The Twentieth and Twenty-first Sayings (Part 5)

And The Man continued his commentary.

“‘If we build churches and acquire great material possessions, these in themselves cannot help us to affect the sun or the cosmos for the good of the universe. That would not carry out the Will of God. Indeed, that would tend to serve our own human needs more than spiritual needs. Large buildings, in imitation of that which God has already created for us in nature, are superfluous. God, speaking through the prophets, has told us that altars made by human hands, like churches, are rejected by God.

“‘True religion and true worship are not a matter of faith, belief, sacrifice, or living a dogmatic set of laws, but living The Way revealed by God as a new spiritual people. The new spiritual personality is created or generated by God’s Presence and the force and the Light of the sun. The Light, being God’s Truth, Righteousness, Image and Word, represents a new condition in the universe which we are instructed how to use for our own spiritual evolution back to the Godhead.

“‘As I have said many times before, just as an embryo is conceived by the act of man and woman, the new spiritual person is conceived by the joining of a person with the Image and the Word of God. Thus God creates that person anew. Faith or belief systems, or adherence to a church idea created by the mind of Man cannot create new life, physically or spiritually. All living things generate their own kind, offspring similar to themselves.

“‘It is a law of nature that each species reproduce itself. Spiritual people are reproduced by God in the sun in accordance with The Teachings. As a new species of spiritual persons, they are restricted to The System itself – they are a product of that System. Generation of a Light body is something that is unique to this Teaching, this Way, this System that we have repossessed in this Church. This is very difficult for people to understand.

“‘Man has inherited a spirit. This spirit has a dual aspect. It has the capacity to come under the influence of the Powers of Darkness which make it grossly materialistic and plunges it deeper into error and eventual dissipation into chaos. It also has the capacity to come under the influence of the Powers of Light. When God’s Word has incarnated within Man’s spirit, a Soul is born to that person. The person then becomes spiritual with new faculties of perception which puts that person into a new dimension of reality. This is The Way that Jesus was attempting to teach members of the early Church, and it explains why they were not afraid of death. Jamil has revealed this same Way to us in modern times and he has shown us the means by which it is achieved.

“‘In the Catholic or Protestant churches in the world there is no spiritual rebirth of the kind spoken of by Jesus in the first Church, and now restored in the new Church, because the former are not teaching the means or the methods by which spiritual life can be recreated. The people who believe in the church are good people; they express themselves emotionally, intellectually, and have an appreciation of God. But they do not recreate or generate a Light body nor come into possession of a Soul as taught by Jesus. This, we know is fundamental.

“‘Ministers of this Church guard the secret means of obtaining this new birth. And, by secret, we mean sacred. This new birth is not attainable outside of The Community. Many people find fault with that fact. They say that this rebirth should be possible to anyone who wishes it, even outside of this Community. It is important for you to understand the concept that each species reproduces itself.

“‘If you look at the sun and other people do not, if you follow The System and other people do not, if you look upon the Image of God in the sun and other people do not, if you follow The Way and abide by the codes and the ethics and exemplify the Light, then you will respond to that System. Those people outside of The System cannot be expected to respond to it because it is beyond their power to do so. Some people find this very difficult to understand.

“‘The ministers or the persons within this System participate in a divine Marriage to God. And the Teachers of this Church officiate and oversee this marriage by teaching others how to apply The System and The Way within The Community. Some people may reason that it is not necessary to have Teachers, Overseers or order in The Community. They may reason that it is possible to obtain positive results by looking at the sun through disorder, by living any way they choose and still obtain a desired effect. That is not possible.

“‘The divine State is reserved for those people who participate within the mystery; it is not for those outside of it. Let us review what Jamil tells us in the Twenty-First Saying: “The destiny of the whole world shall be determined by ministers ordained to The Teaching of the New State. Each minister shall pledge to serve the New Nation beyond any human allegiance of family, society or nation, as an act of love of God.” The profundity of these words only has meaning and far-reaching significance when understood properly. The cosmos is not to be denied.’”

