The Twenty-third Saying (Part 11)

“‘Therefore, in Community we must decide who we are going to serve: God and the Sun of Righteousness or the earth and the Powers of Darkness and society? We are too small now to be noticed, but the time will come when this Church must affect the world. Humankind is not Evil. Humankind has a spirit and that spirit is played upon by the Powers of Light and Darkness, so there is a struggle between the Powers of Light and Darkness for control of the spirit. We may ask whether the Power of Darkness is equal to the Power of Light. The answer is, only in its ability to affect the spirit of Man. Light gives him Life, and Darkness gives him death. We can ask whether the Evil One is equal in power to God. Of course not. If it were not for God, Evil could not exist. Evil is a parasite, not a creator, even though it created this aborted world we see about us. Its nature is passive, not permanent and creative as God is creative.

“‘Though the world allows itself to be influenced by the Powers of Darkness, now it has an opportunity to be influenced by the Powers of Light through the Sun of Righteousness. This means that the End Times is upon the world, and the great battle between the Powers of Light and the Powers of Darkness is taking place now. As a consequence, the world is going to change and there is no power of Man that can stop it from changing. Man is either going to fall into the trap of the Powers of Darkness and be destroyed by the Power of Light, or he is going serve Light and serve God and restore this world to the state of original Creation. This is a kind of judgement – a judgement day.

“‘The Evil in the world – suffering, pain, death and loss – is not the work of God. If a person asks why God took a child, or wife, or husband, the reply is: God had nothing to do with it. The physical dimension is not a true creation of God. Therefore, God cannot be the Father of this world. According to interpretations of the Bible, God created the world. That means He created death, He created war, He created blood, we have to sacrifice to Him, He is jealous, He is vengeful, He works with the Jews as His chosen people; and, from the New Testament, because Christ is the Son of God, He works and helps Christians. However, after two thousand years, that religion has not brought peace to the world. It has actually helped destroy whole races of people, such as Hawaiians, Peruvians, and Mexicans, to mention a few examples.’”

The James Webb Space telescope has the sharpest perspective on otherwise invisible light in the universe.

The highly anticipated first science images by the world’s premier space observatory aren’t expected until this summer. But recent test images captured by the telescope during its final commissioning phase are providing a glimpse of what’s to come.

“These are the sharpest infrared images ever taken by a space telescope,” said Michael McElwain, Webb observatory project scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, during a news conference Monday.

Webb will be able to peer inside the atmospheres of exoplanets and observe some of the first galaxies created after the universe began by observing them through infrared light, which is invisible to the human eye. The images were taken after the successful alignment of the telescope’s massive golden mirror segments. The test images show the clear, well-focused images that the observatory’s four instruments are capable of capturing.

“When the inward and God-seeing man has attained to his Eternal Image, and in this clearness, through the Son, has entered into the bosom of the Father; then he is enlightened by Divine truth, and he receives anew, every moment, the Eternal Birth, and he goes forth according to the way of the Light, in a Divine contemplation. And here [is where] our highest blessedness consists.

“You should know that the heavenly Father, as a living ground, with all that lives in Him, is actively turned towards His Son, as to His own Eternal Wisdom. That same Wisdom, with all that lives in it, is actively turned back to the Father, that is, towards the very ground from which it came forth. … But where this wonder is understood and tasted without amazement, there the spirit dwells above itself, and is one with the Spirit of God; and tastes and sees without measure, even as God, the riches which are the Spirit itself in the unity of the living ground, where it possesses itself according to the Way of the uncreated essence.” ~John of Ruysbroeck

Man’s Eternal Image

Why would Ruysbroeck say that something happens when “man has attained to his Eternal Image”? He says that because our Eternal Image is our soul, not our physical body. So when the Bible says that we were created in God’s Image, it has two meanings. One is that it is our soul which is in the Image of God, not our body, and two, created in His image is also a way of saying that God creates everything by forming an image of it in His mind. It is the same way we, as God’s children, create. The difference is that when God creates an image of something in His mind, that thing now exists, whereas, when we create, say a statue in our mind, we still have to go throw the process of carving the statue. So when Ruysbroeck writes of one who has “attained his Eternal Image,” he means a person who has awakened their spirit and developed it into a conscious soul.

