“Upon hearing these words, the Companion who had spoken first said, ‘By bringing the ancient teachings up to date, that is, by using current terminology to present much of the mystical aspect of the spiritual life as carried forth from the old masters to the present time, we are given a living and dynamic teaching for our age. It is a repetition of the ancient teachings, and yet it is a renewal of the old and universal Truth and the desire for union with the Sun of Righteousness and the living of The Way.’
“The Teacher replied, ‘It is important for us to remember that whether Jesus was the prophesied Messiah of suffering in the Book of Isaiah or whether he was a world Messiah is not as important as the message he had to give to the world. And that message was an echo of that which had come before. Had it not been so, he would not have promised a return. Christians seem to be ignorant of this. They believe that before Jesus there was no immortality of the Soul which, of course, is not true. They also believe that unless a person uses Jesus as an intermediary, there is no immortality of Soul, which cannot be true either.
“‘If we put Jesus in the proper historical context, we see that he was trying to reveal knowledge to the world and the means by which humankind could gain access to God. God is the Father of All. God is the Head of His Church. And The Church must be the Body of the Ordained, the Body of the Immortals, whose spirits have been redeemed and form the living Body of God which is His Church. God is the Head, the Image, the High Priest, and The Word – the only Vicar. And I think Jesus would insist upon that if he were alive today.
“‘It is only through The Image and The Word of God that man and woman ascend. And if we see that this Image and Word is the true mediator between Man and God, and that knowledge of God can only come by and through God, not from any person, then we see that True Religion is universal, is representative of The Way – it has always existed, and even if it is lost, it continually returns and is restored to the world. We happen to be in the Final Age, an age of transition in the world. Therefore, knowledge of this religion is extremely important to us today.
“‘The Second Advent Church brings knowledge of olden things but in a new context inasmuch as God has revealed Himself in the Sun of Righteousness in a very meaningful and powerful manner. Humanity must needs take advantage of this manifestation in this New Church.’”
Now, speaking of the Second Advent, the Sun of Righteousness, and the New Church, these are some of the important topics we will be discussing at this year’s Community Convocation and Cosolargy Seminar in September as we celebrate 60 years since the dawn of the New Age. You can expect to be hearing from us soon to assure your attendance and participation at this very special time in the history of our Community. The Fat Beast of Materialism
“How have all the prophets written of thee, and yet thou know not thyself, thou rides so upon the fat pampered beast, and that riding pleases thee so well, that thou wilt rather go to the Devil and into the abyss of Hell rather than thou wilt light off thy beast? What shall become of thee then, thou blind Babel? Do but light off from the great ugly beast, which is the might, pomp, state, and pride. Behold! Thy bridegroom comes, and reaches forth his hand to thee and would lead thee out of Babel.
“Did not he walk on foot upon Earth? He did not ride in that manner. He had nothing wheron to lay his head. What kingdom do you build for him? Where is the place of his rest? Does he not rest in thy arms? Wherefore does thou not embrace him? Is he too poor in this world? Yet he is rich in heaven. Who will thou send to him to be reconciled? The Mother of Jesus? O no, that will not avail; he does not stand behind thee and absolve thy wickedness, for thy inclination of falsehood. He knows not the letters which thou sends to him by the saints, who are in the still rest before him in the heavenly element.” ~Jacob Boehme
Riding the Fat Beast
The fat and ugly beast that so many “ride” today is the beast of materialism. It may not be a beast in the conventional sense, but it is probably the most dangerous beast that exists. It is dangerous because it turns us away from the spiritual. Many think that they can throw reins on this beast and control it, but this beast is not so easily controlled. It may, for a time, seem as if it is under your control, but in actuality, it is leading you further and further away from the eternal life of Spirit, and closer and closer to the death and destruction of the lower realm of matter.
At times, this beast may have been skinny to the point of being emaciated, but in today’s world, it is a fat beast indeed. Fat because it is fed by so many foolish people who make heroes of the greedy, leaders of the stingy, saints of the self-involved. The beast is leading us to destruction, but it is not too late to jump off the beast and go the other way. It is a difficult thing to do, but the reward of eternal life is worth it.
Might, Pomp, State, and Pride
The beast of materialist is a many-headed beast, and Boehm has listed the names of several of its heads. One is Might, the desire to have power and to rule over others. Another is Pomp, a desire to be a celebrity of sorts, a desire to be admired. One needs to realize that the admiration of stupid people and misled people is of no real value at all. As for “state,” there are many meanings for that word. I believe that Boehme means it in the sense of one’s personal state within society, in other words, rank. Desiring to rank highly in social circles is riding the beast when the society is one of materialism. Pride is another of the heads of the beast. We have to have humility and realize that even in the realm of materialism, no one accomplishes much of anything without the help of others who may have done their part long before you were even born, yet they contributed. The spiritual people understand that any real spiritual accomplishments come with the aid of God as well.
Boehm left greed off of his list. Perhaps it wasn’t as big a problem in his time as it is now. Today we not only permit great greed to flourish, but we also encourage it. This is definitely feeding the beast of materialism making it ever more powerful and hard to resist. Fortunately, we now have the Light of the Sun of Righteousness shining down on us to give us more strength to resist the beast.
The Bridegroom Comes
This talk of a bridegroom confuses many. It is an allegorical reference used in the Bible and other spiritual literature. The bridegroom is Christ, and the Christ spirit comes to us to free us from materialism, which Boehm calls “Babel”. Here is the catch. We have been given a limited kind of free will and therefore the Christ Force is never pushed upon those who refuse it, deny it, or simply are not ready for it. We must, like a good bride, welcome the Bridegroom into our arms. We do that by turning from materialism, jumping off the back of the Beast of Materials, and working on the development of our immortal Soul. Only those who are headed down that road will meet Christ, the Bridegroom on the path, and in due time, achieve their own Christ Consciousness.