Human Nature

 

 

“Pleasure and distress, desire and fear, and what follows from them, were not originally created as elements of human nature, for in that case they would form part of the definition of that nature. I follow in this matter St. Gregory of Nyssa, who states that these things were introduced as a result of our fall from perfection, being infiltrated into that part of our nature least endowed with intelligence. Through them the blessed and Divine Image in man was at the time of our transgression immediately replaced by a clear and obvious likeness to animals. Once the true dignity of the intelligence had been obscured, it was inevitable and just that human nature should be chastised by those witless elements which it had introduced into itself. In this way God in His providence wisely made man conscious of the nobility of his intellect.” ~The Philokalia

 

Elements of Human Nature

The Philokalia says that fear, pleasure, desire and distress were not originally part of human nature. This, of course, refers to material pleasures and desires, not spiritual ones. Material pleasures, desires, and fears were not part of our nature when we were spirits only. It is only when the Great Fall into matter happened that we developed such emotions and thoughts. The author of this section of the Philokalia (the book has many authors) is correct in relating these thoughts and emotions to those of animals. It is our animal self that has those thoughts and emotions. We must learn to overcome this weakness by emphasizing the spiritual and not giving in to readily to that animal thinking.

Least Endowed with Intelligence

In the quote from “The Philokalia”, this sentence makes sense only if you replace the word “intelligence” with “consciousness”. Perhaps the word was used differently when the quote was written, but today, especially in Cosolargy, we equate intelligence to the physical body and mind while consciousness is a more universal and spiritual kind of thinking. So it would be better to say that this lower part of nature is least endowed with spiritual consciousness.

True Dignity Obscured

The part of our “true dignity” that is obscured is the spirit and the spiritual consciousness, not the intellect. The intellect is in fact doing much of the obscuring rather than itself being obscured. We can also blame the materialistic societies we live in for teaching us from an early age to emphasize the physical and mental and ignore the spiritual, or at least push it to the background. But if humanity is to be saved, we must reverse that thinking. We must put the spiritual before the physical, God before Man, and let the awakened Soul rule the intellect (or ego), not the other way around. It is not that the physical is evil, but that it is limited and doomed to end, while the spiritual is permanent. The problem, however, is that most people don’t want to bother awakening their spiritual faculties, or don’t think it is necessary. As a result, the spiritual self stays dormant and can’t take control.

Human Nature Chastised

Part of what the quote means when it says that the human nature is “chastised” is that there are consequences for doing the stupid things our mind tells us to do, often in the form of Karma. What we give out is what is sent back to us. If we are indifferent to the needs of others, they will be indifferent to us. If we are greedy, Nature will be greedy with us. If we are killers, we are doomed to die.

Another way that our “human nature” (spiritual nature) is chastised, is that even when our spiritual faculties are dormant, they somehow “whisper” to us when we do things against that true nature. Most of us can feel these pings of guilt we call a conscious. Some people have unfortunately become so materialistic that those spiritual pings either don’t happen, or are not noticed. Such people never feel there is anything wrong with anything they do. Such people are unlikely to ever be convinced to awaken and develop their spiritual Self. For everyone else, don’t wait for those nudges from your conscious, start the process of awakening and developing your spiritual faculties now.

August 1st, 2021: Confirmation of God’s Divine Law

 

 

Pannuches Meal Rite
The 139th Pannuches Meal Rite was held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Child. Jubilee Sunrise Divine Service was held in Sanctuary the following morning.

The Jubilee Sunday is a day of fasting. The elderly are exempt from fasting on that day if they choose.

 

Active Principle of Divine Law Observed (August 1)
On the morning of Saturday, August 1, 2020, in recognition of the thirty-fifth observance of the Manifestation of the New Light of God, which appeared over the sun on this date thirty-four years before to confirm the Active Principle of Divine Law, The Right Reverend Gene Savoy Jr. officiated a special sunrise Divine Service at the Cathedral Church of the Americas with concelebrant Reverend Canon Robert Petrovich and assisted by canons Peter Fousat and Ted Staver and the Reverend Mother Rebecca Willis.

God’s Confirmation of the Active Principles of Divine Law first occurred on August 1, 1982. That event is recorded in Second Advent Scripture in The Book of God’s Revelation with commentary relating the event to the revelation received by the Church on April 18th, Easter in the Second Advent Calendar, and the further revelations received on June 6th, the Day of Pentecost.

Among the Revelations received on June 6th, 1982, the Church received instruction on the New Act of God, God’s conception of the Newly Created Light, a New Light that renovates the whole of creation. The Church also received instruction on the Four Newly Created Intermediary Lights that manifest through this conception.