Divine Truth

One who has fully developed his or her spiritual faculties does know Divine Truth. This is not found by reading any book or listening to any person speak. It comes from oneness with God and oneness with the All. Such people don’t have to guess at what is true and what is false, they know. This is the Knowing that the Gnostics call Gnosis.

Way of Light

Ruysbroeck says that we achieve this Eternal Oneness and Enlightenment by “going forth according to the Way of the Light.” He is correct that this is the way to spiritual awakening, and eventually full enlightenment, but how does one go forth “according to the Way of Light”? Ruysbroeck couldn’t be specific because of restrictions in his time, but today we can say that this Way of Light is to practice Spiritual Sun-gazing with the Spiritual Sun, which requires instruction from a knowledgeable teacher. It also requires one to be fully devoted to God.

Sees Without Measure

Ruysbroeck adds that one who has achieved this level of enlightenment “ tastes and sees without measure, even as God”. This is possible because when we have achieved oneness with God, then naturally we see, hear, and know everything that God does.

The Twenty-third Saying (Part 10)

“‘It is God’s Will to bring about the redemption of humankind. It is part of His Divine Plan to redeem the world. So, if we work in the Church together, we are naturally bound to benefit more through the added benefit of metanoia. However, looking at the sun but not living The Way nullifies or negates the benefit. Looking at the sun, living The Way, working in Community, participating in God’s Will, which is the Divine Plan for the redemption of the whole race and the world – restoring it to Light – gives us greater power because we are able to assimilate more stimuli, if I can use that term. That is the reason for Community. Community also allows us to pass along to future generations our goodness and knowledge. If we fail to pass along what we have learned to future generations, they must begin all over again.

“‘The churches of the First Dispensation are kept in a state of ignorance because they do not have access to God’s Power or Christ’s Power. They do not have access to the Light and the Image of Christ. Consequently, members of those churches cannot be God-like or Christ-like. The imitation of Christ has been transformed into a dogma or a doctrine that, basically, consists of “thou shalt do this, thou shalt do that,” or “thou shalt not do this, thou shalt not do that.” Consequently people are expressing themselves on the level of a manmade religion as opposed to a Godly religion which must be controlled by God in Heaven through the sun, not here on earth.

“‘For example, when scholars retranslate, as they have been doing in recent years, parts of scripture that could give different meaning, the whole concept becomes different. Perhaps something that we have believed to be true for hundreds or thousands of years is not true after all. God cannot err. God’s Word must be accurate, authentic, reliable and unchanging. It cannot be so if it is confined to the world or if it comes within the hands of scholars to change. The Divine Word cannot change because it originates from outside of the world and manifests through the sun and is only available to those people living The Way within this Church. That is a simple and hard teaching, but that is what the words of the Twenty-Third Saying tells us.

“‘We are learning that the world is beginning to change. In other words, if the Sun of Righteousness is real, then it is changing the physical sun. That sun is changing the planet. God’s Image and Word, indirectly, is affecting the whole physical universe. By efforts of working together in Community, the world becomes knowledgeable in living The Way. And, as greater numbers of people begin to live The Way, society – politics, economics, the military – must change as a result. Thus, if an individual or the world wants to be Good, they only need to adhere to Good religion and the world will be Good. But, people do not really want the world to be Good; that is why it is not Good. They do not want the Church of Christ to be Good. They do not want the Goodness of God. They want to change things for their own convenience. The problem in the world today is that the world is an image of the mind of Man not an Image of God.’”

The Egyptians may have the most famous mummies, but they’re not the oldest. The Chinchorro people of Chile’s Atacama Desert were the first to mummify their dead – 7,000 years ago.

In Chile’s Atacama Desert, the driest place on Earth, mummies have been found that pre-date the Egyptians’ by 2,000 years. So while the Egyptians may be the most famous culture to mummify their dead, it turns out they weren’t the first to do so.

“The Chinchorro are the very first people that inhabited the north of Chile and the south of Peru,” said Bernardo Arriaza, a physical anthropologist with the University of Tarapacá. “They are the pioneers of the Atacama Desert.” And, he added, they are also the first known culture in the world to mummify their dead, starting around 5,000 BCE.