Reverend Nola Slevin Passes into the Light

The Reverend Nola Slevin (Missouri, October 21, 1925 – Reno, Nevada, April 3, 2022 ), a resident member of the Community in Reno, passed away this week at the age of 96. A private memorial service will be held by her family.
Nola received her initial religious training through the Church of Religious Science. She has been a Consociate of the Community since June 1988 and, after completing the Academy and Sacred College Programs, received Third-Degree Ordination in October 2007. Nola was very close to her granddaughter Megan Sherrel, whom she had baptized and confirmed in the Community in the 1990s. She will be missed.

HEAD OVERSEER’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

By now, you have been informed of the 2022 Community Convocation and Seminar to be held from Wednesday, September 7th through Monday, September 12th. The first two days (Wednesday and Thursday) will focus exclusively on Color and Sacred Imagery, as will the morning of Friday the 9th. The Color and Sacred Imagery Seminar is required for all Consociates in The Academy. However, it is open to anyone else who would like to listen to the material again. Unlike previous presentations of this seminar in the past, it will be given live by me.
Beginning the afternoon of Friday, September 9th, the General Convocation will begin and will continue through the afternoon of Monday, September 12th. You will receive additional agenda details, as well as lodging information, in the coming days.
I would like to emphasize that both the Color and Sacred Imagery Seminar and the General Convocation are open to all Community members, and I again encourage your participation.
And with that, let us continue with our review of the Twenty-second Saying of Jamil.
The Twenty-second Saying (Part 9)
“And the disciple amplified her question, saying, ‘When spirit meets matter – marries matter, so to speak – I wondered if that could be related, for example, to the image of the cross, especially to an Image in the Cross of Cosolargy?’
“And The Man answered, ‘The cross has always represented the sun because the sun often manifests a cross and the sun’s rays can manifest the spectrum or a rainbow. And those colors are the pure colors from light. Each color represents a particular frequency and each frequency radiates a particular kind of information. Thus, an individual of God – reborn – can receive knowledge and information from the spectrum of color in a rainbow through the force centers.
“‘The force centers are real. We know there are eight force centers of the archetypal Man or Woman and four force centers of the spiritual Man or Woman. The eight force centers correspond to the spectrum of light in a rainbow, just as the four upper force centers correspond to the Light in the Sun of Righteousness. So, when a person looks at a rainbow, that rainbow is really an image of oneself because the light of the sun creates that image of the rainbow and the colors are immediately linked to the force centers of the individual and information is received on each particular center beneath the level of the consciousness of the mind.
“‘The information has nothing to do with any practical application of knowledge that one would read by looking at a book with one’s eyes. This is knowledge that cannot be written. It is knowledge that comes from God. It comes from the sun. It comes from sources outside of this world. It is beyond physical practicality. It is something immortal. It is something Divine. It is something akin to the cosmos, which has always been represented by a cross – something away from this world.
“‘Man is representative not only of the planet. He is representative not only of a material body. A person has a pre-existent nature. That nature is symbolized by the rainbow, by the cross, by the sun, by the doors or the gateways to other worlds. And once individuals become aware of that, they are able to ascend from this planet into these other dimensional levels and have understanding and a Divine Knowledge of what they were before.
“‘When they understand who they were, what they are, and where they are going, they tend to lose interest in this world, yet they want to teach and instruct humankind. And that is what is meant by all the parables and the allegories of scripture. But unless one has a teacher, unless these things are explained, unless one becomes evolved and developed, unless one becomes reborn, these things are not understood and all the words and all the teachings are meaningless. Rebirth of spirit into a Soul goes beyond the laws of physics into a higher series of laws, a higher level of awareness. Once a person has access to that level, he or she becomes more than just a human person. One ascends back to one’s roots, origins, and the source of one’s being.
“‘That is what Jesus was trying to teach, and what the early Church was trying to teach, but the world always manages to take over and pollute and corrupt and adulterate great teachings for earthly power. But The Word always continues to manifest. And the knowledge that people can have today in this Church is the same knowledge and the same inspiration that was possessed by Jesus and the disciples of the original Church, for God has now come a second time into the world.
“‘This is not just another age during which the Sun of Righteousness has manifested. It is an age in which God is actually manifesting His Image and His Word in greater power than ever before – in the Final Age of the world. Therefore, this Church is the Second Advent Church which is destined to instruct the whole human family in the concepts of ancient religions.
“‘This is a tremendous task and, in a way, it means picking up our cross and following after Jesus. Jesus failed in his mission, in a manner of speaking, but he has left us an inheritance. And because of him, we are empowered in this Church through Jamil to carry on the work. Every great teacher always leaves something behind for further generations to pick up from. As Jesus failed, we each will fail because the salvation of the world is not the result of one person’s lifetime. It is something to be achieved in a continuous effort that can only end and be completed when the world is transformed into spirit.’”