Scripture tells us that through the manifestation of these Four Intermediary Lights, God has fixed the Four Newly Created Tables of the Law to be taught to the Ordained in the Holy Institutions of Learning; and, so that the unwritten Code of the Law may be codified on earth for the emancipation of the human race, God has decreed Twelve newly created Active Principles of Divine Law of Hid New Covenant, which are subordinate to the Lights of God and to the Tables of the Law, yet are instruments of the Divine Plan for human redemption.

With the revelation given on June 6th, God decreed these Twelve Active Principles to be in force upon confirmation. And on the first day of August in 1982, “The New Light of God appeared over the face of the sun, confirming the Active Principles of Divine Law.” The event of confirmation that on this date is the purpose of the special commemoration each year.

The final paragraph of The Book of God’s Revelation describes that event:

And on the first day of August, it being the eighth Sunday following the giving of the Revelation at Pentecost on the sixth day of June, the New Light of God appeared over the face of the sun, confirming the Active Principle of Divine Law. And the whole congregation, gathered at sunrise, saw and felt the gift of the Spirit manifest out of the sun.

The Church has observed this date since 1982 in a variety of liturgical forms. At the Divine Service performed on August 1, 1987, a new composition titled “The New Light of Divine Law” was introduced to the liturgical music usually accompanying Divine Service. The piece commemorates the confirmation of the Active Principle of Divine Law.

The religious tradition and astronomical calendric attached to this date are significant. First Dispensation churches know August 1 as Lammas Day or the Day of the Loaf Mass. The date was celebrated by Christians in England, where the first bread of the harvest was taken to mass for blessing. The Christian feast has even earlier roots in the Celtic Lugnasaid, which hailed the beginning of the wheat harvest.

August 1 marks the beginning of the calendric period known as the “dog days.” The period is named for the Dog Star, Sirius. The span of time between late July and mid-August is an astronomical period when Sirius rises each morning with the sun. For the ancient Egyptians, August 1 was a calendric marking for the rising of the Nile and was celebrated by an important religious feast. This date also held significance for other ancient solar cultures.

The Sacred Calendar of the Second Advent Church also holds August 1 as a significant date. When counting from February 2, Second Advent New Year’s Day, the semiannual cycle, or 180-degree cycle of the earth around the sun, falls on August 1.

The Twentieth and Twenty-first Sayings (Part 4)

“‘In the old Church, a life of chastity and celibacy is considered a sacrifice. In this New Church, by devoting ourselves to The Way, we make a gift to God.

“‘A life of dedication, overseeing The Community, reflecting to the sun, invoking God to shine forth to prevent the material sun from negating requires that an individual live The Way and have access to power that enables one’s thoughts to be measured in the sun. If you are powerless, you cannot affect the sun.

“‘Jesus and the Essenes emphasized the gift of spiritual love over sacrifice. Jesus made the ultimate gift by his crucifixion to show that the spirit was supreme. His followers, by the thousands, also gave their lives for the same reason. Modern Christians forget that this gift to God made by these people is still having an effect in the sun. And they were able to bring this effect about by emphasizing spiritual values and their love of God.

“‘Let us be realistic. The modern-day Church has become materialistic. The value of churches is measured in terms of material nature – members, wealth, power, prestige, influence in the secular affairs of Man, the number of churches or temples, or the number of clergy. None of these things have value as a spiritual force, only as a human and materialistic force. Thus the churches of today, and I am speaking specifically about the Christian churches, are more materialistic than spiritual.

“‘The concept of God in the modern Church is emotional. Materiality is a blessing. The churches have become more realistic over the centuries, knowing full well that society and heads of state are impressed with their numbers and their material wealth. They have long since ceased to work in accordance with God’s Divine Plan and are more anxious to solve human or emotional needs. They are incapable of affecting the ruling sun or the cosmos for the overall good of humankind.

“‘We can see why the New Ministers of The Community are obliged to maintain their independence from the Church of the Old Dispensation and take the necessary oaths and vows of Overseeing The Community to transform the world by means of the Sun – the spiritual Sun. This Ministry requires a new dedication. And it is only a new ministry, different from the existing ministry, that can change the world. There is no other way to transform the world because humankind, as we know, is spiritually ill; it has become selfish, materialistic, and worldly.

