“A dead galaxy from the early universe is forcing astronomers to rethink galactic evolution”

Over the past decade, astronomers have detected many stellar-mass black holes that don’t quite make sense.

Stellar-mass black holes range from a few times the mass of our sun to several tens of solar masses. They typically form when a massive star collapses at the end of its life.

But scientists say some stellar-mass black holes – those over about 45 times the mass of our sun – are too massive to have formed from a single star. So where did they come from?

2026 Nevada Prayer Breakfast Held

The 2026 Nevada Prayer Breakfast, organized by the Nevada Interfaith Association (NIA), was held on Wednesday, May 13.  Over 400 people were in attendance. Here is a copy of the address presented at the event by Bishop Savoy.

Expression of Faith – Nevada Prayer Breakfast (5/13/26) delivered by the Right Reverend Gene Savoy, Jr.

Good morning, everyone. Thank you all for being here, and thank you Father Chuck for your remarks. I also thank Reverend Matthew and the committee for inviting me to address you here this morning.

When we hear the word faith, many of us picture different things. For some, it’s a sacred text. For others, a ritual, a memory, a community, or a quiet moment alone. But across all of our traditions, one truth seems to echo: faith is not only what we believe, it’s how we express it and what matters most.

An expression of faith can be as simple as a gesture of kindness, or as profound as a lifelong commitment. It can be spoken in prayer, sung in a choir, lived through service, or carried silently in the heart. Faith shows itself not only in our words, but in the way we move and interact in the world.

In every tradition represented here, there is a shared thread: the belief that something greater than ourselves calls us toward compassion, toward understanding, and toward hope. Even when our religions, cultures, and languages differ, the impulse is the same – to connect, to heal, and to uplift.

So when we talk about an expression of faith, we’re really talking about the courage to live by our deepest values and convictions – the courage to see the sacred in one another, the courage to act with love even when it’s difficult.

Today, as people of many faiths, we honor the beauty of those differences and the unity beneath them. May each of us continue to express our faith not only in our traditions but in the way we listen, the way we serve, and the way we show up for one another.

I now offer you an expression of faith.

Man Lives His Allotted Span on Earth

“A man lives his allotted span in the dispensation of the High God of Old, whose will encompasses the daily task and round. All things have their beginning and end with God. His power cannot be suppressed. His knowledge is the wisdom of eternity. His strength reaches out into infinity.

“His dwelling place is set in the universal center, and He encompasses all the universes great and small. His breath sustains life in multitudinous forms, and his thought holds all things to their proper shape.

He prescribes the courses of the stars. He issues His commands to the winds, and they sing their responses. The wide seas murmur His praise. He moves the silences in the void of empty space, where the Eternal Heart lies sleeping. Order and beauty are shaped by His hands.

“His voice speaks from the sandy silences. He whispers in the cool breezes. He roars in the whirlwind. He murmurs in the running waters. He sighs in the treetops, and men hear His voice without understanding.

“Man dreams and says this is reality. He sees the shadow, but is blinded before the light. He reasons and is deceived. The design of the True God and His nature cannot be understood in the light of reason, for reason is not with this God, who knows all things without reason.”

-The Kolbrin Bible (MPR:2:6-9)

We Live Our Allotted Span

We each live an allotted span, which is determined, in the overall sense, by God. We can shorten our physical lives by eating poorly, not exercising, using illegal drugs, or intentional suicide. We can also increase our our span by living a healthy lifestyle, and using anti-aging supplements. Yet, while there are some who believe that eventually medical advances will allow us to live forever in a physical body, it is simply not possible. All things physical have a beginning and an end. The smart thing to do is to awaken and develop our immortal Spirit and Soul. Only that can give us true immortality.

All things Begin and end with God

Everything that exists in Nature was created by God. Even the physical universe, which was created by the Demiurge, has a spiritual element to it that was created by God. Of course, man-made things are not from God, so we can’t blame God for guns, cigarettes, and other things that are harmful to Man and other beings.

His Knowledge is Wisdom

Many people today are confused about this. Many think that the knowledge we get in school may sometimes be considered wisdom, but it isn’t. The only true Wisdom is the Knowledge that comes directly from God. This knowledge cannot be found in books, nor can it be found in the human mind. Only the Spirit and Soul can receive and understand God’s Wisdom.

God Dwells in the Universal Center

In a way, that is true, but it can be misleading. If you think of the dimensions of reality being like the layers of an onion, the center would be the middle part of the onion. In actual fact, God dwells in the highest dimension, which is the outermost layer, and all other dimensions are within it. As the quote goes on to say, God “ encompasses all the universes great and small.” So that backs up the teaching that the dwelling place of God is the outermost layer, not the innermost.

Man Sees the Shadow, but is Blinded by Light

We see the shadow world, which is the world of matter. We don’t see the spiritual world, which is invisible to the physical eyes. Only the Spirit can see the spiritual world. And if God were to appear in front of us in his true form, the brightness of His Light would probably blind us. But this also has an allegorical meaning. It means that the vast majority of us refuse to “see” anything beyond the physical. Even many who believe in God think of him as a physical being. But if God were physical, then like everything else physical, he would have a beginning and an end, and He would have a specific size. But God has no beginning and no end, and no limits.

“Tracking Changes in the Trifid Nebula With the Hubble”

The Hubble Space Telescope has been operational for more than 35 years now, delivering exquisite views into the cosmos. To celebrate its latest birthday, researchers have released this new image of the Trifid Nebula, also known as Messier 20. It’s a star-forming region located about 5,000 light-years away and appears to be broken into three sections, separated by dark dust lanes. The nebula is only 300,000 years old, and will dissipate into the interstellar medium in a few million years as its stars ignite.

“Exploding Stars, Black Holes, and the Forbidden Gap”

The gravitational waves from colliding black holes were first detected in 2015, with many more collisions found in the following decade. The theories say that stars between 50 and 130 solar masses should collapse and become black holes, but black holes with more than 45 solar masses are extremely rare. This is known as the Forbidden Gap. But what is the cause?

“Black hole Cygnus X-1’s dancing jets”

The Cygnus X-1 black hole has a special place in the history of astronomy. In 1971, astronomers confirmed it as the 1st known black hole. And now, a new study has shed light on the immensely powerful jets that stream from it.

These jets are bending and dancing, blown by the stellar winds from a large nearby star. By measuring the motion of these dancing jets, researchers were able to calculate their power.

They found the jets have an astounding 10,000 times the power output of our sun! Plus, they travel at half the speed of light.
