND WISDOM SAYINGS

A Reading from the Gospel of Philip:

It is from water and fire that the soul and the spirit came into being. It is from water and fire and light that the son of the bridal chamber (came into being). The fire is the chrism, the light is the fire. I am not referring to that fire which has no form, but to the other fire whose form is white, which is bright and beautiful, and which gives beauty.

Truth did not come into the world naked, but it came in types and images. The world will not receive truth in any other way. There is a rebirth and an image of rebirth. It is certainly necessary to be born again through the image. Resurrection. The image must rise again through the image. The bridal chamber and the image must enter through the image into the truth: this is the restoration. Not only must those who produce the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, do so, but they have produced them for you. . . .

The Lord did everything in a mystery, a baptism and a chrism and a eucharist and a redemption and a bridal chamber. . . . he said, “I came to make the things below like the things above, and the things outside like those inside. I came to unite them in the one place.”

“Seven Aspects of God, a Complex Being”

“Seven kinds of action of Deity were perceived by Boehme, none of which were more important than the others. These were:

  1. Ungrund, the ungrounded, the hidden Mystery in all things, the transcendent aspect of Being.
  2. Primordial Divine Will, ‘Father,’ both no-thing and everything.
  3. Will made subjective, the ‘Christ’ function.
  4. Will made objective, Holy Spirit,’ movement and life.
  5. The Trinity, the coming together or expression of the three wills giving a creative unity.
  6. Logos, or ‘the Word.’ the creative vibrational principle, i. e. ‘Let there be…’
  7. Wisdom, Sophia, the feminine principle of God. This acknowledges the androgyny of the Divine from which trinity and creation are born and exist.

Boehme himself says: ‘For I saw and knew the Being of all beings …’” ~Bernard Simon

Seven By Seven

Seven is a number we see a lot in religious and spiritual writings. It is assumed by most to be a reference to the seven energy centers (chakras) of the human body, although there are actually more than seven. Here we see that Jacob Boehme, from whom I quote often, lists a different Holy Seven: the “actions” or aspects of God. If you consider these seven aspects closely, you will see that they relate to steps and methods of spiritual growth and enlightenment.

ANCIENT SCRIPTURE AND WISDOM SAYINGS

A Reading from the Prophetic Book of Isaiah:

11.1 A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. 2 The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. 3 His delight shall be in the Lord. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide by what his eyes hear; 4 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall [destroy] the wicked. 5 Righteousness shall be the belt around his waist, and faithfulness the belt around his loins.

6 The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them. 7 The cow and the bear shall graze, their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 The nursing child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put its hand on the adder’s den. 9 They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

10 On that day the root of Jesse shall stand as a signal to the peoples; the nations shall inquire of him, and his dwelling shall be glorious. 11 On that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people….12 He will raise a signal for the nations, and will assemble the outcasts, and gather the dispersed from the four corners of the earth.

12:1 You will say in that day: I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, and you comforted me. 2 Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid, for the Lord God is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation. 3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. 4 And you will say in that day: Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known his deeds among the nations; proclaim that his name is exalted. 5 Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth. 6 Shout aloud and sing for joy, O (inhabitant of) Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One.

“Bonds of Matter Broken by Spirit and Truth”

Chained hands with clenched fists on a white background.

“Just as if a man were bound hand and foot with chains, and someone came and loosened his bonds, and let him walk free without interference, so the Lord looses from its bonds the soul that is bound with the chains of death, and lets it go, and sets the mind free to walk at ease and unhindered into God’s air.

“Suppose a man were in the middle of a river in full flood, and overwhelmed by the water lay lifeless, drowned, with dreadful monsters all around him. If another man, who is not used to swimming, should wish to save the one who fell in, he too is lost. … Clearly, there is need of a skilled swimmer, an expert, to go out into the water, … and bring up the drowned man. … The soul is the same way.” ~St. Macarius the Egyptian

Bonds and Chains

We don’t have to search far to find someone bound in ropes and chains. To some degree, all of us are. We are bound by our own beliefs. Chains of government and social correctness also bound us. But most of all, we are chained by the great illusion of matter.

WEEKLY MESSAGE: May 5, 2019

HEAD OVERSEER’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

May 5, 2019

Good morning. I write to you today having recently returned from Mexico where I met with members of The Community at our land on the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez) and others involved with our project. Soon I will have a comprehensive vision document to share with you. There are also new developments concerning our project in Mexico that we are working on, and when they are more fully fleshed out, I will let you know about them. I expect they will impress you as rather dynamic! In the meantime, know that things are progressing smoothly.

We are planning a Community trip to southern Baja in the latter part of October this year. If you are interested, please let us know ASAP by completing the attached form. It is urgent that we let the hotelier know how many rooms to reserve for us, as they fill up fast!

In other news, I am proud to announce that our new Cosolargy website went live while I was away. I invite you to look at it at www.cosolargy.org. This website replaces the previous Cosolargy site and is still in its initial stages. Our vision to expand the site includes additional information on the Consecrated Sanctuary, inclusion of the Universal Proclamation of Human Spiritual Rights, the importance of our explorations in Peru, and other aspects of our Community.

The company that designed our site thought it was important to create the site with a personal presence, so that is what we have done. We would like to hear from you on what you think about its design and scope because we will be making modifications, updates and additions over the coming weeks and months. Let me know what you like about it and what you think ought to be added our changed. We will take your comments into consideration and share them with the designers.

This new outreach and marketing tool will help us reach out to a wider audience and better present a fuller and more coherent message. It cost $10,000 to create, and we need your help to cover this expense. I have attached a pledge form, so that you can easily make your donation electronically. I encourage you to make your pledge today by filling out the attached form right away. Please. This is very important.

Later this month, I travel for two weeks to Japan where I will be meeting with our Community in Kurume on the island of Kyushu in southern Japan. We will be strategizing on how to grow our presence in Japan and further develop our educational programs through the Jamilian University of the Ordained. Towards the end of the trip, I will be in Tokyo to give a seminar to the public and meet with Ms. Michiko Hayashi, the successor to the late Dr. Masaru Emoto, who heads his IHM Institute.

You may have read Dr. Emoto’s best-selling book, The Hidden Messages in Water, which advanced the concept that water reacts to thoughts, words and intentions – indeed that water is a messenger of consciousness and could be positively affected by prayer and visualization. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend you do.

I gave a lecture some years ago on this topic, which made the point that being primarily made up of water, we, as individuals are positively affected by our Communion of Fellowship service when we bless the bread and the water, pray over them, infuse the natural elements with our positive and healing thought, and ultimately are blessed. Of course, it goes without saying that sunlight effects our water molecules and cells, and this, as you know, is fundamental in the practice of The System.

That is my rambling message for the day. Please do look at the new website. I am interested in your feedback. And I do need you to fill out the pledge form and get it back to us as soon as possible also indicating if you are interested in joining us Mexico in October.

I thank you, as always, for your support – both material and spiritual. Once again, if I may be of any personal service to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Very truly yours in Light+,

Gene