“‘Devotion to God is the only way to immortality; if a person is worldly then that person dies with the death of the body, for the spiritual Soul has not been created. People in the sun adhering to The System and to The Way become transfigured, according to The Teachings. Those who absorb the energy from the sun and look upon the Image of God, which is eternal Light and Truth, are made a new species. To understand God and to know God, future humankind must `burn away’ the material body and replace it with a Light body nurtured by the Breath of God from the Sun.

“‘The Child states, very simply, that if you look upon the image of the sun and allow the Word and the Image of God to manifest within you, and if you live The Way, a new person will come forth. And this person has an effect upon the sun and can alter the world in which we live. This is the whole concept.’”

Confirmation of the Active Principles of Divine Law

On this auspicious day in our Sacred Calendar – August 1st – it is my distinct pleasure to finally invite you formally to The Community’s 2022 Convocation. Of course, we hosted a successful virtual conference earlier this Summer, but we have not had the opportunity to assemble collectively in person with our non-resident members since 2019.

Based on the recent Convocation survey, which was almost evenly split between those preferring June and September as months to hold our Convocation, we have decided to do something special. We will host the Community Convocation from Friday, June 3rd to Tuesday, June 7th, 2022 and host an additional Academy Seminar from Wednesday, September 7th through Sunday, September 11th, 2022.

This idea is not entirely new. We have been discussing having two events annually for quite some time. In fact, when I was growing up in the 1970s, we used to have four seminars a year. But, because we have so much material to share (advanced, intermediate, and fundamental), it’s hard to fit all of this information into five days.

The June Convocation will be geared towards those persons who are ordained within the Jamilian Order and will include advanced concepts and techniques relating to Sacred College studies, research, and practice, including the purpose of ceremony, liturgy, the use of chanting, tones, and the like.

The September Seminar will provide in-person training for Academy Consociates in color and sacred imagery, the importance and use of the Sacred Thread and gemstones, the mechanics of nine fundamental healing techniques, including the use of crystals and expansions on the basic archetypal imaging of our Solar Cross that is introduced in the twelfth volume of The Cosolargy Papers.

The importance of 2022 in our calendar cannot be overstated. It is the 60th anniversary of the birth of the Sun of Righteousness and also marks an important 20-year cycle – the third since 1962. We will be emphasizing during the June gathering how we have revived the ancient Essene Covenant of Renewal which always took place during the Feast of Weeks and later around Pentecost which, in our Community, is a fixed day according to the solar calendar.

You will be hearing soon from our Convocation Coordinator, the Reverend Francine Petrovich, soon with further details. Of course, our resident Community will be welcoming you to both events, and you are always welcome to stay longer than the actual scheduled conference dates. But, please mark the dates in your calendar, and always feel free to contact someone here at the Center if you have any questions. We are very much looking forward to seeing you next year, if not sooner.

Something From Nothing in Alchemy

 

 

“Sometimes it may happen that a speculative artist may, by his own eccentricity, think out for himself some new method in Alchemy, be the consequences anything or nothing. He need do nought in order to reduce something into nothing, and again bring back something out of nothing. Yet this proverb of the incredulous is not wholly false. Destruction perfects that which is good; for the good cannot appear on account of that which conceals it. The good is least good whilst it is thus concealed. The concealment must be removed that so the good may be able to freely appear of its own brightness. For example, the mountain, the sand, the earth, or the stone in which a metal has grown is such a concealment. Each one of the visible metals is a concealment of the other six metals.” ~Paracelsus

 

New Method in Alchemy

While this may be about the general concept of alchemy as being used to convert one physical substance into another such as making gold from lead, it is more likely that Paracelsus is talking about the true alchemy of converting the lower level consciousness of materialistic humans into the higher levels of spiritual or mystical consciousness.

 

Something Out of Nothing

As for the idea of turning something into noting, and then back again, we all know that is impossible. First, you cannot turn something into nothing. You can change one kind of matter into another. You can change matter into energy. You cannot change something into nothing, accept in appearance only.

Likewise, you cannot create something from nothing. You might create something visible from something invisible or change energy into matter, but that isn’t really making something from nothing.