On the Deserted Path of Righteousness
“I cannot blame You, my God, if You have turned your back on men, for they have deserted the path of righteousness shown them by the men of olden times. Truth is with us no more, and men choose the pleasant paths of ignorance in preference to the more austere and profitable one. The pure worship which once filled this land and guided its people has fallen prey to greedy and ambitious men. … Its centerpiece is no longer the dark chamber of austerity where great spirits sought the light, but the pomp of elaborate but empty ceremonial and futile sacrifice. It is a thing of well-organized, but barren ritual, the perverted tool of unscrupulous priests. The temples have become refuges for those who seek to avoid the trials of life. How can such as they ever be true servants of God?
“I do not erase the words I have inscribed with heavy heart and a spirit overburdened with grief and perplexity, for through the enveloping mists of sorrow, I perceive a Light dimly. This is my message to those who follow and who may be tossed on the turbulent waters of despondency and despair, my pitiful contribution to the great total of inherited wisdom: If you seek God and find Him not, then the blame lies with men and not with God. I know for in declaring my trust by setting forth these things, my heart has suddenly been filled with an indescribable Light of Spiritual Illumination, and now I know things beyond any hint of doubt, I too am awakened” ~The Kolbrin Bible (Man:18:6-7)
The Deserted Path
The speaker says he cannot blame God for turning His back on those who have turned away from the path of righteousness. Actually, God doesn’t turn His back on us. It is we who turn our backs on God. We do this either by deserting the whole idea of God, or by making false gods in our own image rather than learning of the true God. We do it by listening to preachers who teach what they learned from other preachers who also taught what they learned for other preachers, etc. None of them have ever had a real revelation or a real vision, none have actually spoken to God, or even an Angel. Then there are other ministers who know that what they are preaching is false, but it is what the congregation wants to hear and what they will pay to hear, so it is what they preach. The path of truth is followed by few these days.
Austere and Profitable Path
Many choose the path of ignorance and convenience over what the author of the quote calls the “austere and profitable” path. Austere and profitable? That seems like an odd combination, but it really isn’t. It only seems like an odd combination because we think of profitable in terms of money only, while the austere path of spiritual growth is one that is profitable in another way: it leads to eternal life, which is far more valuable than money. There are foolish people who have amassed huge piles of money, who spend fortunes seeking ways to extend their lives by a few years. If they turned to the spiritual path of truth and righteousness, they would extend their lives by an infinite amount, yet few will even try that path.
Light of Spiritual Illumination
The author of the quote says that if you turn to God, you will find your heart filled with the “indescribable Light of Illumination”. This, of course, means spiritual Illumination, not any material kind of light. He adds that when you have that Illumination, you know beyond any doubt what is true and what is real, and you are then “Awakened.” That is what it means to truly be spiritually awakened. Simply recognizing that there is more to life than material pursuits is the first step on the path to Awakening, but it isn’t the whole thing.
