“Astronomers watch a supermassive black hole X-ray flare ignite an ultra-fast galactic wind”

A supermassive black hole in the spiral galaxy NGC 3783 just delivered an X-ray surprise that astronomers have never watched unfold so quickly. Using the European Space Agency’s XMM-Newton and the JAXA-led XRISM mission, researchers saw a bright flare rise and fade, and then saw a burst of ultra-fast wind appear within about a day, racing outward at roughly 60,000 kilometers per second, near one-fifth the speed of light.

“Blue-white Rigel is Orion’s brightest star”

Rigel is one of several brilliant stars that grace our night sky this time of the year. It’s also the brightest star in one of the most beloved of constellations, Orion the Hunter. Rigel appears blue-white to the eye. It’s a stunning contrast to red Betelgeuse, Orion’s second-brightest star. Classified as a blue supergiant, Rigel is in the latter stages of its stellar lifetime and will someday explode as a supernova. Hidden in Rigel’s brilliance are at least three other fainter companion stars that can only be detected using large telescopes.

Few Can Be Trusted In a Land of Darkness

“To Ohsirahes from your servant, Panubis; may The One God grant you long life and contentment. May Nebetnif be your everlasting joy. May strife ever depart before your shadow.

“Your servant writes with difficulty, for his heart has become small within him, and few are those whom he can entrust with tasks of importance. In considering the events occurring in the land, few are the words of assurance that can be written. Things do not get any better; from year to year they get worse.

“The secret writings remain with us, but they are lightly regarded by those who should cherish them. Few still walk in their light, and in all the land the right way of life is avoided. The path of righteousness is spurned; it is beyond the strength of men today. Here, at its heart, the land is

distressed. Better by far to dwell at the edge of the pool, where none but the strongest ripples reach, and they as no more than a slight disturbance.

“Men cry aloud with sorrowful hearts, for their lives are turned over. No longer are their institutions respected, and like wild dogs, man seeks to snatch the sustenance of man. Contentment and trust have departed; peace has gone, and hope is no more. Mornings come and men rise to greet them with anticipation of change, but this passes with the early mists and the sun goes down on despondency and despair. Your servant is heavy-laden with care; he is burdened with sorrow but adjusts his life to the times. Better by far would it be if he were many days journey away.

-The Kolbrin Bible (MAN:30:1-4)

May Strife Depart Before You

This is a great thing to say to anyone. We should not wish for strife or difficulties for anyone, even those who have earned it by their deeds, because if we wish such things on others, we are becoming hateful people ourselves. Instead, we should want that such people have a revelation and awaken to the truth.

Few Can Be Trusted

It is true now, and always has been, that few can be trusted with the truth. Not just basic truths about the world around us, but the Truth about God, and the power that resides in that truth. Those who have learned that Truth are always very careful about who they share it with. We are now living in a time where we see much darkness around us, and it will likely get worse before it gets better, so it is especially important not to give Divine Knowledge to those who would use it for evil.

The Secrets are Lightly Regarded

We see this today, especially in the United States, where being “woke” is considered evil and the government turns against anyone who is considered woke, even though many of those they considered woke are not really awakened in the spiritual sense. It is strange to consider that if these people are opposed to being awake, that means they prefer to be asleep and trapped in a kind of hypnotic trance where they are controlled by evil beings and forces.

Dwell at the Edge of the Pool

This line is allegorical. It means that we should try to dwell as far away from the centers of evil and darkness as possible. When that isn’t possible, we should at least visit such places regularly. Our sanctuary in Reno is well away from heavily populated areas for that reason.

Adjust to the Times

There was a time when holy people were respected and had little to fear from the general public. There have always been evil people around, but not like today. So to some degree, we need to adjust to the times by tolerating things that we shouldn’t accept and taking jobs that are not really good for people. In short, we may need to hide our spiritual nature to avoid persecution by the Dark Ones. But we should also continue to make every effort to bring more Light into the world to push away the darkness.

“Astronomers reveal how the Milky Way’s violent youth forged a calmer spiral giant”

Understanding how the Milky Way formed means looking far beyond the bright spiral you see in the night sky. A new study led by Dr. Vivian Tan, who completed her doctorate at York University under the supervision of Prof. Adam Muzzin, offers the most detailed picture yet of how our galaxy may have grown from a chaotic youth into a stable spiral. Working with an international team, Tan traced the Milky Way’s past by studying hundreds of galaxies that resemble it at earlier stages of cosmic history.

“Saturn-mass rogue planet revealed in unique new observations”

  • Rogue planets, or free-floating planets, are planets that don’t orbit stars. Instead, they drift alone through space.
  • Astronomers have found a new rogue planet, using instruments both on Earth and in space at the same time. This is the first such detection of its kind, and the first confirmed mass of a rogue planet.
  • The planet has a mass similar to Saturn and is located about 9,800 light-years from us, toward the center of our Milky Way galaxy.

“Astronomers detect wake of Betelgeuse’s companion star”

In July 2025, astronomers announced they’d detected a companion star orbiting the red supergiant Betelgeuse. And now, researchers have tracked the influence of this recently discovered star – known as Siwarha – on the gas around Betelgeuse.

By tracking changes in Betelgeuse’s light over nearly 8 years of observations, the scientists have revealed a trail of dense gas left by Siwarha as it plows through Betelgeuse’s vast outer atmosphere.

Annual Children’s Blessing and Breakfast, 2025

After the Sunrise Divine Service on the morning of Sunday, December 28, 2025 — the 4th day of Christmas of the Christmas-Epiphany Sunrise Vigil — the Reno Community gathered at the End Times Parsonage for breakfast and the annual Blessing of the Children.

The Children’s Service was presided over by the Reverend Noriko Roy with the assistance of Acolyte Sophia Savoy. In a short address, Reverend Roy reminded the youngsters that they are the hope of The Community.

Reverend Roy extended to them The Community’s appreciation for their devotion and faith in The Church and commended them into God’s Hands so they may learn and understand further the meaning of charity and truth in the Service of God.

Finally, on behalf of the Head Bishop and the Clergy of the Second Advent Church, she invoked God’s blessings upon all the children and offered a special prayer for them.

Below is a selection of photos from that event.