 

Destruction Perfects

Here I must disagree with Paracelsus. He gives the example of a metal hidden in a rock or a mountain and implies that the rock or mountain must be destroyed to get the metal. We all know metal can be removed from a mountain without destroying it. But his statement that the “concealment must be removed that so the good may be able to freely appear of its own brightness,” tells us that he is not talking about metals but about the spiritual hidden by the physical. He is saying, therefore, that the physical body must be destroyed in order for the spirit to be revealed, and that is simply not true. Through spiritual growth techniques though in schools such as Cosolargy, one can strengthen the spirit to the point where its light shines while the body remains. More importantly, it is possible for the spiritually awakened soul to take control of the ego and stop the ego from running things. It isn’t that the ego is evil and needs to be destroyed, but it is limited to knowledge of the physical world, so must be kept in check by the superior knowledge of the awakened soul.

 

Each Metal Shields

I’m not sure what Paracelsus is trying to say when he claims that each of the “visible metals is a concealment of the other six.” I could have a ring made of silver and gold, but the one metal doesn’t conceal the other unless it completely covers it such as having the gold plated over the silver. If I placed a bar of lead next to one of gold, neither of them would become invisible. Maybe what he is trying to say is that the greater metal would shine above the lesser, and be noticed more. Converting that into its spiritual equivalent, he is saying that a highly developed spiritual person outshines a lesser.

The Twentieth and Twenty-first Sayings (Part 3)

And The Man continued instructing the Companions of The Way.

“‘It is the obligation of the New Ministry to preserve The Teachings and to instruct the whole world, including secular religions, in them. Man’s religions serve Man and his social order, as you all know, but they fail to inspire humankind because, being ignorant of The Teachings, they are not in agreement with Cosmic Law which dictates that God must be active in the affairs of Man and must be available to spiritual people. Therefore, these religions, being ignorant of this new condition, are not representative of the Religion of God and must be viewed as the religions of Man and his human society.

“‘Cosmic Law – the Divine Law of God – is to be served more than the law of Man. God does not respond to Man’s laws; on the contrary, Man responds to God’s Laws. So the Divine Law, being established first in Heaven and in the Light of the Sun, is to be established on earth according to Divine Order.

“‘A living theocracy is to come into being to serve God so that His Will may be established upon the earth and in the heart and the soul of Man.

“‘If Man is to understand and experience God, he must break away from Man’s laws that were created to serve Man and not God. That does not mean that Man should live in a state of anarchy or that we care to do away with law. On the contrary, all spiritual people must be conscious of the good of law and order in the State, but people must not serve civil law first and relegate spiritual Law to a secondary role.

“‘God lives today. The priests of the Roman Church, as well as the ministers of the Protestant churches, emphasize that God lived in the past and is no longer active today in the laws of the nations. In reality, God is dead as far as the affairs of Man are concerned – God is relegated to ancient history. Though He is no longer available to heads of state, God once walked and spoke with those in power. Something went awry in the course of history.

“‘How are we to gather sufficient numbers to establish the Divine State, or Nation, spoken of by Jamil? How are we to make this Nation effective as a spiritual force in the face of large, heavily populated nations with their economic, political, military and material power? We are told by Jamil that any alteration of the world must begin with the individual. And the individual can affect the world when that individual is joined with others in Community. Though spiritual evolvement begins with the individual, one’s influence is limited until such time as one joins in Community and abides by the laws of that Community. The effect of individuals collected in Community is measured in the sun – the material sun – of our universe. And the world reacts to that effect – the sun’s power is more powerful on the earth than the natural forces of the earth itself. We thus comprehend the power that is in the hands of the adept.

“‘In The Community, the individual who becomes enlightened must be prepared to stimulate the world. And the individual must make a pledge to God in order to achieve this stimulation. This can only be done if the individual exemplifies the Light by living what we call The Way. By exemplifying the life of Jamil, one causes a reaction in the sun. Therefore, all things in a person’s human life – fame, power, material benefits, pleasures, family, the State – must play a secondary role in order that one may live the spiritual or Holy Way.

“‘Whatever one must relinquish in order to achieve the State of Light should not be considered as a sacrifice, but as a gift to God. A sacrifice creates the opposite result of what is desired. A gift to God is given as an act of love and always achieves the desired result.

“‘We must emphasize the value of spiritual Love more than any kind of sacrifice, or the idea of sacrifice. The individual is asked to love God and not make sacrifices. Only the pure spirit of a reborn soul is acceptable to God – any other gift has no meaning. A pure spirit and reborn soul are the products of a lifetime of dedication, and the greatest gift that can be made by any human.’”
